Talent Show
I'm Wes a 1st degree black belt in Shito-Ryu in North Dakota and my school is holding a talent show. Auditions are in a month and 2 of my friends who rank as brown belts in our style want to participate. I would really like some suggestions as to what we could do to really stand out. We dont really want to just be breaking boards/ice the whole time so if anyone has some suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Don't You Dare Lie To Me!!
That's a really tough subject. I haven't had to deal with that but I really like your approach. It shows who is in charge and what the students are expected to do and be able to achieve.

New instructor: Teaching Kids

first competition
Really what I can tell you is to just enjoy it. There are going to be others watching you and an obvious sense of pressure around you but I mean someone can only do so well. My first tournament I only competed in sparring and lost in the first round! Second third and fourth year I was the grand champion in my division so if that's encouraging at all I'm glad I helped Just remember your training. Have fun.

New instructor: Teaching Kids
I'm soon to be an instructor of karate. I was wondering if there were any games out there for kids such as battleship sparring or anything like that Any tips or advice is also very welcome

Martial arts and you: What and the why? Whats your story?
I originally joined because I thought I would eventually be able to shoot a Kamehameha wave or a flying bicycle kick like Liu Kang. Granted these were highly improbable, but I found out that I joined strictly for the intent of wanting to hurt others that bothered me or hurt me. I realized this well into my 3rd rank and wasn't sure of how I wanted to handle this (keep the same thought process or change it). I have struggled with this up until a few ranks away from my black belt. Now I feel that I train for more perserverence and to be able to keep cool in rough situations.

Who Are Your Martial Art Heroes?
Honestly mine would have to be my Sensei Richard and his teacher Shihan and also Master Hayashi
-
why do you all train?
I train for the facts that I am keeping well in shape and it helps me feel that I know how to protect myself and those around me. I also very much enjoy teaching.

Shito Ryu
Thats really amazing. I love the fact that even though we practice different styles some of the names of katas are the same. Im sure even some of the moves are the same

Shito Ryu
@Harkon72 Ahh that's cool! What are some of the katas you perform?

Is it realistic to train for multiple attackers?
I'm only a white belt so what do I know But really, what's wrong with it? My answer is nothing. Whenever I spar, I find it better for my fighting skill to go against 2 maybe even 3 opponents at the same time. I feel like it helps me greatly, so in case you're going to be attacked by several guys, then you'll be glad you trained this way.

@FangPwnsAll7 thanks! It's really nice to have found a site to talk to people who also do martial arts

Average length of your Karate class
My classes normally last a good hour but I usually come to the dojo 1.5 hour to 2 hours early to warm up on the bag a bit. Our class starts off with paying our respects and then we do our warm ups for 15 minutes. I have class only 2 times a week so that's why I normally come early for more exercise (dividing Tuesdays for sparring/breaking/weapons. Some people wish to work on different things this is why there are so many options on Tuesdays. Thursdays we normally work on katas) and that's what we normally do the next 45 minutes. We normally split into groups on Kara nights but the higher ranks are always willing to help the beginner ranks with katas or applications
