What is the Language of your Class?
JGarner890 replied to Harkon72's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Martial Art is Tang Soo Do. We do English then Korean, and have the students repeat the Korean part. -
Any one know a good Tang Soo Do or Korean organization that won't tell you what or how to teach? I feel most every organization does though.

It took me 10years to get my Black Belt, but I also started when I was 5yrs old, then moved to the Adult Class to where there was different techniques. Should take about 3-5yrs to get Black Belt, that's if you attend every class and show improvment.
-
In my Instructors school, we did the test, then the next class we had would be getting promoted. I remember my Black Belt test one day, then about 3weeks to a month later I got promoted. Don't be too hard on yourself, you will get it.

Yeah, I like the M4, but could always get something better. Like the Czechs here carry Glocks around on the COP. On patrol they take Scars.

I remember my first tournament. I got first in forms and sparring. I was very happy and proud of myself, mostly because I didn't have to pay my father back since we had a bet going haha. But just be confident. Do what you do best.

What part of the hand do you prefer to strike with?
JGarner890 replied to Harkon72's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
First two knuckles, but also like knife hands. Just depends on what the target is. -
Welcome! Congrats on your new rank and good luck getting to BB!

Do you teach the Pinans?
JGarner890 replied to BlueWaveKarate's topic in Instructors and School Owners
We do. Believe we call it the Pyung Ahn forms tho. I like them personally. Each one gets harder and harder which is great for as students get to higher ranks. -
I've seen lots of women in the classes I used to attend wear the Tiger Claw brand. Never heard any complaints about them. After they get broken in and aren't as stiff, seems to fit well.

Oh nice! That it is not. Myself and my instructor do not like federations or associations at all. Not a fan of the politics and having people telling me how to run my school.

1.) Lean forward, stomp the caught kick to the ground. If you can, punch to the face (not your face). 2.) Jump and kick to the head with the leg you're standing on.

Came from Tang Soo Do Moo Do Kwan, but we just call it Tang Soo Do.

I just use Microsoft Excel myself. Easy, keeps track of students in alphabetical order. I like it.

Hello everyone. Just saw this topic so figured I write a little about myself. My name is James Garner. I am 22yrs old. Been doing martial arts for almost 18years. Style I do is Tang Soo Do, 2nd Dan. I also have 6yrs of training in Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and some Hapkido. I am currently in the US Army. Right now serving a tour in Afghanistan. This is my second deployment. First one was to Iraq in '10 - '11. I plan on testing for my 3rd Dan after returning. Before enlisting, I was a professional mixed martial artist. Currently retired, clearly haha. After I get out of the Army, I plan on opening up my own school in my hometown in Illinois. I opened up my first school at the age of 16yrs old in a different town. Was very successful until the owners sold the building, I then had to close and I moved on to a different career path of professional fighting. God has lead me here and I plan on reopening and I'm very excited about it. I hope this gave you a little information about myself and I look forward to some of the topics. Thanks!

Hey everyone. I'm looking to reopen my karate school when I'm done with the military. What are some good advertising ideas besides the obvious: newspaper articals and flyers?
-
I joined when I was 5years old in 1995. From there it took me just over 10 years to reach 1st Dan at the age of 16 in 2006. From there it took me another 5years for 2nd Dan. I plan of testing and hopefully passing for 3rd Dan when I return from Afghanistan at the end of the year. It is very true. Color ranks are like the Acnowledgments of a book, and the Dan ranks are the actual chapters.
