  1. I am still recovering from my last knee surgery-16 months ago. Repeat meniscus tears are common ( I have re-torn twice now) as is arthiritis after removal. My advice to all is to take care of your knees now!
  2. It's all physics. And, it is true that some styles have lost the sutlities of this concept but , more often than not, the circles are there just not recognized by the intructors because they were never taught to recognize them. After all you only teach what you were taught-and just like the "gossip game", things get lost in translation if you are not paying attention.
  3. True! I too run a "traditional" program but "modern" ways are not necessarily bad. There is great value in some training methods that are not considered traditional....it all depends on the instructors approach and adherence to traditional elements of the style.
  4. Action whether physical or mental is always the best choice.
  5. Name: Heidi Title: Mom, Mrs., Chief Instructor. No medals, no trophies, just the satisfaction of doing something that I love. Height: 5'4" Weight: 113 lbs Age: 44 Styles: As listed below.
  6. It's not really who you train with but how you train. I am always wary of those who promote only their style rather than martial arts as a whole. This is not to say the loyalty is not important but given our modern society and demographics it is not always possible to train under the same master your whole life. My loyalty extends to all the Masters I have studied under and they are all supportive of that-otherwise I would not be training with them.
  7. I think we all have experienced a few blocks along the way-either physical or mental. Glad you are back on track!!!
  8. My first BB "test" was like any other day...go to class, get told to wear a Black Belt to the next class, go home. The second one was a bit more intense and afterwards everyone wanted to go out to celebrate. I was so tired I drank one margarita and crashed in the car! The school I am currently with has a traditional dinner out after the test...not required but a good way to welcome the new Black Belts into the family.
  9. I tend to agree with bushidoman here. All martial techniques have different applications in different settings-learning when to use what is part of the "game" so-to-speak. Trying to pigeon hole them reduces your effectiveness and limits your capacity to depend yourself.
