  2. Every school is different-even those of the same style. I suggest you ask your instructor how much sparring you will be doing and when students normally start. When I took TSD-many years ago- we started sparring as white belts but contact was limited.

    Senpai?

I would have to say that "senpai" is reserved for the highest ranking student in ones dojo and does not carry with it a permanence such as "sensei" therefore it's use out side the dojo is not necessary except in referring to one's "senpai" in conversation.
  6. Agreed here. We teach the same curriculum to all ages over 9 (which includes serious self-defense). When teaching 8 and under we skip the techniques but not the concepts.
  7. Welcome to KF and welcome back to martial arts!

  9. It is not uncommon for a doctor to use this technique (called carotid massage) to slow a heart that is beating too fast to maintain adequate circulation. It is, however, ineffective is some cases and does have the risk of slowing the heart to much.
  10. Actually, in my system, we do consider them junior green belt, etc. When lining up all those under 16 stand to the left of those over sixteen. This division of the age groups are based on various qualities of maturity.
  11. The benefits of Tai Ji are many and the applications of its movement concepts greatly enhance the practice of any other martial art. If you have an opportunity to study you should do it!
