  1. The "spoonfed" mentality is frustrating these days-it seems that every kid that comes in the door has trouble even taking the initiative to tie his/her own belt....."My mom does it for me" is becoming a frequent response from 8 and 9 year olds! We talk frequently in classes (both kids and adults) about this issue and while you get nods of agreement a majority still have no ambition to put the effort in and still see Black Belt as something to wear rather than something to be.
  2. Thank you Patrick for your hard work and dedication to Karate Forums!!
  3. As a TKD practitioner I agree with you...an image that I am trying to change!
  4. "Yes Ma'am/Sir" helps develop self-discipline and focus....not just in the dojo but at school/work/home too. Push ups should not be use do punish, rather to motivate the students and remind them to work on their self-discipline-the side benefit being strengthening. It has little to do with respect, IMO, that must be earned through your/the instructors actions and words.
  5. Sensei I could not agree with you more!!!!!! I sound like a broken record in class sometimes re-iterating this same point-every technique must follow the same sequence to be balanced and efficient. Technique, technique, technique!! Correct Technique + speed of delivery=POWER!
  6. You never forget your first, but for me it was the third one that I feel is my "home". I no longer train there (due to a move) but my heart and my friends are still there.
