Hmm, I thought resting while sore would let the muscles to regrow bigger & stronger.. I'm sure KickChick will have an answer.

I'm rather sceptical of Matt Furey's stuff based on what I've heard from my training buddies. Doesn't really sound like Matt Furey's diet to me, well, it is, it's basically a low carb diet from what you've described with some slight modifications which probably work for him - and that's the whole point - it may work for him, but who's to say it will work for you? I have had success with extremely low carb diets for losing fat, but as soon as I resume eating a high carbohydrate diet, I pack on twice as much as I lost! KickChick has always said 'everything in moderation' and I tend to agree now - my current way of eating isn't really high or low in everything. By that, I mean I don't cut carbohydrates to drastic levels, I just eliminate ridiculous amounts from my diet, while eating a decent amount of protein, and I allow myself some sweets as well. I try to reduce the amount I eat at dinner time as well, since that is when you are the least active and any carbs not used will be stored as fat. You will find a lot of the information concerning high carb vs. low carb will conflict, and it is up to you to see which works best for you. Studies have shown that what type of diet works best for you is dependent on your blood type. Some people will go to weight watchers (high carb), and lose stacks of weight quickly & easily, whereas other people will go on Atkin's diet and lose weight quickly & easily while other people don't.

Muay thai is absolutely hardcore, thai boxers have an excellent mentality and are very tough physically and mentally due to the conditioning they do. Krav maga is a self defense system taught to the Isralei army, which is meant to teach people of all ages, sizes & fitness levels to fight quickly. It incorporates counters to some of the most common attacks, including knife & gun work. Both are very intensive to train in from what I've heard - I don't have any experience in these arts, only kicknoxing. I'd reccomend some boxing to go with either muay thai or krav maga since there is a greater chance you'll run into someone on the street who has done some boxing. I had a fight with a boxer once, and only won 'cause I kept the distance between me and him with kicks, otherwise if I let him get in close, he would have killed me since his hands were far superior and faster than mine.

Emotion
BonnyBoy replied to will56's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I like to look angry, when I'm not. It can be intimidating to people - you can win a fight by the eyes. However, showing no emotion after you've copped a crushing thigh kick is also very intimidating. -
Conider 5 years in the martial arts by training now and not being able to train later on in your life, or laying off martial arts for 3 years, and being able to train for the rest of your life. I know which one I'd take. When I hyper-extend my elbow, I take the time off until it's healed instead of training for a couple of months in pain only to have it haunt me later.

Yeah, the problem comes as to HOW you get that guy on his back without his buddy kicking you in the back of your head. If you can get that, then by all means it's likely to be effective as you could slam an elbow into his face. But, how are you going to get him down? Take downs on concrete aren't too appealing to me. Anymore than 2 opponents and it's unlikely to work, and I guess you're lucky if you're faced with 2 guys these days.

Forget body building routines unless you intend to take steroids. They're designed by people on steroids for people taking steroids. Stick with the basic compound movemnts, bench press, squat, deadlifts, military press. This works your major muscles, and your minor muscles are worked as stabilisers. Legs are the biggest muscles you have, so what's gonna use more energy and allow you the biggest gains? Biceps curls or heavy squats? Isolation exercises are a waste of time Check out Beyond Brawn at hardgainer.com , still waiting on my order to go through.

every yoused your ma to impress a girl?
BonnyBoy replied to kle1n's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
haha, nice work Kyle-san, maybe I'll show girls my guard and see if that impresses them! Nah, I can't I've used my MA to impress anyone. It's something I generally keep seperate from my friends except for the buddies at the dojo! I've told a couple of people I train in MA, then when I'm asked what belt I am, I tell them I don't grade, I only train to learn how to fight. I guess the only way I would impress girls is like Tombstone through the muscles I've got from MA which are still hiding underneath this fat which I'm in the process of shedding at the moment. -

BonnyBoy replied to jiu-jitsu fighter's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Afaik, it's just BJJ without the gi. Do a search on Google. -
It happens to me too with my feet. Why, I don't kno

Be wary of body building routines & methods, as they are generally designed by people using steroids for people taking steroids. www,hardgainer.com seems to be a better site, IMO, I'm still waiting on my book to arrive.

Are you talking about the amount of protein that's absorbed from certain foods? Eggs is one of the highest, but there is higher still. Can't rememer off the top of my head.
-
You guys have definitely helped me out, thanks! Scales are telling me I'm down from 85kgs to 82kgs, not sure about that, but I've definitely lost some fat.
-
The only problem I see is training after Wednesday on Thursday. Make sure you get plenty of protein so your muscles can rebuild and adequate sleep.

Wow, you guys have given me a ton of info! Thanks very much! Mr Heel Hook, I had no problems with the equations.

Small circle jujitsu by Wally Jay
BonnyBoy replied to ZeRo's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I thought the Gracie book sucked. I don't think I'll be buying anything from them again. -
o.O, I could be in trouble, lack of physical activity and high carb & fat diet while sitting at my computer can't be good. Thanks for the info, KickChick.

I'm aiming to do cardio 3x a week, which is just running before breakfest at this stage. Two days ago I managed to run for just over 17 minutes, and today I managed just over 12 minutes, due to my legs not fully recovered from the first cardio session and the heat (I get up at around 11am when it's already hot ). I'm gonna do another 10min session tommorrow, then a 20 min session (hopefully) on Sunday. Could you give me the formulas that you used to calculate them figures please? Does the IBW take into account my frame zize and muscle? I've got broad shoulders and some muscle underneath this fat that I'd like to show. =) Many thanks again!

I thought this would be an explanation. Sorry, I couldn't find anything KickChick, would there be a translation for it to another language perhaps?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu exercise program - Need Ideas
BonnyBoy replied to Dober's topic in Health and Fitness
Eliminate caffeine from your diet, I remember reading this somewhere, I think it's because caffeine slows you down. Not sure. You might want to consider investing in Beyond Brawn, which you can get from https://www.hardgainer.com , I've been told it's the best $25 you'll ever spend, but I can't vouch for it yet. I'm buying the book, and will make a weight training routine for myself, 'cause there is a guy I roll with who's only 73kgs and thanks to lifting weights he has crazy strength which allows him to pull me around like a rag doll in his guard. Swimming seems like it would be really good cardio for your endurance, but nothing will take the place of rolling, it's a different kind of fitness. A strong neck will also serve you well, especially for bridging and getting out of positions. You can do exercises like the neck bridge, but I've heard it's a dangerous exercise to do. -
Ergh, I don't like McDonals all that much, greasy crap that doesn't even fill you up.. But, I have a weakness for anything with sugar mainly.

How do you practice?
BonnyBoy replied to rabid hamster's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I've considered starting a note book, where I'll write down all techniques covered in class, as well as problems I have when rolling, so that I'll remember the techniques and find ways to overcome the problems I have when rolling. If I have a real problem, I'll ask a purple belt when we're rolling at his house. Rolling is by far the best thing to practice techniques, because it's applying the techniques against a reisisting partner which is the hard part. -
lol Mr Heel Hook,I'm 176cm tall, 187lbs, and 17 years old. I'm pretty inactive other than my MA training (2-3x a week), I spend a lot of time on my computer or reading. Doesn't look like I'll be training for a while since I hyper-extened my elbow, but I'm doing cardio.
