Get your facts right please. Royce DIDN'T tap. Yoshida looked up to the ref and said he was out. How is that tapping in the first place? Secondly, have any of you ever lost consciousness from a choke?? You dont jump to your feet and say "What the hell is going on!?" No, you lay there a moment and struggle to understand what was going on. As Royce did when he was put out by clock choke against Walid. They both went over to the judges and Royce was telling Yoshuda he better take that back because he wasnt out and he damn well knew that. I saw the fight, and I saw from the angles the choke was not secure. Aside from that though, Like I said at first, you DO NOT bounce to your feet after having your lights out.

You are definitely on the right track with the foods you have taken out. Especially the white bread. (Though it taste so good) You seem to be right on track with what you are taking in. There are no true short cuts in this. Aside from that, some people are just genetically predisposed to hold onto that fat in your body. It's a left over from our caveman days when fat was super important in survival. Are you exercising with cardo three times a week? That's just as important for you as eating at this stage. Eating properly, along with eating at the right times (especially AFTER a workout) will be what is most important for you. Try scheduling small meals through the day. As many as 5 to 6. One more thing you need to do, if you can, is try running in the morning. Running in the morning, will actually boost your ability to burn fat as much as 600 percent!! Now, I am sorry for the short answer I have given you, and I will redo it to its complete form tomorrow at sometime. I am just very tired and rambling at this point. If you havemore questions, please feel free to ask.

I just got off the phone with my buddy who is in Cali to compete in the IGJJF tournament that's being held next weekend. So, of course I am asking how's he doing and whatnot. So, after all the cordial stuff, I asked how it was to train with the "old man" Helio (Readers note: This is not meant as disrespect. Its more like when you watch those old kung Fu movies, and the random old man/teacher kicks all kinda a$$, that's how its meant. So a compliment in other words.) he says it was great. After a few more words were shared on that, he mentions. "Hey remember Married with Children?" "Yeah, with Ed O'neil"? I reply. "I just trained with him. He's awesome! Ed's a 2 stripe purple bet!" Now, I remember reading somewhere that he practiced Gracie Jiu Jitsu, but I had no IDEA he was a purple belt! Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised to hear that, and of course, slightly amused he was so "tuff." So, that's my random story for the day. Wish my friend luck at the tournament!!

I'll reiterate a bit. Going on a no carb diet is very bad for your health. Yes, it works, but will lead you into deeper waters in the long run. If you want to lose weight the only true way to do it is with a proper diet. (This includes carbs and high protein AKA chicken no skin/tuna/turkey/ very lean red meat...major source of vitamin B-12) and a lot of aerobic exercise. Now, when you exercise you should do at the very least 40 minutes per session every other day. The reason is your body will not burn any fat whatsoever until your heart has been pumping for 20 minutes. Then after that, what I would suggest is eating a meal with a lot of protein in it. Eating after a work out will actually keep your metabolism going longer. Meat and potatoes are actually very good for you. The "bad carbs" you want to stay away from are anything that is instant. Instant rice, instant mash, etc.etc.etc. They are loaded with preservatives and such that give you (in short) those bad carbs. As for drinking water to reduce kidney stones. yes, that is true, but that is true of anyone. Placing yourself in a situation like that while drinking water will only diminish the chances of long run danger by a somewhat meager about. What is found in those starchy carbo ridden foods actually breaks down what causes the kidney stone affects. In short, like I said, contact your own nutritionist and speak thoroughly of the affects of this new fad. Ask what you need to do to lose the weight you so desperately want to get rid of. It will be easier then you think. Just takes patients and exercise. I just want people to be a bit more understanding of the affects of this new diet fad. It does work wonders at first. But like any short cut, there is always a toll to pay. PS: I would suggest talking to AL (aes) about this if you don't want to do the research. A lowered calorie/carb intake is what will work best and what is safest for you. Sorry bout the plug, Al.

Welp, I put my Gi in for 24 minutes. And PRESTO CHANGO, it worked like a charm. I am very satisfied with the results. Oh, and I put it in so long cause the material is so heavy and think. At first I put it in for 10 minutes, but it wasnt even warm. Though it's called a double weave, I swear the lapel is triple.

beginning sparring in BJJ

OK, lets see...the first thing you should be learning in Jiu Jitsu is how to hold your guard properly from closed position, then how to work from a spider guard (open position) Keeping a good guard will force the opponent into a situation that you make him work through. It is true that the guard is not the dominant position. However, it is a position you can force the opponent to do as you wish. There are several submissions from the guard and several sweeps from it as well. The fact is, when you are facing a more dominant opponent, with greater skill, you will be forced into using your guards from mounting you. The guard can be very advantages and takes more skill to utilize than any other position. It is, and always will be very uncomfortable for people just beginning. That's just how it goes, but trust me, after a bit of time you will become use to it and might even start pulling the guard on people deliberately. Some people work their guard for 3 or 4 years to try and "master" it. This is done to of course utilize it's and their abilities, but also to totally understand the guard and understand what weakness they may capitalize on from weak techniques from the guard. In short, they go through it so long to completely understand it. Something I see a lot in beginners is a lack of patients. Or perhaps a lack of keeping their cool might be better said? Either way, just remember to be patient and conserve energy. That's a big part of the game. Now this doesn't mean just stay in your guard and wait for them to do something every single time. No, not at all. What it means is don't explode every two seconds with a blood curtailing roar. Rely and refine technique. It is true (and I say more so than any other MA) that Jiu Jitsu rely on technique rather than strength. Many MA claim that, but it is a part of Jiu Jitsu in every facet. Be patient. Be thoughtful. Refine your technique. Force the match into your pace. Master your guard and all facets of its beginnings. These are things you should most worry about from the beginning. -
Though most people don't do this...many do. Try not to eat a few hours before you go to bed. Not even a small meal. The problem with it is when you sleep, your metabolism falls inactive to the point were is crashes through the floor landing hard in the basement. It becomes almost totally inactive so you burn almost nothing. Eating small meals through the day is what is best for you. Not that I do this myself because in this fast pace world it's almost impossible to do so. But, if you have the time, that is what would be best for you. Small meals the body will absorb much better and use it to them to their maximum efficiency. Aside from that, people will keep telling you to eat your greens...greens...greens...greens. True, very true, but don't forget your lovely corn. Corn, as well as your greens is riddled with vitamins (Not as much as greens though) but it is very very high in potassium. Something very important for brain function. Another thing it is loaded in is in starch. Starch is very good for your colon, and with the increasing rate in colon cancer (especially for us guys) you just can't go wrong with it. So don't neglect that funny colored veggie, corn.

Just a word of advice since I work in nutrition. Putting yourself on a low carb diet is a bad idea. It's unhealthy for you in several ways. It is true, it will help you lose weight quickly...at first that is. But, if you keep up this newest fad, you with dramatically increase the chance of kidney stones along with several other ugly things. Aside from that, carbs are important to you. (Yes, there are good and bad carbs. But its barely worth keeping track of) What they do? To simplify it carbs make it so your body draws out the effects of foods that give you energy. The easiest example is you know how you get a boost from eating a candy bar? Well, with a mix of carbs (remember, this is just an example, don't run out and buy snickers and eat pasta with it) the effect of the candies sugar with stay with you for a much longer amount of time. Warning, this is a fad and can cause you serious malnutrition problems if you treat it like a religion. Stick to exercise and proper dieting. (Ya know, that basic food group plan people have forgotten) Consult your doctor, or better yet consult a nutritionist.

People have changed in the past 50 years never mind 20,000 and what not. How they have changed is by size and strength. So in turn techniques have changed to modify and deal with much stronger people. Yes, so the techniques have reformed and modulated to be more exact and precise in what they must do. Many things have changed because of size and strength differences that never had be dealt with 50 years ago. That is something that can't be argued. Evolution in technique has happened just like it has in man. Techniques will ever change because of new fighting styles, but at first it started because of the evolution of man. Helio Gracie (newest 'grappling magazine') has said this himself so-to-speak. "Fighters are much bigger and stronger then they use to be" That was said in the sense of how martial athletes train with weights more and the whatnot. But in truth, Helio changed the Japanese techs because they needed to be refined...why...because people and their bodies are different. Size Strength This is how man has changed in the past 50 years never mind 2,000 years ago when grappling was born. Grappling has changed because of evolution in man and his technique in fighting.
