  2. A well directed punch to the bridge of the nose. That is only if you think the situation could get out of hand if you dont deal with it at that time. Sometimes a push can become a full-on fist fight in a matter of seconds. And other times its just some macho man trying to prove he is tough. I have had people push me before a number of times and when they realise that i have super human strength they give up easily. The most important thing is not to push back.. if your going to do anything make sure its a strike. If you push its basically telling the person that you are "challenging" them.
  3. This post is not about 'secrets' if it was i would have called it "SECRETS of becoming a good fighter" Once again, this post is about how to become a good fighter. Even if you can do 1000 pushups it doesnt mean your a good fighter. Olympic weight lifters can lift more than double what an average person can. Does that make them a good fighter? I guess now we all know why you are called drunken monkey
  4. I never said they were secrets. Of coarse you need to learn how to punch first, and then practice will make you better. I don't remember saying they couldnt.
  5. If you take the time to practise at home then karate may benifit you.
  6. I got hit in the kidney at training once, i didnt feel the pain until i got home. It hurt for a couple of days then was fine. I can only repeat what the others guys said. If you notice any difference in your urine, extreme pain or it doesnt recover in a few days then go see a doctor. Better to be safe than sorry.

  8. I agree with Jussi Häkkinen. People who can't give their style a name that uses 1 language generally don't teach anything worth while.
  9. I recently made a peice of equipment that is simple in design, cheap, easy to make and works well for building had eye co-ordination. You need: a piece of thin elastic a tennis ball a headband or sweatband and some duct tape Construction: Tie one end of the elastic to the head band. Then tie and tape the other end of the elastic to the tennis ball. How to use it: Basically put the headband on your head so that the ball hangs down your front to about belly-button height. Then punch the ball with alternate hands(it snaps back towards your face each time you punch, so if u miss it... ) I have seen some boxers and other martial artists use this in their training and thought i would post the info here for people who havnt seen it before.
  10. Very good tips Jussi Häkkinen. Also, don't just leave without talking it over with your sensei, maybe ask him why you dont do bag work and explain that u want to be able to handle yourself better on the street.

  12. Every fight will pan out differently so the statistics dont make much difference. But dont forget that 50% of the time someone wins. lol

    The rigidness your talking about is only in basic training where you learn the full motion of the techniques. and you basically do more than you need to. This is so later on when you get into application of the techniques and sparring you can use only small parts of these movements to defeat your opponent. Alot of advanced karate-ka are smooth and fast when sparring, not stiff and rigid.
  16. I have a video on my pc that demonstrates bunkai which includes some throws and ground fighting. Most of the throws are ones that make the person land on there back or head so its hard for them to break fall. Also the ground fighting is very basic, e.g pinning the arms etc. In general most karate techniques are more effective standing up. But dont limit there applications because with some imagination they can work great on the ground of from any position.

  21. Or camps usually have a theme. Like one year it was : you are a student from one of 4 competing martial arts schools in feudal japan. We had all sorts of things bassed around this, like missions that each group must complete before the end of the camp and demonstrations etc. Lots of fun.

  24. The uppercut is usually used from close distance and the hand doesnt go very far out from the body. Make sure you are not "reaching" when you do it.
