  1. Thought i would write some information about the basic defences in boxing..(this also applys to some other martial arts) Once the boxing defence is mastered is it can protect the practicioner from almost any hand strike from almost any art. Evasion: Evasion is basically ducking and weaving. Some evasion techniques include the right/left duck, inside/outside weave and backward weave. These techniques involve moving your head and sometimes body out of the way of your opponents attacks. Covering: Covering is used to protect the head and body from attacks, covering uses mostly the arms and gloves/hands. Some cover techniques include the high front/left/right cover and the low left/right cover. These techniques involve holding your arms close to your body/head and absorbing the blows on your arms. "Rolling with the punches" is a technique often used to further absorb the blows when covering. It involves moving in the same direction as the punches are going. Parrying: Parrying is similar to covering, the difference is that parrying changes the direction of the blows rather than absorbing them. Some parries include inside, outside, upper and lower. These techniques involve "pushing" the opponents arm, either from the side, the top or the bottom. Its important when parrying that you dont reach out to far or use very large movements because you will leave yourself open. Practising: The best way to pracitse defence is by first learning the movements and working on them individually, then putting them all together in sparring. Final Note: Remember you should not rely on defence alone, everytime you defend a strike you should be thinking of counter attacking and in some cases you can use a defensive move and an attack using both hands at the same time. For example, if your opponent goes to punch you, you could parry and strike an opening on the one "beat". This saves time and helps stop your opponent from throwing combinations.[/b]
  2. Have u ever sparred a boxer before??
  3. Just keep training the same way you did at your school (or as close to the same as possible) also do alot of bag work and find some sparring partners.
  4. I dont see a link to the group...
  5. thats a very long article... I agree with Patrick, if you want to comment on an article just post the link and your comment.. not the whole article.

  7. https://www.karateforums.com https://www.24fightingchickens.com https://www.sherdog.com https://www.fightauthority.com https://www.subfighter.com
  8. Both would help you but it depends on the instructor and what the school focuses on.
  9. My only tip is train hard and have fun.
  10. I can use both.. but i favour my left because i have slighty more control over it.
  11. I would say the same as you Gino, Oyama, Funakoshi and Lee. But also i would like to meet and train with some of the top ufc, pride fighters including Ken Shammrock. And Jackie Chan because he could teach me alot about stunts and onscreen martial arts performances...
  12. it should be https://www.masitebuilder.com
  13. Something that focuses on clinch, takedowns, grappling and ground fighting would supplement your shotokan training well.
  14. i guess anything is better than nothing
  15. have a look at https://www.fightauthority.com << it has alot of stuff about different arts.
  16. I think learning more than one style has its advantages because you can take the best techniques from each.. You just need to remember that being overcrowded with techniques that you have no chance of doing in a real life situation can be a disadvantage if you fall into that trap
  17. You will notice at http://www.shaolin-do.com/pages/legal.html it says that " Videotaping of any aspect of the Shaolin Do Art is strictly prohibited." .... maybe they have something to hide.
  18. i think you should at least check it out.. Looking at the site he seems like quiet a knowledgable instructor, do i think you should go to a class and judge for yourself.
  19. Ok, im not sure exactly of the laws but i think in Victoria the are a little bit strictor than in other states. Basically u need to talk to someone in the government to get a licence... try calling your local police station and they might be able to tell you who to call.
  20. Just one thing... its maegeri not maegueri
  21. it really depends what state you are in...
  22. Mostly my front foot is positioned on my opponents face , or sometimes other areas
  23. With time and practise of basics, and sparring you "should" become better.
  24. block it, duck, move out of the way, hit them before they lift their leg.
