  1. Martial Art competitors do it as well. My fight weight is alot lower than my normal body weight. I will weight in from 165-172lbs, and usually fight around the 176-180lbs mark.
  2. 'Respect' and 'Ortiz' aren't really two word I would use together. Ortiz has shown a lack of respect in the past to others. Frank whooped him. But he is the WWF fighter the UFC wants to mainstream the sport.
  3. Just be careful where you train...the JKD instructor in our are is a Tae Kwon Do guy who took a couple seminars, and runs the class because he idolizes Bruce Lee
  4. Does anyone find the board slow right now?
  5. We will be trying this out...I'll post the footage when it's done. Should be good for a laugh!
  6. I was think that they could be attached to a full face sparing helmet (like the ones sold by aries). I'm thinking that watching yourself fight from an opponents perspective may give you some insight to weaknesses, and openings you are leaving.
  7. Check out http://www.wle.com Wing Lam teaches Hung Gar and a NorthernShaolin Style...there are too many Kung Fu's out there. I personally study Shaolin, but very different than others that I have seen, it comes down to lineage my friend.
  8. I was looking at these video cameras http://shop.viosport.com while they have been used for other sports, I was wondering if it would be possible or practical to attach it to head gear during sparring...one to analyise your fights, from both an attackers and a defenders first person. What do you think?
  9. Shaolin Leopard and Tiger are very different styles, by virtue of the hand techniques for a starter...
  10. I think I can take him.... A little young and at 5 years starting traing at three, he got his belt in less than 2 years?

  12. I don't understand the poll? What the heck are people voting on...what is stronger a tiger or a mantis? I'd say a tiger can probably eat the mantis , but wouldn't wast his time on a bug. If were talking styles here too general, most animal styles are subsystems of larger systems. ie. shaolin --- tiger. leopard, mantis, dog, monkey, duck, scorpion, etc.. hung gar --- snake, tiger, crane, leopard, dragon
  13. The whipping motion will penetrate to do internal damage. Is it better? It is tough to say. However, there are many styles which incorporate both hard and soft, Shaolin being one of them. That I believe has better versatility, than a strictly hard or soft style.
  14. Take a look here: http://members.tripod.com/shaolinwushu/historysanshou.htm
  15. And that short clip has proven so much...you have a point fighter fighting a professional NHB fighter. Shonie Carter a San Shou (Kungfu)/Siedokan (karate) beat Brad Gunn (BJJ) at UFC 24 and Matt Sera from Renzo Gracies School at UFC 31.
  16. Tapout said "Why would a Kung-Fu practitioner fight a BJJ practitioner, it's EXTREMELY OBVIOUS that the Kung-Fu practitioner would lose." There is tons of evidence to the conrary of this: http://www.mixedmartialarts.ca/HTML/Rumble5/09JeremiahJason.htm The Tai Chi guy won this fight. he's from Nothern Lights tai Chi in Dawson Creek, B.C. Onassis Parungao is a Hung Gar stylist who has fought and won in the UFC: http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/displayfighter.cfm?fighterid=116 http://www.thekwoon.com there used to be clips of the UFC fights in his bio.
  17. My post on this at McDojo.com: Information on John Marsh: http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/displayfighter.cfm?fighterid=9 Some background: "What is did prove is the fallacy of thinking you know your skills when you never really test them. To illustrate my point, let me tell you the story of John's fight. Originally, someone else was going to fight the "kung fu master" in question. However, since $5,000. was on the line and the kung fu camp had said they would fight anyone, John was approached about doing the fight. The BJJ camp knew that John was the best choice to ensure victory. This is because John trained and fought competitively against other fighters, including the original person who was going to fight the kung fu man. John was far from the highest ranking, being only a purple belt in BJJ at the time. However, the BJJ camp knew John was their best choice based on the objective data, even though he was not the most experienced or the highest ranking, or even the biggest. The kung fu side, on the other hand, had no way to objectively determine who was their best fighter. They didn't regularly test their skills in competitions, or even in training against 100% resisting opponents. Because of this, the only way they had to judge who was the "best" was by who was the highest ranking, knew the most techniques, could beat everyone in "tag/point fighting" practice sessions, and who could perform his techniques with the best form. Based on this, the "kung fu master" was considered to be their best choice, although they had several practitioners who were John's size or bigger. As a matter of fact, one of the gentlemen from their school is shown in the background during the fight. At about 6'6" and 290 lbs., he dwarfed John. The kung fu school assumed he was not as good a choice as the smaller "master." The BJJ side had multiple objective proofs for John being the best choice for the fight. Unfortunately, for the kung fu school, they had to make their choice based on subjective criteria, since they never actually used their "deadly" techniques at 100% against 100% resisting opponents." Food for thought.
  18. Wear one sparkle glove, and do it to some Micheal Jackson music. Make sure to grab your groin lots and Kiah!
  19. Check out this thread: http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=400&forum=27 There is only 11 pages of debate to read
  20. Favorite is "Fist of Legend" Starring Jet Lei
  21. Do Ninja's have stock in the Caramilk secret? Is that why they want to kill that dude on TV? Do ninjas really breakdance anytime they hear "Kung-Fu Fighting" on the jukebox? Is the Ninja's training video "Ninja 3:The Domination" equivilent to basic training? Check out http://www.entertheninja.com for your answers...
  22. I'd have to say right now it's Fightsport. Good coverage of martial arts events. Good coverage of MMA, and kickboxing... I find mags like Black Belt to have some really poorly written articles.
  23. Sticky Hands can be utilized in breaking down an attackers defense, pull them off balance and so forth. It works in Kickboxing to a degree (it is alittle hampered by the gloves), but still works.
  24. My students bow when they come in the door, and before they leave. That is about it other than when they are going to spar they bow before, mainly because we go full-contact when we spar and I want no hard feelings. But really beyond that nothing.
