I think sponsorship is good to a point. I personally send letters out every year for donations for the club. In exchange we take out an ad in the local paper every year thanking all those who donated. I think in our situation it is appropriate as we are a non-profit association. Also it enables us to keep our training fees low, $350 Canadian / year ($230 US).

BJJ And Judo
Iron Arahat replied to Karateka_latino's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I think they look similar, because Judo was developed out of the teaching of jujitsu by Kano. They are based on similar principle, just variations in rules. -
Unfortunately the answer on several occassions. Due to the fact I work in law enforcement, situations have come up, and I have had to defend myself or others. This has also included and empty hand (me) vs. a knife weilding assailant. Scary situations like this make me thankful for the years of hard training in Kung-fu.

World Championships in Armenia have been rescheduled, due to recent events. Many countries will not be attending the newly scheduled date at the end of the month. It is unfortunate... -

I think the best Jet Lei movie is "Fist of Legend", very impressive martial arts, no flying crap. -

Just a word of caution with the keys between the fingers. Never place the keys between the fingers of a closed fist and punch, it will rip the webbing between your fingers on impact. I can cause you alot of damage.

who likes/does judo????
Iron Arahat replied to kicker's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I have done judo for years, but switched to kungfu, as obviously the is not striking in judo, and I felt I learned what I needed from the sport. My brother still takes judo and has never stopped, over 16 years he has trained in judo. We still fight any time we can. It's funny when we get together, often we end up in the basement or in the backyard and practicing. -

Kung Fu styles..
Iron Arahat replied to jer's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
San Shou is not really a style per say, but rather a set of rules under which to compete. The main difference you would find is the difference in the clinch. Because San Shou involves throws to a great extent, it changes the strategies during the clinch. -
Different coloured Gi's for rank in Kung-Fu? How does that work?

Grappling Arts
Iron Arahat replied to Kickbutt's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I think that Chinese systems that incorporate Chi na in their systems are very effective, as they cover all ranges, weapons, kicking, punching, trapping, throws, and ground work. Shuai Chiao has somewhat gone the way of BJJ, many people focus on the sport aspect too much. They are different, again it is hard to find a good instructor; however I think you may be able to in Vancouver. BJJ is more widespread and easier to find...
