I think my point was actually to make sure you make the distinction between the three. And what you are saying is 100 percent correct with lighter contact. When you increase the level of contact to better simulate fighting or competing, a less experienced but fast and strong person becomes more of a problem. I've trained my whole life, but on several occasions I've seen highschool football players with no MA experience train for a couple months give me trouble with speed, reach (I'm about 5'6), and basic boxing skill. Did I have an advantage? Yes. Did I get clocked a few times? Yes again.

Read Judges 5:23-27 It'll give your a little perspective on this matter. Jesus was talking about the insult of being slapped, if he were talking about true violence, he would have told the soldier to turn the other ear.

What traditional weapon is the most effective now a days?
MasterPain replied to Espina's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
If you are carrying a gun, you are most likely: A. a cop or B. a gangster. Let's say you are in the middle of a verbal altercation and see a person reach into their pocket. A mental alarm goes off. If you are a cop, the gun is on your hip in a holster. You should be able to draw, turn off safety and fire while backing away before being cut. If you're a gangster, the gun is probably tucked under your shirt in the waistband of your pants, which will take a split second longer to draw. During this time you will probably be maimed or killed. Now lets assume that I want you dead for some reason you are not aware of. If I walk up to you making small talk with my hands in my pockets, pull the knife out when I'm 5 feet away and come at you, then you better be good at unarmed defense, because there is no way you can draw in time, cop or gangster. The knife and gun fight thing is situational and will highly depend upon when both parties become aware that there is a fight of any kind in the first place. I also don't believe there is such a thing as an unskilled knife fighter. Sure, a trained kali expert is more deadly than the average person, but anyone with a blade and murderous intent can kill you. I think it was Musashi that said anyone can kill anyone at any time, for any reason. -
I made a heater shield the other day. It turned out pretty good, but they are hard to guard low with. I wanted something easier to maneuver so I made a buckler from a old skillet and a piece of 2x4. Now I just need to figure out how I want to paint it. The heater shield I used a skull and crossbones on, simple, yet very cool looking. Any ideas for the round shield? Keep in mind I have no artistic talent.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on that one. Actually I think that idea is rather dangerous to believe. A 150 pound guy can train like crazy, learn all kinds of techniques and concepts for his lifetime. But he will have problems with a 250 pound natural athlete that comes at him with serious aggression, even if he's never been taught to throw a proper punch. The unpredictability is the problem you will deal with, fear or not. I think the most important lesson for a high level martial artist is that they are still human, with human weaknesses, and even a beginner can land a lucky shot. Remember "The Titanic is UNSINKABLE."

BEWARE OF THE LORAX!!!!!!!!!!!

Away from home, I agree about the knife being more practical. But I have a sword just through the door beside me now, and in the event of needing a weapon , I would rather run and grab it than the knife that is right under the monitor.

Fighting a Boxer

In training, practice controlling range to keep them out of their comfort zone. Then, ask them to work slowly and easy with you in a boxing range fight. It's best to learn each area from someone who is superior at it. To spend the entire time avoiding a weak area would be detrimental to your growth as a fighter. But yes, in a defense situation, hit him with an iron or something. -
Defense against School Scuffles

I have to agree here, if you are not really threatened, and they have shown no sign of really wanting to hurt you, then let the authorities deal with it. For one thing, let's say you hit one of them, then they would all become violent. Not only is this very dangerous to you, but to deal with multiple people seriously trying to hurt you would require attacking with extreme violence until you could escape or they decide not to fight anymore. I would hate to leave someone permanently injured because they pushed me. -
Couple hours free roll and instructing.

Bujin Bugei Jutsu- Another great mixture of arts. Our goal is to have a complete combat system, covering all ranges from weapons, kicking, punching, clinch and trapping to grappling. Our instructor started out in Goju Ryu, picked up some JKD, some grappling and it's evolved over the years. It's really not a style in the fact that anyone who has high rank with us does not fight the same. We've all figured out what works best for us and adapted for bodytype and other considerations.

I have been working on a zombie survival kit that I keep in my closet. Games are fun, but 2012 is coming and the end is extremely nigh. remember to vote for Cthulu, why choose the lesser of two evils?

Has anyone used two diffrent weapons at once?
MasterPain replied to albeaver89's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
My friend used a machete and a plunger. (Our teacher is a plumber.) -
Wolverines have a them according to wikipedia. And you were right about Lamentations, it is a book in the old testament. It's only 5 chapters long and takes up about 1 page. Easy to overlook, but it's there.

Actually I think it's Ocham's Razor, but it's nice to see that someone else knows what that is. -
I prefer Beethoven's 9th or Moonlight Sonata.
