  1. 8/2 am: golf 18 holes pm: gym low intensity low pyramid full body workout
  2. 7/28 golf ( hitting long drives - max intensity) 7/29 am: morning run and tabata am: gym (low pyramid " reps 10 - 8 - 5") and moderate load increase for each set. 60 min.
  3. Just a thought - if you have to take slow in physical exercise, you might have time to read about history or strategies? Remember that you need just the right amount of exercise and then enough rest to let the body recover. Too much exercise does not add to faster recovery.
  4. 7/27 am: morning run 2,2 km + tabata final day of the golf tournament 18 holes
  5. My strongest background is in karate. I had a 20 year break in training and went back to karate dojo for a year, then tried Han Moo Do and boxing. After that I aimed to go to judo, but ended doing BJJ. I still want to try judo as a conditioning exercise - workout for core and dynamic balance. I think that it's good to do ukemis after 50 years of age. You have to learn to break a fall. I don't know if karate, judo, bjj or boxing is fun. All of them are fun, if you are sparring with a skilful partner. All of them develop different abilities.
  6. 7/26 golf tournament 18 holes and lots of youtube/dvd watching... and some Ribeiro reading.
  7. I started BJJ with a Judo gi. After a while a bought Fuji All Around BJJ Gi Black #7003 (Our club gi - with Hilti patches.) Feels very light after a judo gi and dries faster too.
  8. 7/25 morning run 2,2 km and tabata golf tournament 18 holes
  9. In McDojo if it is a franchise you might need to go to an instructor course to get a certificate and maybe follow a curriculum (Thinking of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu). This might be some quality control? (But is expensive...) Hobbyist is just a youngster grown in to sport and quality depends on senseis ability to use assistant coaches/instructors. Being a good karateka does not mean that one is a good teacher/instructor. I am not sure that traditional method of teaching karate is the best on - it was developed for teaching large groups - like using the basic form for basic techniques. BUT I don't know how they teach in McDojos. Is the money used to develop teaching methods and educating instructors?
  10. Just read the thread about black belt not being 1 dan and so on. There was a question about why does a club have to get all the money from every "service". Here in Finland we are new to "McSport" but it's getting more and more popular. Sport clubs were run by societies, not by owners. And coaches or trainers were moms and dads or avid persons. What are the pros for having a "professional" sensei? (Do they really have any more professional skills or is it just the same traditional development that happens with hobbies getting first dan and getting in to instructing classes?)
  11. 7/24 morning run 2,2 km and tabata golf tournament 18 holes (could be better, but 3 days left to improve)
  12. 7/23 am: morning jog 2,2 km and tabata. pm: slow roll 60 minutes:)
  13. 7/22 Sunday golf (Missed BJJ Class, but I need the rest.)
  14. gym: reps 10 - 8 - 5 with load 5 to 10 kg increase on each set. Split day routine - day A ( about 60 minutes). (Liked it very much more than 3 x 10 reps with same load.)
  15. am: golf 18 holes pm: bjj class. drilled re guarding a guard pass and straight armbar. slow roll:)
  16. 7/19 wake up run 2,2 km with tabata pm: gym maybe 80% intensity 3 x 10 reps each movement. (80minutes)
  17. 7/18 am: jog (tabata 8 x 20 sec with 10sec recovery) 2,2 km mid: golf 18 holes pm: missed BJJ class...I'll try to watch some techniques.
  18. I've been reading Ribeiro's book for a week or so. I've tested survival positions rolling with other students. I think it has bought my some time and gives some kind of plan for escapes. I am looking for one or two partners to drill the moves, but most of them just want to free roll - drilling is dull. BUT I am a very slow learner so I need drilling before rolling. (Or slow roll would help, but that is a scarce luxury.)
  19. I feel that I'm strong in teaching - I've done some instructional videos on Karate and written a book about couching and also have a masters degree in Physical education. (Also some 30 years of experience in actual teaching.) I think it would be important to develop - deepen students knowledge and teach principle -> concepts. BUT I don't have a clear picture of concepts:) And my own skills are not very deep - almost not existing. I need to be a good student first to become a good instructor. Any ideas on who to follow on distant learning? (I am also going to classes at our own club, but it's more or less learning single movements and free rolling - kind of natural way of learning:) Strongest survive - but I am hanging in there
  20. 7/17 am: morning run 2,2 km ( tabata) pm: gym 60 min. about 70% intensity 3x10 reps
  21. 7/16 Wake up run - 2,2 km (interval) 18 holes golf Watching youtube BJJ
  22. Thanks Dobie and Dobbersky, I'll try to find out more about bjjcoach. It looks interesting. Maybe it's more like a study plan? Cobra is in UK, but I live in Finland... there might be a small problem:) BUT... no worries.
  23. 7/15 one 90 min lesson on BJJ seminar
  24. Would anyone be interested in discussing what makes a good instructor - in BJJ or other martial arts?
  25. Our team does not have instructor education or a plan how to grow instructors from students. Often a "system" to teach students to become an instructor is to let them do the warmups or teach some drills or basic techniques and after a while they get their own slot in the timetable and so on. BUT... What if I wanted to be good at instructing BJJ? It would help is I were good in BJJ, I know, but I don't think that's enough. It's not enough to do. You need to understand and also know how to make others understand and do. Gracie has an instructors certificate program. Is there any others? I mean online or otherwise accessible from some where far far away:)
