  1. I keep getting an error tryin to watch the vid. Do you set the armbar up with a cross choke and then reaching in (with arm nearest the legs) and scooping the bicep? if that makes sense.
  2. The storyline is very simple, obviously for kids, special effects are amazing and the characters are likable and it really takes you to another place and leaves you wanting more.
  3. That's awesome. He did a great job. Looking forward to seeing the next one.
  4. What is your signature move? Something you like to use and is high percentage for you. Here's mine, it's called Ten Finger Choke. I'm the guy with his shirt of. lol
  5. Yeah based on keeping your word.
  6. Not sure. It's just agreed upon and has been done a couple of times. But when you have a room full of alpha males and some new hott chic walks in the door, you'd just be wasting your breath to say don't do it. Of course I don't have these problems now as my wife and I run Jiu Jitsu Nation. It's better business if you don't have these things going on between staff and students. If nothing else to avoid the whispering and the breaks ups and headaches that come with it. It really was unprofessional and inappropriate. I'm sure that if you are an employee of the school it could be considered conflict of interest and fire this person. But with that comes more headaches.
  7. Thanks isshinryu5toforever. I will get on the keywords immediately. My sites have only been live for a couple months and took a lot of work getting them to where they are now. I have a great core group that recruits for me but I have just recently opened after teaching at another location, for 10 years, one city over. So yeah starting over in many ways but my name is known in the area already so that helps. Its just getting the new school name branded. I really appreciate the thorough response!
  8. DWx was pointing out that she'd been in a headlock, had difficulty getting out of it, though she finally did, and the one applying the headlock said that if she'd broken his finger, it'd have been much more expedient. She then asked that if one of us were mugging someone and she broke your finger, would you let go. Sensei8 and I were agreeing that we would. I don't think anyone's saying that breaking the finger devastates the attacker, but it gives precious time to the freed defender to run or hit and run. Oh yeah, sorry. I was focused on the tail end of the topic on that one. I bees quiet now!
  9. I have put together some pretty exciting demonstrations but I don't think I use them enough or set them up enough. Although it was challenging in the beginning. I actually started adding thing to my demos based on when my students would respond with oooooohs and aaaahs. Pricing on line is something that I have considered but for some reason I'm having difficulty just making the decision. You feel this is a good idea?
  10. The finger thing is very painful. However I have seen this many times in practice as our fingers get hung in the gis. (When training hard for major tournaments) You would be surprised how many of us reset the finger tape it up and keep going. But I think we need to set the scene a bit more. With the snatch and run image and the example of the old woman, seems just holding on to what you got and making some noise would do the trick. Maybe even the well placed kick you mentioned. But I can't see the finger thing coming into play here. Not that it absolutely doesn't or couldn't just seems a bit more commitment than is required. Either that or I've given this entirely too much thought!
  11. I understand what you are saying and I think if everyone looks at this correctly and not as a reflection of ones self then it makes perfect sense. I would like to say however in the event a person is highly skilled and in a conflict I believe they will be able to control the situation better and the amount of damage done to the assailant more deliberate. So as to say easier for them to apply enough of what they know to neutralize the person without going overboard. However, newbies hurt more people in class because of their lack of sensitivity, control and awareness. So I would expect the same in the street.
  12. I believe that the finger "breaks" in question are actually dislocations, not the literal breaking of phalanges. It's painful, but not the wost thing I've ever felt (though, I've never broken a bone). Human bites can be as nasty as dog bites, and if someone had my head, I would not think twice about chomping on them. Yes, biting him will probably cause him to hit back. So will punching, kicking, throwing, or twisting him. If you aren't going to just stand there and take a beating, why would you expect your attacker to? Sure, some people could be (and have been) scared off by "a swift kick," but plenty of others won't. Maybe the guy is a coward, and picked an "easy" target, but to assume that is to make the same mistake that he just did. Word! I'm not biting anyone. Yuk. I mean maybe through a jacket or something not nothing where my mouth is on the flesh. At least not unless it is a desperate attempt because my life is threatened. I say this because criminals generally are bottom of the barrel socially and you don't know where they have been! lol
  13. Hey! I just saw one of my google ads pop up on the bottom of the forum! I got excited, sorry, so I thought I'd ask everyone. Also what types of referral programs do you utilize in you school? Is school a good generic term? As I don't know what everyone calls their place of training.
  14. In the gym we have a rule: If any of the staff goes out with a student and it results in this person leaving the school because of the break up. The pay off the rest of this persons contract for them. Usually only happens once. lol
  15. Wow how long is that test? And good luck!
  16. See it's little things like that that you don't think about. The comments on the bottom of youtube. Man I get trash talked by little kids on xbox! lol Let me also say that this topic was not the result of something I've experienced here. Just curiosity and the fact I know there is a level of tension and profiling that goes on. Human nature.
  17. Yeah I agree with the bite thing making him angry. Unless on the hand because I think that would get the same response as the finger break. But again just for the response. And Jo is right. They are looking for easy targets and when you decide not to be one they may wilt away. Especially if you are not secluded and there is a greater chance you will be heard and seen.
  18. Yeah I get that. I respect everyone here for the way everyone treats one another.
  19. I snapped a pinky while training for the pan ams. It was the middle joint whatever that is called and it was very painful. It got caught in my training partners gi and yanked sideways. I kept going through the training match and then tried to continue for my next. After my break the pain was much worse and I couldn't use it so I stuck my hand in my belt and kept going. I definitely feel it could be a deterrent. I also agree with the thumb comment. If you are going to have to start breaking your assailant down, you gotta start somewhere.
  20. Thank you for that. I really wish to bring my area of expertise to the table when it is asked for and relevant. I'm highly confrontational and outspoken but Patrick is teaching me to be more patient and careful with my words! lol But i don't look at martial arts the way the BJJ babies do. They are just excited and full of testosterone. I used to be one of those guys back 10 years ago when I first started. I didn't make many friends that way, so I understand where everyone is coming from. My travels have taught me different. I have been in front of a few styles that have more than gained my respect. I've gathered it's all in how you train and why. I hope this topic will allow some constructive venting and better understanding and bridge some gaps.
  21. I think subconsciously the repeated exposure could be irritating yes.
  22. I am obviously a die hard BJJer. I find I often often get hyper defensive responses from many traditional martial artists. I have extensive knowledge in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu / Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Sambo, Wrestling and Judo. I only wish to be productive and helpful. So with that said what is it that erks you? I would like to hear some honest answers please.
  23. I use Tiger Claw and I'm in TN. I get everything next day and have had no issues. Been using them for 3 years now.
