Yeah, I haven't seen it a lot in UFC and I'm wondering if we'll see more. I bet more people will start to use it. In the examples they first set it up with low kicks and them BAM! -

Well, I've been watching UFC for a bit now and up to now haven't seen these attempted. They are new to me. I'm just wondering if they'll be used more. -

Jim,I think that was the best description of the difference between GJJ and BJJ. I couldn't have said it better myself. -

I enjoy the videos and feel that I've learned a lot from them. I have about three other guys that I train with and try to run it as close to a school as we can. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it works for me. -

As a person who just started using them I can also agree that the instruction is very good. From what I read on their website the videos sent in for blue belts are reviewed by one of the instructors at the academy. Also, this is the same material pepole go through to get a blue belt at the Gracie academy, so he in my opinion does have a Gracie blue belt. It's when you start the Master's cycle (Blue belt and beyond) that is when you are encouraged to grapple more and you learn more advanced techniques. -
Rank stripes on Black Belt Like or dislike?
Dobie1979 replied to IcemanSK's topic in Equipment and Gear
I'm joing this converstion late, but within ones own dojo I see no problem with it. If you were going to a seminar then i would rock the plain black belt. I find it no different than the color of belts from white to black. It is a sign of accomplishment and I would be proud to have my Dan stripes on my belt. -
Today I made the jump from Karate to Japanese Ju Jitsu. I never realized how bad those joint locks really hurt. I had fun trying out the techniques and having them done on myself. I see how effective they can be. The first day was great looking forward to increaseing my joint flexabilty and pain tolerence .

I've never been to fond of this honor your master thing, I don't think I'd call anyone master. Not that I'm arrogant, but I don't think anyone should be called master. If you are learning from someone that wants to be called master than he/she isn't a real teacher.

I guess I'm really selfish... I only care about me and my training. As for the whole McDojo term, I find it utterly annoying.

It is cool to know that we are taking a similar path. I'm looking for as many seminars that I can go to. I just want to get as much information I can about the art of Jiu Jitsu. Right now on-line is my only option. Since everything is MMA around here there doesn't seem to be a true BJJ school here. -

Update! I've been training for two months now with the online school. I really enjoy it I have a few different training partners who have extended backgrounds in jiu jitsu and mma. I feel that I'm getting a lot out of it and the instruction suits me well. -

Nice, that was a cool video. I hope to move as good as you. At the end they kind of put you in a choke using your old belt. Is that some kind of ritual? Anyways, congrats! -

How was it? I am also curious what they put you through. Where do you train? -
I hope I don't have anything to prove, though I understand what you are trying to say. Other than that, thanks for all of the advice! I'll try to keep this all in mind and in perspective and I'm sure it'll take some time to get used to. I think I can handle it though. I'm five out of seven kids in my family and with around fifteen nieces and nephews, ranging from newbie to 16 I think I have experience dealing with children.

Went to class like another day. My sensei pulls me to the side and asked if I would be interested in helping out in the kids classes. He told me that him and the other instructors were talking and my name came up. I didn't think that I was doing anything to get a honor like this. I just go and work hard. I think I'm going to do it. I find it to be one heck of a honor and am pretty excited about it. I just thought that I would share. Peace!

I really enjoy the Naihanshi katas. I really enjoy the strikes. Though, now that I am learning Pinan Yon Dan I really enjoy the movements from one move to another.

I'm at the point of my MA career (1 year) that I feel I'm getting comfortable in my own body. When I first started the kata movements and drills were very awkward for me. Now everything is just starting to click. Now this is a great feeling.

Not to be argumentative but to be good at striking you need a partner. Other wise you may just teach yourself to look pretty punching a bag or the air. To be good at any martial art you need partners and a good coach. I was waiting to hear from you. You have tons of knowledge in Jiu Jitsu and wanted to see your take.Thanks.
