  1. I say see a doctor, avoid Chiropractic
  2. It is good conversation to put forth for good opposing discussion
  3. May I ask, how does this isolate and focus on the forearms?
  4. I once taught a physician, who related the Kiai, as a babies' first breath of air outside the mother.
  5. The pressure for Kiai, was to make sure we had confidence and were not shy to perform. I guess the basis was if one was to study a martial art, then one should dispell any common type of inner fear. Decades ago, I actually stumbled upon the gong, among other collectibles, while helping a friend clean, organize a huge storage warehouse that his family owned. There were so much stuff in there, even crated, when I saw the first Raiders-Indiana Jones movie, the ending scene with the warehouse with crates and the Ark, this reminded me of this family. This was a large, wealthy, political family, which owned the warehouse for the entire family. I didnt want pay for helping, I wanted stuff in there. I earned a lot of crazy and out of norm stuff from there.
  6. I am looking for the Colts to loose. They should have lost their last 4 games
  7. No, he didnt step on the toes with force. He kinda sneaked up on people, and then we kinda expected it, thus we would make sure to KIai loud, so we wouldnt be embarressed to be steped on, It was a iissue to either choose being embarassed by Kiai or foot step. Ear plugs.. I forgot the moms would start to bring these in and wear. Those kids and the gong was noisy. And they loved it. The gong was 4ft in diameter on a huge stand. Nothing like anyone has ever seend, except some type of movies. It sparked alot of curiousity and motivation.
  8. That was funny. One of mine asked of I could blow out a candle. He keep asking this for a few days. So I got a candle. When he had asked once more, I lit it and extringuished it out by blowing on it. He was so confused, I then quickly replied "Happy Birthday" He was confused even more.
  9. Today: Went bike riding with kid. Came home watch football. Sunday, day of rest.
  10. I can't tell from your post if you are for or against competition sparring or not. But, I will say that when you are being troubled by a certain aspect in competition, then learning how a specialist performs his trade is a very good way of helping to shore up a weakness. I am not against any type of sparring. What I am saying that if one is to spar another, they should not spar to the "their game" without thorough study and acquired skill.
  11. Moms are cool. My mom convinced my dad to put me into Judo as I had a disciplinary problem, mainly to fight. She was told via a friend, that martial arts could help. I remember when I was a teenager, living in a small town, there wasn't any schools actually in my town. The closest one was about 30 miles away. The mom of one of my friends told him that if a school ever opened up in town that he could sign up for classes. She figured the chances of a school opening up in a town of 2,000 people were slim to none. Then one actually opened up my freshman year of high school. He reminded her of her promise and fortunately for him, she felt obligated to hold her end of the promise. Unfortunately, my parents didn't let me sign up, so the start of my martial arts journey was still another decade away before I found the right opportunity, but I always thought that was a very funny story. Maybe, you should have tried the same "deal" as he had? It was hard for me as my dad had certain cultural prejudices back then. My mom, as sometimes, was able to convince him.
  12. I dont know if it help build my charecter either. Thougfh it had developed a better sense of mild temper for me.
  13. I had many chances to receive a "honorary belt" from other arts-org. I declined
  14. thanks a lot =] ....know all my stuff so nothing fears me now....I also think that it helps that I know alll the people in the dojo now and they are all very supportive plus I'm close to and very fond of both of our senseis and they are very fond of me so I don't have to feel so self - conscious now. A supportive group around me like we are a family was very helpful to me. (well a club of people in a dojo is a family.) So having friends/allies in the club really helped me too. One of my teachers used to step on our toes in order to scream louder. For my child class, I have a large gong. I tell them, if they desire to strike the gong, they have to KIai louder than it. No child has evered failed before the gong, as they all desire to strike it.
  15. I guess, you had studied etymology? From; http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?search=Corporal+punishment&searchmode=none corporal (adj.) "of or belonging to the body," late 14c., from O.Fr. corporal, from L. corporalis, from corpus (gen. corporis) "body"
  16. My point is, what one may come to know something, such as a "written translation, or set", to be that of bushido, for example. Isnt really the way it was intended or likewise be approached.
  17. Yall wanna know the strange thing about military who have to train "martial arts for kill-be killed" scenarios? Many freeze up despite their training and/or get killed anyway. In other words, no matter what training, one may have, when its their time, its their time. Because civilians do not have full access to great military weapons and training, doesnt mean we dont train effectively for what we are subjected to. Simply, military train to be against another military force. Civilians trained to be against another civilian. There is the obvious defintion of martial, in martial arts, but there is also the word arts, which take upon dfferent meanings-applications.
  18. Sounds like me, I gave all my bb swords, or the weapon-item of their choice. I gave away so many weapons and such, that if I had kept copies for myself, I would have to lease a storage facility.
  19. Pretty much the same as I was saying. Though does a org allow certain criteria to be overlooked, or light for the sake to have as many ranked people, in order to promote the org-art further?
  20. I consider "uncomfortable" different from "painful" though. Uncomfortable means I'm aware of it but I can block it out because it doesn't mean anything. Think of it as if you take a light punch from someone in the stomach. You know it hit, but it didn't do anything to hinder you from your own offense. Painful is where it gets recognized as something that is actually injuring you and you can't help but react to it. I agree. And the reaction of uncomfortable or pain tolerance varies upon each individual. The probable of it doing what one may think it should do, will have one to a rude awakening to how nearly it was impossible, and a waste of time, and could be their demise against one who has much experience with strong threholds. I put little faith into such "magic bullet", "little friends", pressure points from my expereince and observations.
  21. Grand post, Blade96. I often tell my students ot think of something they maybe afraid of, like spiders, snakes, etc. And then Kiai so loud that their voice would travel in hard sound waves. I tell them to imagine these sound waves moving to push away whatever fears them.
  22. Hey, I dont want to be misunderstood. We should resopect our teachers. Respect is earned and not taken just because of rank or projecton. This said, there must be a realization that no one has the total knowledge or the highest rank to which they should think, or project any manner of audacity.
  23. Hah!!! Very true! What did you get? At first, I got oriental vases and fans. Then it was statues like Buddha, deities, Samurai, and Geisha. Why coulldnt anyone give me a rare or expensive sword....
  24. Richard, I thank you were right from the start... slag did say.... What's my point? I've no point, I was just saying that you were right in what you said....earlier that is. Ok, I'm going to go back to my corner. If you go back and re-read the larger post, Slag, had not stated this in his post, which it was that I was responding . What you are quoting, is a follow up post he made. Anyway, I was confused on what he was saying, (at first), and he cleared it up for me. He did make a grand post.
  25. Interesting that there is mention of religious warriors. As there were/are many wars started in the name of religion, or such stimulated by, warrior may be antithetical to many religious ideals.
