corrupt judges
KickChick replied to Prodigy-Child's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Question: Why are tourney judges buried 12 feet deep when they die instead of the normal six feet? Answer: Because, deep down, they really are fair and impartial. -
Any of the traditional martial arts or contemporary fighting self defense combat styles that incorporate "impact training" in their routine I would say IMO , are pretty brutal. (I know I wouldn't want to undergo any of those methods of brutal training) Impact training is a series of physical exercises that condition your mind and body to withstand the trauma of kicks and blows. Impact training requires snapping impact and breaking impact to be administered to specific body parts, including the shoulders, back, chest, biceps, triceps, abdominals, thighs, and calves. A snapping impact shocks the head or body but does not fully penetrate it. A snapping blow usually makes a brisk, sharp cracking sound when it connects with its target. In contrast, breaking impact shocks and moves the head or body. It can easily break or fracture bones because it follows through its target. This has both physical and psychological purposes ... to prepare you to tolerate both types of impact in combat or on street. Now maybe someone who is more knowledgeable about this can answer this question for me....does Kung Fu (or what other ma) has this type of training i.e. groin striking and being whacked severely across back and shoulders??

Post Your Pics http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=182&start=435 As you can see by the amount of posts to this particular thread (Post your Pics) here in this forum .... THIS THREAD USED TO RULE HERE MANY MANY MONTHS AGO!!! WHAT HAPPENED FOLKS??? WE NOW HAVE A GREAT FEATURE... THE KARATEFORUMS PHOTO ALBUM!!! 18 months and 5,000 TOPICS!!! WOO HOO ... curious as to who may have started the most topics???
-
yeah you definitely need the kind with the "loading dock" ... so that it always remains powered up ...(although it has a lithium battery in it when you forget too!) Talk about battery eaters! I am dreading this Christmas.... seems everyone buys my little one something that needs X-amount of some X-type battery!!!! I steer clear of giving those type of toys .... I am famous for giving kids useful gifts like those sweet sounding power laser guns and what about those rhythmic drums and cymbals!!

Hey no problem.... That is what is so darn great about this forum ... you never (ever) stop learning! It is such an eye opener ! Yes that second link was about Self Defense/knife fighting thread ... http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=5008&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 There are some awesome combat-related styles and self defense training courses out there .. and I would truly suggest that every martial artist take at least one course or workshop on close quarter self defense or a CDT workshop. In fact I am doing one this weekend! As a woman....true, some of them might be too hardcore.... but look at Krav Maga ... alot of females involved (maybe thanks to J-Lo) ... hmm...maybe "shootfighting" is next!

For women and MATURE, health knowledgable people....
KickChick replied to three60roundhouse's topic in Health and Fitness
Ok.... I'm a woman, mature and I have 30 years experience with this "type" of occurence! sooo... all I can say is that youre having an irregular period can also be the result of a hormonal imbalance quite common in the teenage years. The best way that you can find this out is to be evaluated by your doctor. If you continue to have irregular periods for longer than three months, you should probably make an appointment with your gynecologist. You may have one of two types of hormonal problems. The first type happens when you have too much of a certain kind of male hormone. This hormone usually comes from the ovary and occasionally comes from the adrenal gland, which sits in the kidney. Since men do not menstruate (wouldn't it be sweet justice if they did? ), too much of this hormone will obviously cause your periods to become irregular or even stop. The second type of hormonal problem occurs when your body literally gets its signals crossed in coordinating the menstrual cycle. The hypothalamus, is an area of the brain that regulates your menstrual cycles with regular pulses of hormones... and there are many factors that can interfere with your cycle. Stress, excessive exercise, diet, narcotics and weight loss can all contribute to this decrease in hormonal activity. While reducing stress, eating right and maintaining a normal body weight can restore normal menstrual cycles in females, some may need medication (hormones) replacement As chh suggested anemia can cause amenorrhoea (technical term for absense of periods) Similarly, emotional upsets or depression can upset hormonal imbalance and cause amenorrhoea. The regularity of periods can also occur due to strain and stress. The hormonal balance can be thrown off too by if a rigorous training or exercise or quick weight loss. But as a rule of thumb...A doctor should be consulted if the periods get delayed by more than 15 days. If you notice any discomfort or pain in breasts, increased frequency of urination, unusual tiredness and nausea and/or vomiting, .... well then you know what's up! Check back ... and good luck... -
Healthy Eating Tips for those never home
KickChick replied to three60roundhouse's topic in Health and Fitness
Good points Jack! Diet should not be just about putting weight on or taking weight off .... you also have to eat nutritiously in order to be able to feed those brain cells for both school and work..... feed your muscles ... and to maintain your metabolism for the energy you require for throughout your day! Breakfast is truly important! I am not a big breakfast eater and neither are my two teenagers... my little one still has time for FRUIT LOOPS! What I do for them as they are rushing out the door is hand them a protein bar or Slimfast bar and a bottle of water or juice (or they will get a bagel & cream cheese at school...actually better nutritiously then a muffin!) School cafeteria selections are horrific, (but they are getting better!) They should have salads & soups on the menu and any type of sandwich with chicken/tuna is the way to go rather than cheeseburgers or pizza. If the cafe is sooooo bad... do make a lunch and bring! (pressed for time?.. make before bedtime --- just don't forget it in the morning!) Also take VITAMINS ...... a good multi for when you are not eating properly.... Pack some protein bars/meal replacement bars, or one of those "shaker mugs with a cap" ...put in a scoop of protein powder and drop it in your purse. You can later add milk or water shake it up and presto instant protein and the feeling of fullness and instant energy! Lots of small meals is the way to go Shootfighter if you need to gain weight.... just make sure when you are taking in those extra calories that they are not "empty" calories .... let them benefit you in some way .... (meaning greasy cheeseburgers, fries, candy etc.) Make sure you eat dinner at a resonable hour..... eating too late gives you less time to burn off the calories you have taken in .... I never eat past 7:00 .... just drink! -
why did you start in the MA's?
KickChick replied to Shootfighter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes indeed a good question.... one that has been asked..... and asked.... and asked..... many times before here on the forum! There are many existing threads here in the General Arts forum....so I am closing this particular thread. So let's continue your posts here.... http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=4123 -
Hey no problem ramymensa .... There are far too many martial arts out there that even here in the US we are unacquainted with! Now Delta? hmmm ... not sure what that could be. Possibly a fighting hybrid style Shootfighting is the style of Bart Vale, and the name is a registered trademark. His website is: http://www.2shoot.com/

Hey Welcome to KarateForums Shootfighter! Actually shootfighting is not "outcasted" here on KarateForums as you can see from these threads.... http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4908 http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5046 http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=499 Maybe you can add some of your own insight on the "style" here!

Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan
KickChick replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I was doing some reading and Jackie explains it best! Bruce kicks high, I kick lower; Bruce was serious, I'm comedy, Jackie is Jackie and Bruce is Bruce. Its a different style of approach. ---Jackie Chan -

Y'know ... I am not mad in the least! I totally agree with you on that. Now perfect for one person is not perfect for another ... and honestly I detest a "perfect" person .... 'specially if they are perfecter than me! But seriously .."perfect" male/female in this sense is really what is "perfect" for you... what you find attracts you to a person, whether they be perfect in another person's eyes or not... in yours you hope they remain! And talk about how women change their minds... I am one of them but actually more to the point of not being able to make my mind up (to make a choice!)

On Nov. 25-26, the IOC is scheduled to consider a proposal for dropping baseball, softball and modern pentathlon to open the way for new events in 2008 summer Olympics. It is unclear when a decision will be made, but if officials add some new sports, contenders could include golf, seven-a-side rugby and considering ..... wushu (may stand a chance given that Beijing will be hosting the 2008 Games. But critics fear putting wushu in the Olympics could water down its spirit and diversity. The standardized rules and scoring could make it look more like Chinese opera than traditional combat art! Critics also say it wouldn't leave room for all of wushu's more than 100 variations, which employ about 30 kinds of weapons, including spears, swords, axes, hammers and hooks. Jet Li said it best ..... "The most beautiful things in martial arts are not about sport, and they're not about speed".

Who wants to be an MA news writer?
KickChick replied to Patrick's topic in KarateForums.com Announcements
"okokok Patrick stop twisting my arm"!!! ... Just kidding,,,, actually y'know by now that I love to write ... so pick a day any day 'cept Sun or Mon ... So that leaves Wed. Thurs or Fri. Can I have Fridays??? TGIF and all that!! -
I am??!!! .... sorry, I try but I couldn't really decipher what it was (is it a groin pull or not?) Several different groups of muscles attach to the groin area. The flexor muscles bend the hip, the adductor muscles bring one leg in against the other, and the rotator muscles bring the knee across the opposite leg. To figure out just which muscle is causing you the pain, you must find out which motion brings on the pain. SO it seems to be the crescent kick eh?? well, that doesn't really narrow down the possibilities so here goes with some advice..... You really have to rest a groin pull for several days and then begin a gentle stretching program. As always, the best prevention is a good stretching program before and after activity. I think you probably didn't stretch significantly. If you happen to get groin pulls often, then obviously you need to stretch that certain area a bit more! If you aren't quite sure just what muscle is in pain then here goes.... If it is the flexor muscles, do a hip extension exercise. If it is the adductor muscles, do a side straddle stretch. The rotator muscles respond to a yoga lotus stretch. ... and go slowly... gradual stretching!

As previously posted .... Just look at what the IOC has done with TKD and Judo. I'm afraid Karate will inevitably suffer the same fate ... ah but if what thai_kick says is correct and the IOC is allowing full contact for demonstration , well, that is for demonstration only.... will they change the "rules" across the board? Karate just might end up as Tae Kwon do has ... we traditionalists on one side trying to explain our art and the Olympic practitioners on the other adding to the misconceptions of TKD.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think I'll get that for him for Christmas! Also the G3 Live sounds pretty awesome too! Haven't seen any bands since the Stones but rumor has it that Zeppelin might get together ... truly one of my all time favs!!! Just waiting to hear now!
-
Really difficult to say what it could possibly be without knowing "where" the pain is being felt...whether it is only when you raise your knee .... and whether you noticed this immediately following training or days later. So all in all, If I were you.... (and something similar has happened once before) go have it checked out by a doctor. Follow the usual "RICE" procedure until then.

Yes, well depending on what you are looking for (you did say ITF -style?) Yes, I remember mentioning that site somewhere to Blue ..(it is a good one for WTF-ers) Anything else you are looking for that wasn't covered??
-
Wow .... in a matter of a couple months since you wrote that, you found "him"?? If age isn't a problem for either one of you than it isn't a problem! Good luck and remember "nobody's perfect" ... ENJOY your time together!

... a "dan" for each child (I hadn't thought of that !) It is entirely possible that I will "try" for 3rd dan (body & mind willing that is!) and that would be at least 145 weeks according to the amount of lessons I have to go. So I'd say 3 years if I can at that time fulfill the requirements. Physically if I cannot because of my age I will be more than happy to "bow" out at 2nd dan! But thank you ramymensa ... they are lovely and they all know tae kwon do also which makes them even more special!
