  1. Just thought maybe someone here may want a new career! Actually, this French "circus" is probably realizing the success of the Wheel of Life by incorporating martial arts. If you have ever seen any of the shows ... many of the acrobatics are truly awesome. Would love to see capoeira and yes,..... some "flashy TKD kicks!!
  2. ... before the marriage I was a Raiders fan..... after marriage became a Giants fan. And because the Giants aren't in it this year (and should have been! ) I am going with the Raiders .... the Raiders "threesome" are gonna blow the Bucs away!! ... at least I'm betting on it!
  3. http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/otn/violent/dark2.gif ...hey no fair!.... some of us have had more experience then others!!! Let's keep the teams as equal as we can! Yup, fun indeed!!!!!
  4. ... ain't that the truth! BTW ... love your lessons learned Cheeky! Here's one --- I've learned that whenever I am in a hurry to get somewhere in the car, I usually find myself behind the world's worst drivers! --- lesson to be learned? "Don't be in such a hurry!"
  5. Welcome BigOrange Sam ... just give a yell and I'll help you out anyway that I can!
  6. Yes, squats, lunges and standing in horsestance was mentioned on the thread link I provided above. (among some other good tips!) Also, don't forget plyometrics. Skipping in long high bounds for 100 meters or more is excellent for the quadriceps (the leg's primary kicking muscle). Kangaroo hopping with the feet together for 50 meters or more is a good exercise for the ankles, calves and quadriceps. Springing knee touches, used by many judoka, are excellent leg workouts(latic acid build ups), but must be done carefully to prevent knee injuries. Do these on a mat, and not on a hard surface. Start by kneeling on one knee with your hands clasped behind your head. Jump high into the air, switching your legs so that you first land on your toes and then sink down low into a kneeling position on your opposite knee. Don't land on the knee directly! An old Hapkido leg exercise is called silent leaping. You begin in a a stance shoulder width apart jumping as high as you can trying to touch your knees to your chest. Land with your feet wide apart and knees bent with body low so that the shock of landing is absorbed.
  7. That is very interesting John. Although our school does follow the ITF forms ... we have been following forms as instructed by the ITU (union) and as shown in the book The Complete Tae Kwon Do Hyung by Hee Il. Cho I am curious as to how the ITF communicates these "changes" to the various schools worldwide and how this effects advancement. Are you then required to learn this "new way" of performing Chon-ji? ... and why the change? I do believe I understand what you are referring with chambering the punch .... as you are stepping in from the low block, are you bringing fist tucked into armpit with elbow thrusted back and then executing your mid-punch rather than chambering at the hip?
  8. http://jeeptalk.org/crack/smilies/ups/pezhed/duckie.gif ... heehee (not to go off topic) ..... but, KarateMom posted this early last year. Just wondering how her sparring is coming along
  9. You ask for leg "exercises" ... to develop strength & endurance? Check out prior threads here: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=4947 ... depending on whether or not ou have weight equipment/machines/cables and or resistance bands.... I could offer you more suggestions once I determine your goals.
  10. Worked for me ... thanks Mike! Just recently I've been doing something slightly different when doing my dumbbell exercises. In order to reduce the momentum of using more than just your arms to lift (swaying the back and using shoulders) try this! Stand against a wall .... placing butt, back and back of arms to elbow against wall. Place dumbbells (I use 10 lbs.) in hand with palms facing inward and lift keeping body up against the wall and also lifting weights up to shoulder but without taking elbows off wall. Really concentrates on the biceps and you will find that you won't be doing as many reps.
  11. Just going through some of the threads here in the General Martial Arts & Health/Fitness forums may give you some info Here are a few threads for starters! http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=5018 http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=4895 http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=4708

  13. http://www.karateforums.com/faq.php#12 In general you cannot directly change the wording of any rank (ranks appear below your username in topics and on your profile depending on the style used). Most boards use ranks to indicate the number of posts you have made (hence you are now a white belt) and to identify certain users, e.g. moderators and administrators may have a special rank. Please do not abuse the board by posting unnecessarily just to increase your rank, you will probably find the moderator or administrator will simply lower your post count. You can post your "real" belt rank in your "sig" and also in your profile. Thank you for joining KarateForums!

  15. "This new show is based on movement and performance, and will feature acrobatic dance, martial arts, puppets, music, singing and Cirque du Soleils acrobatic savoir-faire and will illustrate the battle that life forces us to wage against ourselves." Have you ever wanted to run away and join the circus? ... but you aren't the bearded lady, a midget or the world's strongest man??? You say you're a "martial artist"? Well you can now join the circus ... well at least the Cirque du Soleil http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/NR/exeres/00009ea4oslnkkyoaixnunto/urgent_and_opening_details.asp?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2fCirqueDuSoleil%2fen%2fjobs%2fonstage%2fopening%2fMGM_martialarts%2ehtm&NRNODEGUID=%7b06B72D66-ADA7-4165-9033-566EC081DE1E%7d&NRQUERYTERMINATOR=1&cookie%5Ftest=1
  16. Because I haven't spent as much time as I used to here on KF, it had come to attention (and also by other members pointing out to me) that the "about staff" page was "missing" 4 names. No I don't find that humorous in the least. Patrick:"Girls vs. Guys is indeed an interesting idea and I want to hear more people's opinion on it. " I am glad that you think so ....
  17. A nutrient database can now be downloaded for free for PDA users on the PALM OS platform. You can now have the carbs, fat, protein, vitamin and mineral content for 6,000 foods in the palm of your hand http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/
  18. Is there is enough staff members now to play (??)-- staff vs. members

  21. Oh Yeah? http://64.207.13.28/mysmilies/contrib/ruinkai/smashfreakB.gif Hey Kensai it was just an idea in keeping with the current Survivor show... see? I know when someone is beng humorous!!
  22. Well, it is the goal of Chang Ung to gain recognition of the IOC for the ITF and to negotiate with the WTF for participation of its members in the 2004 games in Greece .... and to eventually unite the ITF and WTF. Dr. Yong Kim (pres. of WTF) agreed that the WTF should support the ITF's participation in the Olympics.... (so this may be the first step).... There is a famous Korean quote : "impossible is not a Korean word". Bear in mind Kirves that the videos are from a "demonstration" ... merely to be impressive (as I believe it was you cannot deny that fact)... They can kick "high" .. because they "can"
  23. How about "female tribe" versus "male tribe" ... just like the next Survivor show? ... or are you guys afraid to lose?
