Defence
Ironberg replied to cross's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
They're commonly refered to as counters. It is not an easy discipline to measure or acquire - you need more than just hours of strenuous training, you also strong muscle memory and a good partner. It can take a relatively short amount of time to be an offensive fighter, but for that fighter to acquire countering defensive drills it takes many many years. -
Well, I applied, and I don't graduate from high school until June - so I'm out of their picture. Oh well, I'll just be content slicing and dicing chickens, etc. in the Deli.

Howdy, I'm looking for a job to fill me over until college comes around. I've already been hired as a Deli worker/cashier at a local supermarket. However, I recently have seen an add in the papers for a security officer. You need to be 18 (yes), and have a clean background (yep). The job pays much better, and is an all nighter position on about one or two days of the week. Anyone else here a security officer - or was? Do you basically spend most of your time making sure doors are closed, checking alarm systems, and patroling the premisis?

If I were in your shoes and had the opportunity to study Muay Thai - I'd go for it. However, I'm not in your shoes, and the nearest Muay Thai gym is about a six hour drive.

unusual knee injury.
Ironberg replied to zerolimitii's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Ouch! Firstly, it would posibly be helpful to know where the pain resides. Is it from hyper-extension? Did you put too much pressure on one of the sides of the knee. My first guess would be hyperextension, and if it isn't serious then I suggest that you ice it, wrap it, and heat it, and slowely but surely work it back to full health. If it is serious then see a doctor (but few of us can afford that). -
I'm leaving in an hour for my first test!!!

Confidence building is definately one of the pluses of studying MA. Congrats again. -
Amen! I'll have to say that I've been fortunate, and have never come across any prejudice or racism in the dojo. It's one of the most friendly places in my mind (that is, until some unlucky, uncontroled technique lands in sparring).

Howdy from someone who had to like in the UK for a number of years. Because of that they won't let me give blood, cuz they're afraid I'll give 'em mad cow disease - of all the pathetic bull****. Anyways, welcome again. MOOOOOO!

Hey! Where part do my Norwegian ancestors play in all this - hapless bystanders?

Now if the Wing Chun guy has been doing it for about four years, or has possibly cross trained - I'd put the money on the WC guy. Let us know what happens.

TKD vs. Savate
Ironberg replied to Ironberg's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Hey, that's why I'm here - to get facts straight. Thanks for the post. -
Pushups (clapping, fist, and fingertip). Heavybag (stamina, technique, and coordination). elevated leg raisers (back off the floor). #1 exercise Contact Sparring (stamina, technique, and timing, and speed).

Anyone know where I can get any of Bill Wallace's fights on tape?

Fifty bucks on the Muay Thai guy for me. Jokes aside, my statement I just made will probably not be taken lightly. It's not that I think Wing Chun is ineffective, it's just that the LEARNING CURVE takes longer than a year to develope proficiency in that form of traditional art.

Close grappling is usually what defeats long guys like myself (however, I don't know what this bully knows). I know cuz, I'm 6'4'' and have been practising my art for a long time. Don't try to tackle him with strength, try to knock him silly in the face with elbows, knee him in the groin, or grab and fishhook his sensitive regions. Become so angry inside the next time he assaults you, you feel like you could tear the word apart- and turn on him. Big jerks like this do not deserve to be spared such wrath. Fight back.
