  1. Not this year. Be save and enjoy the tournament as well as the sights.
  2. Who says it has to be a combo?? Well, first let me wipe the egg off my face... I miss read the word "execution" as "combination"; old age, I suppose...I apologize!! Your punch in this video, having watched it once again, was solid; nice transfer of power...nice open/closed transition...and it wasn't too conserved at all.
  3. Our brains, huh?? We're in a world of hurt now. Efficient?? To a point, however, this fragile mortal coil can only take so much combat before it becomes fatal. Our bodies were thrown into combat involuntarily because of our brains' ineptness to act rationally against unwanted conflicts that we sometimes manufacture for mans own selfish unreasonable gains. The body dies sooner or later because that's how it's designed, and throwing combat at it, well, just lowers its shelf life. How can a body survive combat when the things that make combat what it is, and are meant to possibly destroy it. I acknowledge that the body can survive combat after it's been properly cared for by medical professionals, providing the body doesn't sustain fatal trauma to it. A tank is meant for combat...but it too can only take so much!! It too, can be fixed, unless the damage is way to much.
  4. Unyielding is far from it being unreasonable because unyielding is strict and unreasonable is impossible. "For your final part of your test, you'll stand directly in front of the dojo. I've placed a carton of milk behind the dojo. With your bow and 1 arrow, shoot that 1 arrow over the dojo's roof, and hit that carton of milk with your 1 arrow. If you are successful, you'll have passed the test. However, if you're not successful, then you'll have failed the test."
  5. I only saw a right straight punch; no combo!! Really, I can't judge what I don't see, especially with a 1 second video.
  6. Does one CHOOSE to be deadly or is the act deadly on it own through circumstances?? Can we stop our own actions of deadly force once we've choose to be deadly?? Adrenaline can be both good and bad.
  7. To the bold type above... That's a great point. Back in my earliest days, not many ever crossed trained, if anyone. I started to cross train when I was in high school. That's it...right there. Countless amount of MAist were pure to the style they were training in back then; loyal to that style, almost to a fault. How dare anyone outside of the style suggest that other styles are worthy to even consider. Purity, back then was sacred ground, and any other style was strict taboo.
  8. Kancho! I just turned 12 again... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanch%C5%8D Maybe that’s why some people use Kaicho instead? I’ll never read or hear the term Kancho the same way again. Yeah, I totally agree with ya' JR on both points. Our poor current Kancho, he'll just have to live with any misconceptions about his title...whew...glad that I'm Kaicho.
  9. Looked like a straight punch to me, no matter what your body's doing. This link might help you... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overhand_(boxing)
  10. To be deadly, one better be effective first, and foremost. Well intended actions are empty gestures to an determined attacker.
  11. Take a solid hit at your solar plexus, and see what happens. With all of the conditioning that I've done over 5 decades for combat, and it's a lot, after all, I train in an Okinawan style, hit me solidly in my solar plexus, I'm not going to be standing much, if at all. Just because I believe that I must prepare my body and mind for combat, and I do, that doesn't mean that my fragile body will survive any given attack. Stuff happens and the most inconvenient times.
  12. Yes, I could see that as being a drawback!! Don't want the Testing Cycle to be without challenges, just extremely difficult for the integrity of the Testing Cycle. If the Testing Cycle was super easy, what would that say for the Testing Cycle, and for the ranking system of that Governing Body or dojo/dojang??
  13. Kancho! I just turned 12 again... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanch%C5%8D LOL!! Kancho, depending on the Governing Body, means Head of the Style or President of the Governing Body or the Founder of the Style or whatever else. We use Kancho as our title for being the elected Vice-President of our Governing Body (SKKA), and Kaicho as our title for being the elected President of same Governing Body (SKKA).
  14. I don't imagine for one second that God designed us for combat because we're quite fragile, even though our body can take some abuse, depending on the degree that the abuse is. We have to wear PPE of all types to minimize any type of injury/trauma because our body isn't like petrified wood or some other invincible material. Vital points are all over our body, and if one of these vita points are struck, that's the end of the game. Some vital points, like the groin, take very little to wish one didn't have a groin. What injures the body can take, from looking at any outward injuries to the body, can be misleading, whereas someone might not think twice about it, "Oh, it's just a scratch/small bruise, I'll be fine", yet, what one sees on the outside just don't paint that exacting picture as far as what's happening to the body internally. Look at some of the ending results of many of the MMA fights, and what a fighter's body looks like at the end of the fight. They look like they were ran over by a truck again and again...and again; they don't look so good. If they look that on the outside, imagine what is happening internally. NFL players suffer concussions regularly, and that's not combat, that's just sport. Then there's the various injuries that are sustained at sports in general; broken bones, torn ligaments, contusions, and so on and so forth, and that's not combat either: Sports...fun things!! Combat, is severe, and can be quite fatal!! Combat is meant for the Man of Steel; Superman, not us, with our fragile mortal coil. Imho!!
  15. No one has read, seen, and/or heard about any unyielding/very difficult/near impossible/etc. Testing Cycles?? OK, with the hope to start a conversation, then tell us about the unyielding/very difficult/near impossible/etc. Testing Cycles of YOUR DOJO/DOJANG/GOVERNING BODY/etc, please. Thank you.
  16. Painfully? As in not good? Painfully, as in, I don't do good watching ANY MA movie and the like without treating the content as though it's a Testing Cycle, and not a movie...I STILL do that to Enter The Dragon. That's ingrained in me so very much, that I judge the content of said MA movie, and not enjoy the entertainment value that it might have.
  17. I watched the entire series, twice, for free. Key word - free. YouTube Red has a free 30 day trial period. I’ve got a few days to cancel before my account gets billed. There’s really nothing else to make me want to pay for a subscription. I thought the rest of the episodes were better than the first two. Thanks for the tip, JR; I just might further painfully further endure to watch the remaining episodes, then cancel it...I'll read the fine print before I do the 30 day trial period.
  18. Congrats, Wayofaswede; way to go!! You're half way there to Shodan; hopefully you'll continue training beyond Shodan, if not, that's cool too. Train hard, train well!!
  19. He's Kancho of the style that he founded; no idea of his MA background, other than this.
  20. I painfully watched episodes 1 & 2 for FREE on YouTube, NOT YouTube Red, with episode trailers. My favorite word...FREE!!
  21. What if it's NOT a marketing tool??
  22. An untold amount of well known MAists have either been expelled or resigned from well known Governing Body's for varied reasons. These actions have, in their own way, small or large, have all been game changers of their own right, in one way or another. From this link, there's these examples... https://www.karateforums.com/expulsion-vt38382.html Please note the 4th paragraph at the above link, as well as the Sources at the very bottom of same link.
  23. I was just reading where a MAist instructor has closed the doors of his school, and is now teaching out of his home dojo to a select few. He's a very strict screening process, which he points out, can't be done in a public dojo because he teaches a MA "that is very deadly", in which, he's afraid what he's teaching might end up in the wrong hands. He feels quite responsible in making sure that this deadly art stays out of the wrong hands. That's fine!! The term "I teach a MA that is very deadly" has always struck me as quite arrogant and such. Is it a marketing tool? Maybe!! Is it reality? Maybe!! Isn't the MA, every single MA on the planet, if done effectively, deadly?? Why is his MA more deadly than the rest?? If a MA IS deadly, than why ever mention it to anyone in any shape, way, and/or form?? For the "Oh's and ah's"?? Yeah, I suppose I need to get over myself because it's not that important...but whenever I hear that, I raise my eyes and my ears and shout... Good Grief Charlie Brown!! Deadly!?!? Hhhmmmmm...
