  1. One of the many things that our Sensei taught us in the regards of this topic, and this isn't meant to lessen anyone's methodology/ideology whatsoever, he'd say... "No care, just punch" Of course he didn't mean to punch anyway and anyhow, but to just punch effectively, no matter the final profile of ones fist. So, when in doubt, just punch.
  2. Most assuredly. Applications bring life to the movements. Really glad that you're back.
  3. Once again, thank you all; we're all a great team
  4. Thank you, Danielle and Devin!! Catching Brian?! Maybe if his keyboard were to cease to work or if his computer were to somehow fall into the bathtub or if any and all devices on the planet Earth that allow Brian the means to log into KF that exist were victims to a long term electromagnetic pulse or if aliens borrowed him, like they did in the movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and returned him later...I might catch up to Brian; after all, it's a worthy bucket list.
  5. Thank you to all who ever served!!
  6. Thank you, all, for your kind words and support for all of these years!! Here's to the future for all of us in the coming days and years.
  7. I watched it last night and I mean, I actually watched the movie without feeling like I was at a Testing Cycle; I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
  8. Yes, I notice the over-rotation of the elbow at its final position, no matter the level of the student, including Dan holders. This is due to the fact that the student hasn't matured yet as a MAist; that takes time, and time takes diligence, from both the student as well as the CI.
  9. Wow...me?? Well, son of a gun. Sure enough. The credit belongs to the countless KF members, who've, over the many years, gave us all a ton of topics to discuss, and it was great to be a part of it. Kobe Bryant once said, while he was watching one of his games with Spike Lee, "Man, I didn't realize I talk so much...". God willing, I'll keep talking so much for a long time to come. Thanks all!!
  10. I've not watched it yet, but I just might give it a try...IF I can watch the darn thing without treating it like a Testing Cycle...for just once!!
  11. In Shindokan, as in many other MA, we've the reverse, vertical, and closed punches. Of course, we've no preference one over another; each can be effective, depending on each practitioner, and not by said punch. Situations, as they vary, dictate to the practitioner as to what punch would be the most effective. However, that decision relies on the practitioners knowledge and experience as to exactly which punch to execute. No matter the choice, proper usage and focus of ones hip movement are critical. The reverse punch has no more power than a vertical or closed punch because of how much the fist turns towards its target; proper hip movements are everything in their separate execution. Whether it's close range or closing the gap, with no proper hip movement, the reverse, vertical, and close punch are no more than a push, and a push can't generate the necessary penetration at the target. Imho!!
  12. In Shindokan, we're STILL taught/teach as well as being constantly reminded this daily, ever since I began in Shindokan in 1964... Study your opponent Study yourself Make a plan Carry the plan out One might say that this concept/methodology/ideology is one of Shindokan's staples; quite effective!! I've spoke about this concept from a Shindokan point of view many times here, one way or another, at KF.
  13. Welcome to KF, Wamp; glad that you're here!!

    Nukite

Nukite is one of those tools that truly depend on so many situations and the like; effectiveness depends on the practitioner, of course. Don't see it much, if at all, outside the dojo. Inside the dojo, well, it's trained on quite a lot for whatever the reason(s). After all, the Nukite is NOT only used as one might imagine as a spear strike, and only for that.
  15. That's part of the 101 ways to use Electric Tape; been using it for quite a very long time. I STILL get a smile when I apply it to a student obi because they've that puzzled look all over their face..."What's Sensei doing?!?!?!?!?"...priceless.
  16. Absolutely!! I enjoyed watching their couple Naihanchi; the couple that Naihanchi together, stays together!!
  17. Bulldawg wrote: I'm impartial as to the given venue one way or another, although I gravitate toward the dojo more than the outdoors because habits are hard to die.
  18. I/we allow our Student Body to train in other MA styles; we encourage it because not one style is infallible!! Cross training, imho, is an invaluable aspect of learning the MA. After all, this isn't yesteryears where that was deeply frowned against; being eclectic wasn't sought after by any students for the fear of repercussions from their instructor and/or the Governing Body. I was finally allowed to cross train in TKD in my high school days, but only after pestering my Sensei over and over and over, and when I had been a JBB for several years already. To even mention the likes of cross training was strictly prohibited, especially in Soke and Dai-Soke's presence, and never ever on the floor. Ever since then, I've crossed trained without any regrets, and if I can cross train, then by and by, so can my Student Body. Once our Governing Body saw the logic in cross training, they never ever said a word against that; to learn is to grow.
  19. I like that structure because are we, as instructors, answering to our Student Body's needs of effectiveness or the needs of rank?!?!
  20. Entirely?? No, not in a billion years because human beings want recognition, they are starved for it in some shape, way, and/or form. Gi and belts are badges oftentimes for both the wearer and the observer; the exclamation of ones own self-esteem, and the lack thereof.
  21. Divisions within the same lineage aren't anything new or surprising, not at all. Perhaps I'm bitter, but ego and money seems to me the root of all possible evils. Not everyone can be in charge of everything, no matter what they might think. Human beings don't get along right off the bat or it festers until scratching no longer serves a purpose across the board. Splinters and division can't always to avoided, and oftentimes, it serves for the good of all concerned. Go or stay or this or that...pick one and go with it. Lineage division will never end as long as human beings are involved. Imho.
  22. To Noah and Stephanie, I want to wish you both my most sincere congratulations on your up and coming wedding on October 24, 2020. May your wedding be something to always cherish and remember for all eternity, wishing you unending happiness my dears.
