    I feel bad

Sometimes, as an adult, we have to say "I'm sorry!" Whether it was your fault or whether it was his fault; to me, that's not the argument. Who's the adult and who is the child? We only have one chance to make a positive impression, and this time seems to have passed. Let it go, move forward and just train hard!! To move forward, someone's going to have to say "I'm sorry" first...why not you?! Control is important and it's also the key across the board...both for you and him. Respect begets respect!!
  2. Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. You could learn some science from Alchemy, but you'd be better off with a 5th grade science textbook. ROFL...Are you smarter than a 5th grader?! I know I'm not...LOL
  4. There was a time when I trained with our Soke, Judan and our Kiacho/Dai-Soke, Kudan/Judan daily before I opened my own dojo. Then, I would train with them 3 times a week. Then when I moved to Oklahoma, I'd train with them once every three months. Then, when I assumed the position of Kaicho/Chief Instructor of our Hombu, I trained with my Dai-Soke 4 times a week. Then that all ended when our Soke passed away, and then our Dai-Soke suffered a stroke, and then he passed away. I miss them so very much!!
  5. ROFL Looks like a good movie Patrick...I'll go see it.
  6. Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!!
  7. To the point....Yes. I've executed this very Bunkai and I've seen other karateka's at tournaments execute against a kick within their own Bunkai. At first, I denied it as a practical application, because I assumed with trial and error that it was almost impossible to catch a full power kick done at full speed. However, that was due to my own karate immaturity. Soon time tested efforts replaced my immaturity with maturity and I had few doubts, if any, of ever being able to catch a full power kick, but over the many years, I've grown to accept it as a practical application because it is possible to catch a full power kick at full speed within this particular Bunkai. It's no more unpractical as executing an Ippon Seoinage at either of these points of the Kanku sho either. Enjoy!!
  8. Pinch someones philtrum very hard to the unexpected person; you'll get the idea of basic pressure points. Pinch someones lower lip in the middle very hard to the unexpected person; you'll get the idea of basic pressure points. More even so, these two points open up a myriad of opportunities These two points, as an example, are 100% solid hits for me.
  9. Here's a look at the hands of Morio Higaonna Sensei, 10th Dan Goju-ryu... http://paulobartolo.com.br/galeria/index/13/okinawa__sensei_higaonna [Click on the far right photo to see an enlarged photo of his hands]
  10. Talk all you want, just as long as the talk is about what we're drilling, and we better be drilling with content. Idle chatter drives me goofy.
  11. Kata is done by...guess what?...kicking/punching/etc in the air! These same techniques, as executed in Kata, are done with power, or they should be, imho. In Kata, power must be felt in the execution of any said technique! If you're hurting yourself while kicking/punching/etc...then...you're doing 'it' wrong, imho!!
  12. McDojo's aren't the only culprit's in the chambered fist belief. Schools opened up by those "teacher's" with very limited knowledge or none across the board. McFakes, are equally guilty of teaching something that they've not even a minimum idea about.
  13. Rules favor the prepared!!
  14. You'll do fine with Pinan Shodan. It's not all that complex in its simplicity. Enjoy it!!
  15. Aahhh...why not? I would....if I wasn't such a big....CHICKEN!!
  16. Ali was fast. Bruce was fast. Mayweather's fast. Then there's... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUnqQxIERkM&feature=related
  17. I take water breaks while I'm working out. My students take water breaks during class. To hydrate is vitally important during class/training, and it's vitally important to hydrate before class/training. Whenever I do take a break, I avoid taking huge gulps of water, though, and avoid taking in too much water during a single break. Also, discuss your concerns with your Sensei, imho, it's not complaining to ask a simple question. However, it's complaining when your demanding. I can see no water breaks if the class lasts 45 minutes because the time training might only last for about 30 minutes, and surely, one can last that long before re-hydrating.
  18. She's TKD?! Watch out for their very deceptive kicks, and jam their kicks at every possible opportunity. Good luck!
  19. As instructor's, we can't go home and baby sit our students; it's up to them. Not every student, if any at all, will have the same drive and determination and dedication of their instructor(s). Sure, as an instructor it's frustrating, and it's enough to make an instructor pull her/his hair out by the hand fulls, but, it's up to them to do their part across the board. They don't want to practice! That's fine! We instructor's can tell, as you've already mentioned, who has and who hasn't practiced. It's ok! They don't have to practice, and I don't have to test them...and I won't. Not because they don't practice, but because their techniques aren't improving across the board. Our students have to want it!! Just as soon as they want it, they'll be a changed student. Some come around and some just don't want to. I tell my students that any practice is better than none at all, JUST AS LONG AS IT PRODUCTIVE AND SERIOUS!! After a short while, I'll counsel my students and I'll be point black with them and/or their parent(s), if they don't want to practice, then please don't waste my time anymore...quit...they've already quit in essence by not practicing. So...please just get off my floor!! Besides...PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!
