Thanks Patrick for all of the information. I didn't understand some of it, but that's ok...I'm a student of computer-do too. As far as the quality, when Jeffrey and I did a video chat yesterday...I thought the quality across the board was right on spot. What did you think Jeffrey? Yeah, Danielle, I saw that on Skype, but I've not as of yet used it, maybe I better, huh? I sure wouldn't hurt. Thanks Danielle and Patrick!!

Can't say as I recall it either, Bob. I do think I've heard of it before. Is that not "Hwarang Do" Close, but Hwarang Do translates into "The Way Of The Flowering Knights". However, I was a jbb when I first heard it and I could've replaced "Knights" with "Hand". Of course, there is the fact that I'm much older and my memory isn't what it use to be. Ah ok. Knew it had the flowering part in there. "Hwa"-something then Maybe "Hwa-Soo Do" as I think (correct me if I'm wrong) the "soo" part of Tang Soo Do and Kong Soo Do is "hand". Oooohhhh, I like that, and it bears on me to do some quick little research. Danielle, great point!!

Why do you have to belong to a style
sensei8 replied to Dobbersky's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I don't know, but, aren't we now possibly entering into some semantics over the word..."belong"? Semantics are akin to one not seeing the forest because of the trees. Also, couldn't the word "belong" in this thread be based on ones feelings? Just thinking out loud. -
In my opening post, I've just edited a sentence so that the sentence expressed my true feelings... Original sentence... "Other experts in his field could learn a lot from Patrick, and if I was to enter into that field, Patrick would be my first and last choice." Edited sentence... "Other experts in his field could learn a lot from Patrick, and if I was to enter into that field, Patrick would be my first and last choice to learn from."

Why do you have to belong to a style
sensei8 replied to Dobbersky's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Imho, whatever "it" is that one trains in at that moment, then that one is of "that" style. One can not practice the martial arts without belonging to "that" style(s). -
No matter the "hat" that I'm wearing...I've always trained quite a lot. Not because I have to, but because I want to... *When I ran my own dojo's: 6 days a week from 10am - 10pm. *When I became Kaicho/Chief Instructor of our Hombu: 6 days a week from 5am - 11pm. *When I briefly retired from our Hombu: 6 days a week, three times a day, NO SUNDAYS [Wife rule, not mine]. Morning: 5am - 7am, Afternoons: 11am - 2pm, Evenings before dinner: 5pm - 6pm *When I was re-elected Kaicho: When I was a home, I'd train 5 days a week from 12pm - 5pm. When I'm at the Hombu: 6 days a week from 5am - 11pm I suppose I'm cheating here. Why? There are a massive amount of times that I'm in a teaching mode. It's in between those classes I find the time to train, but for the most, I'm teaching. Still, I would train 5-6 days a week.

How can I not belong to a style(s)? -

Thanks Jay, I appreciate it. I'm glad to know that you really enjoyed the proof on the floor segment...it's something I live by. I felt that my guest spot was fine, even though I felt it a bit disjointed at times. That's probably because that was my very first live interview...I was pretty nervous. The LiveStream was pretty interesting and quite fun...I loved the entire experience. Thanks for sharing this, Bob. I think its great. I also enjoyed your explanation of "the proof is on the floor." I know you have an article on it, but an article can't relate the expressions one gives when actually speaking. And by the way, your interview was pretty good, I though. Thanks Brian! And you're right. It's one thing to read an article, but it can be something quite different when one hears the author of said article speak about it during a live interview, like mine. Retrospectively, I agree with you. I also thought the the interview was pretty good, minus my being so nervous I seemed to struggle to get out a simple word or sentence....sheech, I'm such a dork at times! Still, thanks Brian for conducting my interview, it was an honor!!

If I remember correctly, the number 9 is quite significant/important to the Korean's. It makes since that the ATA would honor that by having a 9 belt system.

Would You Like to Train Via Skype?
sensei8 replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I was also noticing that Skype has a business conference program that can hold up to 10 people. That's intense. I haven't found out its price yet. -
Danielle, That way to cool that you've got the tickets you wanted, and that you're going. I'm a twinged bit jealous! You're going to have so much fun there. Not only to see the Olympics, but to sight see all over London. Wait...I'm a twinged bit jealous...again. Just kidding...Have a lot of fun there.

Shindokan Lineage: Satunuku "Tode" Sakugawa (1733 - 1815) Sokon "Bushi" Matsumura (1797 - 1889) Anko Itosu (1830 - 1915) Shigekazu Ishikawa (1864 - 1959) (Shuri-te) Choshu Saitou (1865 - 1962) From Sakugawa Sensei DOWN to Saitou Sensei, I don't personally know if this is accurate or not for myself. Why? I wasn't there because I wasn't alive yet. However, I've got to trust and believe that my Soke and Dai-Soke are telling me the truth; and I do believe them. Just how many styles use the TOP THREE all of the time? A lot.

Thank you. I loved listening to you and hearing about the topics you addressed as well. Please don't get mad at me, but, I love your accent!

I just can't remember the style, I thought it was Tang Soo Do, but I doubt that, but the translation was... The Way Of The Flowering Hand Anyone ever hear of that one?

Would You Like to Train Via Skype?
sensei8 replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
WOW!! Jeff and I just finished a video call....and it was GREAT. Many, many more to come. Good thing about this venue....it doesn't take anything away from KF. And Danielle, martial artists, no matter the style and no matter the background, will still find a lot to talk about. So, please come aboard. Jeff and I talked about the weather, I introduced him to my wife and daughter, and of course...we talked about the martial arts. In that small time frame, we covered a wide gambit of several topics. Jeff and I were wondering if more than two can be one during a video call?!? If so, hold the phone, we could be having a kind of roundtable discussion...LIVE!! WOW!! I'm so excited!! So....right now I only have Jeff on my Skype contact list and if you're interested...please let me know your Skype ID or request and I'll accept you...or however this works. I'm still new to this but I have faith in everyone else at KF. -
Yeah, that was some pretty good stuff. I just hydrate and take it easy when the heat is winning the battle. Big factor imho...LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR BODY IS TELLING YOU ASAP!!

I wouldn't, unless approved by the head of the dojo in advance. I agree!! -
Would You Like to Train Via Skype?
sensei8 replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
But, what I see, is that having only the other persons Skype ID isn't enough to call and/or ?...I could be wrong! -
With the suggestion of Patrick, I'm beginning to like Skype more and more, especially once I learn all of what Skype can do and how easy it is to do. So... If you'd like to train together, then how about we trade our Skype ID's and then schedule a time to meet...TRAIN ON!! [Patrick, is this what you mean, and did I word this right?] Wait, I don't know where to find that....oopppssss. Patrick, do you mean my Skype name? If so, then My Skype ID is... sensei_8
