  1. Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!
  2. I've Dan bars, and I'm tired of defending what our Soke made law, as well as being ridiculed, directly/indirectly, for having them.
  3. Old gi=OK Wear old obi=Not OK [w/o approval]
  4. Yeah...I'm a guy...I still don't see anything wrong with the collar...what do I know?!!
  5. Can't sleep...please see your doctor...that's my advice to you. Good luck!!
  6. Rank will take care of itself when it's required of it to do so...not sooner and not later, but at the exact moment. No matter the rank, time isn't your enemy. No, It's your allied; the seeking of perfection takes no set time, it's forever. While we've tenure in our Dan ranks, those tenure's are minimums only!! Level of skill is only a part of ones rank; there's a plethora of elements that go into any rank.
  7. It's only been a year for you...you've just started to scratch the surface. How often are you sparring in your dojo? If you're not sparring that much in your dojo, then you're swimming up a waterfall. Spar often, until the wheels fall off and then some!! Spar, Spar, Spar, Spar, Spar, Spar, Spar, Spar, Spar, Spar, Spar, Spar... However, spar under the watchful eye of your Sensei!!
  8. How do you think pilots train? In a flight simulator!! So, to answer your question...yes!!
  9. It doesn't BOTHER me...it was a HYPOTHETICAL for discussion purposes.
  10. Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!
  11. While I've crossed trained in a wide variety of MA, I'm still a Shindokanist because it's my core style.
  12. I fully concur with both MasterPain and JusticeZero.
  13. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii31/sensei8_2008/089.jpg Btw, I'm the handsome one on the left. Yeah...Brian's handsome too. I've 6 patches on my Gi top, no patches on my Gi pants. Patch on my right shoulder is a America/Japan crossed at their poles Patch on my right chest is an oval Okinawan Karate; for our Kobudo Patch on my right bottom is our Karate-do patch Patch on my left chest is our style patch; Shindokan Patch on my left shoulder top is a Okinawa Country patch Patch on my left shoulder lower is a Okinawan shield For the longest, only the style patch was approved. One by one, our Soke would approve the remaining patches as you see in the photo above. I kind of got a kick out of when our patches made it into our By-Laws, down to the exact placement/location and the like, but I suppose that it meant something to our Soke to have [it] included so formally. PS...I forgot how to place the pic w/o the link for easier reference, sorry.
  14. No, you've not lost any of your internet credibility. While the UFC doesn't specifically prohibit the side kick, the UFC does prohibit kicks to certain targets and situations, I can only assume that the side kick isn't used as much in any MMA venue because the leg becomes a target for an easy grab if delivered in a lackadaisical manner. Again, the side kick in the right hands can be a quite damaging kick. Besides, not every MMA practitioner can deliver a side kick as great as Joe Lewis did in his heydays.
  15. Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!
  16. That's why I love how our Soke conducted any and all testing cycles...NO PREPARATION of any type. Come testing day, and you've been granted permission to test, you better know your syllabus and you better know it very well. Students, no matter rank, had to submit a request for testing, then, you were either denied or granted to attend the testing cycle. If you were a Hombu student, then Soke or Dai-Soke would grant/deny requests. If you were a student of a Shindokan dojo, your Sensei had to forward your request with your Sensei's recommendations attached to it for the Hombu to deny/request. No testing allowed without the expressive consent of the Hombu, no matter the rank!! That was then...and that is still how it's done.
  17. Good luck and let us know how it went!! Relax and have fun; let the rank take care of itself!!
  18. I've no networking of any type. I tried to start a FB page for our Hombu, but it blew up in my face because I've no idea how to start/maintain one, and I had zero support from the hierarchy of the Hombu. For years, we've tried to start a website but that was put back on the shelve and it doesn't look like it'll ever be completed.
  19. Good topic!! My moral compass is quite grounded. I don't allow myself to get in these type of situations in any shape, way, and/or form. I always have a 3rd party present; always have and always will. No office consultations with any students/parents without a 3rd party present. No students/parents allowed to my home without my wife there. I won't even answer my door if I'm alone. Besides, I don't allow the instructor/student maxims to ever be violated. Our Hombu does have some CCTV in key areas, and not in any inappropriate areas. Most of our CCTV covers the parking lots, every entrance/exit, the retail store, the lobby, every hallway, the trash can outside back, every training area, and the main dojo. What would I do? I'd fight it to prove my innocence with every bit of my being, I'd let the true facts speak for themselves. But once the damage is already done, doubt might still linger in such a way that I'd be tainted, and in that, no one would want to be around me. Guard myself from every possibility of any inappropriateness across the board!! Still, no matter what cautions I take, nothing I do can guarantee that I'd never be falsely accused of anything. Look, in the Shindokan circle, I'm quite well known; I'm in a high profile position, so I can't go about to and fro unnoticed at all times, it's not conducive of my position.
  20. No, I can always put a patch over a logo, unless the logo/advertisement is way to big to cover. I wear 6 patches, and I get your point sir.
  21. Complex? No. Effective? Yes. A well placed side kick to the legs could be quite damaging in many ways. The permitted kicks are for the safety of the competitors, and this I agree with. A well placed side kick could end a fighters career prematurely, whereas the permitted kicks aren't as debilitating as a well placed side kick. The permitted kicks are akin to a jab, therefore, not to break.
  22. To every true dad...Happy Fathers Day!!
  23. I like them, especially the yellowish one up front center. However, I dislike their brand being on the outside; I prefer the logo being on a label tag and there only!!
