  1. The one thing about finding music for Music Kata's is TIME LIMITS. Most music is longer than the time allowed.
  2. UNSU I can no longer do, in laypersons term, the big jump/kick/turn/land, due to an injury to my right knee when I was much younger.
  3. While Kata is an interpretation at best, it's an interpretation none the less. What looks like this and that, it's application(s) are something entirely different. That returning punch to ones side, as in kata, might be a movement of its own, and not a returning punch at all. Kata teaches transitions...these transitions, while they don't duplicate Kata movement(s) exactly, they are still transitions none the less. Transitions are the embodiment of movement. While movement(s) during Kumite do not imitate Kata movement(s), the understanding of transitional movement(s) are still there. I move not to move like my opponent, but to move effectively to and through my opponent. I want my movements to be like a thief in the night; unseen by my opponent!! Master the transitions and not the Kata/Kumite; it'll make all the world of a difference.
  4. Very nice MP across the board. Angling takes some guts because if ones not careful, one creates openings for ones opponent. Everything you did spoke to me TUITE set ups/closes....LOVED IT!!
  5. LOL, well you're the head of your style now, Bob! OSU! PS sorry about this past weekend- I was a dork and I thought I was online on skype, but I was offline! Yeah....that's still not sunk in me as of yet, even though it's been many years since Soke and Dai-Soke have passed away. Don't worry about the Skype thing, we'll attempt it again this weekend...Cool?
  6. I don't think that one can be too dedicated because that observation belongs solely to the observer(s) and not the practitioner.
  7. Oh boy...I did it again...I created another uninterested thread...SORRY!! :::Bag over my face:::
  8. Advice from assistant instructors should be taken seriously, however, the final authority comes from the Chief Instructor. Well, except in my case.
  9. Heidi, Greg did honor to your article...you would've been proud of all who attended both seminars; they were fully charged. I also so proud of Greg as well, he showed me why he's awesome at these type of things. Everyone who attended, and the room was full at both seminars, truly learned quite a lot across the board. We thank you Heidi from the bottom of our hearts!!
  10. What are techniques? Are they nothing more than empty spoken words? Are they lifelessness within a void? Techniques can only come to life with the help of a passionate and meaningful practitioner. One who can breathe life into any said technique(s). Technique(s) can't be encapsulated without discovery and/or research for its core effectiveness. As with any technique(s) that's viable and tangible, it must be nourished so that it has effective means and purposes. Any technique(s) will die away, to be swept away, and discarded if they are nothing more than empty words. Let the discussion begin.
  11. MAists, when they are younger, their range of movements are wide open. Then, as they become older, their range of movements become narrower. Then, as they become more advanced in age, their range of movements become quite compact. In each change to their range of movements, they never lose their core style; still effective...even more so. Their core, over the many decades, have only been dialed down, so to speak. Looking at the videos of the fore-fathers of the MA. For example, watch videos of Gichin Funakoshi, Hidetaka Nishiyama, and Morihei Ueshiba, to name just a few. If you study them closely enough, you'll begin to see their range of movements slowly become more narrower as the years pass to their finality when their compactness is more noted. Still the effective core still remains intact. Why should a MAist wait decades to achieve that compactness? They shouldn't! That compactness in range of movements is the essence of the MA. Everyone has witnessed the sweeping downward blocks by young black belts. Insomuch, we've also witnessed that same block as done by well seasoned black belts, however, that same block is no longer that wide sweeping motion; it's quite compact, much more short and powerful. That shore straight line is indeed the shortest/quickest path between two points. Chisel away, fine tune, and dial down the extra and unneeded motion now before age forces one to. That compactness IS at the center of every core of every MA!! Your thoughts...let the discussion begin.
  12. Wastelander, My feedback's only intent was to help and not to insult your Oyo in any shape, way, and/or form. It's YOUR Oyo Bunkai, and I respect that. Being you've just started to develop these applications, I know that it's a work in progress. Been there, done that...still!! I'm ashamed to have worded it the way in which I did. Possibly I should've said..."Might or might not work on me." I'm assuming a position that I do not possess...unbeatable. Please forgive me for my poor choice of phrases/wordings. Please give me no thoughts at all!!
  13. YES!! I wholeheartedly concur with straightblast...you're seeking your OWN truth, and that is admirable. It's your Oyo, and not mine...if it works for you, then again, who cares what I and/or anyone else might or might not think. Train on my friend!!
  14. The beauty of Oyo Bunkai is that the created application is of your own, in that, if the application works for you, then what I think about it might be mute. I didn't like either Bunkai from an effective viewpoint. The Bunkai of Anaku/Ananku: For me, anything after the first two opening techniques have appeared to be way to disjointed, especially in the flow. For me, it's an assumption that the third techniques, the hair grab and hammer strikes, would be that easy to reach their assumed conclusion because while you've blocked his punch, he's still quite capable of unleashing a variety of attacks/counter-attacks against you, which would possibly nullify your third techniques entirely. If, and only if, your third techniques are successful, and by successful I mean that you're opponent is injured/disabled enough to allow you to deliver your fourth technique, the knee strike to the stomach, effectively. For this fourth technique to work, your third techniques must prevent him from guarding his stomach, as he's already doing in the video. If you've success with techniques 1-4, then and only then might the fifth technique, pulling your opponent down to the floor, be effective. However, your footwork/posture/stance speaks against control of your opponent. Then on your sixth techniques, controlling your opponents left arm, after he's gotten back up, and then delivering a series of punches to his back. I don't see your opponent getting back up if techniques 1-5 are successful, and if your opponent is only down by his hands and knees, then possibly a more damaging kick to his face/head would be more effectively. I sure wouldn't bring my opponent back up onto his feet for two fleeted punches towards his back area. Chinto Bunkai: Technique one and two, into horse stance and escape. The posture isn't conducive enough to ensure the easing of the grip around you, and you're now quite prone to have your balance easily disrupted, meaning that your opponent might be able to throw you to the ground. Your method of releasing your opponents grip will not work that quite easily, imho, because while your right hand seems to aide your left hand quite well, against me, that wouldn't be enough to release my grip around your waist. Both movements with your left and right hand have to be very accurate across the board, and even with that, you're going to have to quickly come up with an effective counter to when I don't let go, and unleash my immediate counter after your attempts at your technique one and two. In that, technique two won't even unfold because, with me, your technique 1 already has you at a great disadvantage with me behind you. Technique three, reverse elbow strike to the face/head, imho, is a wild assumption that, while your opponent might be bent over/forward due to technique one, who's to say that your opponent won't have his face/head buried in your back to shield him from the possibility of technique three?!? If technique three is unsuccessful, techniques four, a throw aided by wrapping your right arm around your opponents neck, has no chance of conclusion, imho. However, if techniques 1-3 are successful, then technique four is quite solid and effective. Technique five, stomp to the face, is effective providing techniques 1-4 are successful. In closing, a resisting opponent will prove quite a challenge for you in both of your Bunkai, imho. For me, to many uncertainities exist. Do your presented Bunkai have possibilities? Yes, they do. Yet, some fine tuning will be required before I see them being quite effective against a resisting opponent. That's what I think.
  15. You lucked into a rarity.
  16. I think that that will work too.
  17. But you asked if you can fly a plane being awesome on a flight simulator. You didn't specify that parameter as being the only training. I assumed that you already had the needed training to fly said plane per the wording of your question.
  18. I was just thinking to myself... I outrank Greg, however, we're both Hachidans, with that, I therefore outrank the other remaining Hachidans as well, so, having said that... Is it my right/obligation, in the context of any formal training session, to issue push-ups for "punishment" to the other Hachidans?? Just asking for discussion... Oh, how do I outrank the other Hachidans? Tenure.
  19. You will, maybe not today, but you will. After all, I don't consider push-ups as a punishment; their an attitude adjusters plus they keep students in great shape.
