Congrats to JazzKicker; well deserved!! A Two-Time Honoree!! -
This picture was taken by one of the Radiation Techs, Jamie, at the end of my very first session. As of today, I've had 10 out of 28 sessions. That big round thing that's over my head is what delivers my Radiation Treatments. The treatments are aimed ONLY at my Prostate and not anywhere else, and surely not where that big round thing is aiming at in this picture. Again, that big round thing travels around my body twice but only after images are taken first.

I take my label off my obi or cover it up. To me, it's just a label of very little significance.

Thank you, Brian!! I've wondered why the sub wasn't punctual myself all day. I've already lost faith in the sub because if I can be there for my Radiation Therapy, than the sub can be there too. You see, no doctor in the office means NO TREATMENTS unless a doctor is in-house!! I wasn't the only patient that was there for their Radiation Therapy too.

Good thing there's a Senior Division!!

The last Radiation Therapy is June 30, 2022. What Radiation Therapy might follow after June 30th, hasn't been determined as of yet. No Radiation Therapy today!! Dr. Becker's on vacation this week in Kuai, HI. The Doctor that's scheduled to cover for Dr. Becker this week was a no-show this morning when I arrived; still an hour and a half away....not a good sign. Instead of showing up later today, I opted to show up my regular time tomorrow morning; hopefully that covering Doctor will be ON TIME FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK!! With this, that means that my last day of Radiation Therapy is now July 1, 2022.

Welcome to KF, raggedexpedous; glad that you're here!!

This is a very personal topic to everyone, and I believe that each person has their opinions regarding to this topic. With my underlying conditions, I just do whatever I have to do be protected from the Covid-19. The seriousness of Covid-19 is no joke, imho!! Training with a mask? No. Hard to breath with the darn thing on. Due to the closeness of MA training, social distancing is quite interesting. Did what was necessary per the CDC Rules. As far as Governing Bodies are concerned, the SKKA never ever once interfered with any network dojo's internal SOP whatsoever. Therefore, the SKKA never would've dictated to any network dojo regarding the Covid-19. Yes, the SKKA would've made itself available to support the dojos under their umbrella in any way that it could have. Vaccine's? I've had 4 vaccine's myself and will continue to do so per the instructions of any of my doctors. As far as students being vaccinated?? Can't force that issue on anyone.

Bunkai applications need to have resistant training especially for the MA student with less than 2 years on the floor. Without the serious resistance training for the MA student, a deep embedded sense of false security sets in. Even in ones entire MA journey beyond the initial 2 years on the floor, resistant training should be forever and a day. Learn the meat and potatoes of said Bunkai, then drown it with very serious resistance training because out on the streets might be way too late to find out that that which "worked" in the security of the MA school has failed tragically elsewhere. Imho.

Strategically I'd back up for only one reason, to try drawing my attacker closer to me. This works with only the gullible attackers and not the streetwise attacker. Understand, I don't knock anyone who goes backwards, it's just not in my DNA to do so unless strategy demands it.

My very first Radiation Therapy, which was done on May 23, 2022, at 8:30am by Dr. Michael Becker, Radiation Oncologist. So, this was the first of 28 Radiation Therapy sessions. My sessions are Monday-Friday at 8:30am; there was no session in observation of Memorial Day. First treatment lasted about 30 minutes, it entailed setting up the machine, which delivers my Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). The equipment is called Rapid Arc, well, that's the label that's on this specific equipment. Once the setup was completed, the Radiation Therapy lasts only 15 minutes. Not pictured are two large wing looking things that once employed on either side of me, the entire contraption rotates twice taking pictures of my insides. There's a very large round equipment that's right above my head, is what delivers my Radiation Therapy. It circles me twice, and the table that I'm lying on is very unique because that table doesn't block the treatment whatsoever. There's a low humming throughout the entire session. My feet are strapped together, and I hold a plastic ring to ensure that I don't move. So, once I lay down on the previously mentioned table, two Radiation Techs move my body this way and that way after I've pulled down my shorts, of which one of the Techs lay a modest coverage of my groin area. They push me this way and that way until I'm in the proper position. I've three tattoos on my skin...one on either side of my hips, and one center under my belly button by about 4 inches. These tattoos are known as Target Markers...they don't wash away because they've some type of tape that's right over each tattoo, and those tape appear to be stuck on me for life. I visit with Dr. Becker each Friday to discuss many things. When we talked last Friday, he addresses my concerns over the alleged L2, is only a typo per Dr. Goodman, my Medical Oncologist, of which Dr. Becker isn't concerned with at this time, he's concentrating on the Prostate only. After my 28th Radiation Therapy Session, he'll order an MRI to address my T12 and L4. Thus, so far, as of this update, I've completed 6 Radiation Therapy Sessions, with 22 more sessions to go. I've an unattractive picture of myself done right after the end of my very first session with me lying on top of that earlier described table...I just don't know how to add it to this post or if I want to.

Solid post!! As far as getting another trainer is concerned, I'll not be searching another trainer because I can't trust them at all.

I don't see very much Kung Fu influence in Karate at all. Whenever one sees the techniques of Kung Fu compared to Karate Techniques, for me, it's night and day.
-
Me neither!! It's just not in my DNA whatsoever. Albeit, it does occur whenever the moment arises, therefore, training it sure doesn't upset the horse and the cart. Even then, sidewards/angles are far more preferred over any backward motion...unless ones overwhelmed by the attacker advances.

Being a die-hard traditionalist who's extremely eclectic across the board will say this.... GO FOR IT!! Do whatever improves YOUR MA betterment and that YOU enjoy the most no matter what others might or might not ever say. No matter what IT is that you believe will benefit YOU, then by word, do it, and never look back. After all, it's YOUR decision and it's YOUR MA journey!!

Welcome to KF, Chalkdust22; glad that you're here. It's never too late to train in any Martial Art (MA) because the MA isn't dependent totally on the age of the practitioner. Sorry, I'll be of no help in your request. Perhaps, let your fingers do the walking on the internet and see what pops up per your request. Some Headquarter or Governing Body or the individual schools might be found. Personally, I don't know of any Kung Fu schools/Organizations personally in China or Taiwan. Good luck in your search, and please let us know if you're able to find what you're looking for.

21 years!! Of those 21 years, I've had the extreme pleasure to witness 14 magical years of growth here at KF on both the upside and the downside, but all of those years has made KF what it is now. The contributions past and present have helped to create what the future shall welcome eagerly. KF means more to me than words will ever say, but it's easy to say that without KF, I, too, wouldn't know what I'd do without KF in my life. Happy birthday, KF; here's to its bright future!! Thank you, Patrick!!

Is Kata beneficial? **To whom is it beneficial? OR **For what is it beneficial? In both cases, someone or something is receiving something beneficial/good. Either a person is or a thing is still benefitting whatever's needed. The phrase “beneficial to” answers “beneficial to whom?,” while “beneficial for” answers “beneficial for what?” Whatever the receiver benefits from Kata, TO or FOR, is the betterment one way or another, and I've no right to question the reason(s) no matter what they might be. The context is that which is beneficial "to" or "for" should always be allowed the opportunity of discovering said path of knowledge and experience, and shouldn't be swayed away from their own MA journey. Imho.
