I'd definately say it's a good thing, only because i have been one to have the rare things happen to me at very inconvenient times. So yes, i think its a good thing and yes, i do the same thing. No one's ever gotten killed from being over-prepared...under prepared on the other hand...

See a doctor because this could be due to: lack of proper nutrition to be lifting in the first place dehydration blood pressure issues other circulatory issues or many, more serious things im thinking blood pressure or dehydration. but i'd go see a doc or a trainer.

I understand what you are saying because i, myself, am a female. But i've always grown up with what my instructor calls 'a command presense' he's always told me, 'when you walk into a room, everyone knows it'. which is quite flattering and very nice of him to say. but i have to say, i usually don't have too much of a problem with people listening to me the first time, and i never have a problem with people listening to me the second time. I am a very athletic, tough 5'6" female...skinny but muscley. So, i am not as fortunate. I don't quite have that innocent look down yet.

How to get the certificate?
NewEnglands_KyoSa replied to Boris's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Yes, you'd need to find an organization or some sort of martial arts government structure that will be willing to promote the style and the people in it. -
Okinawan Kempo (Ryu Te) or Ed Parkers American Kenpo
NewEnglands_KyoSa replied to pama4242's topic in Karate
I do chinese kempo and i like it very very much. It makes a ridiculous amount of sense, all the theory and explanations...it just makes too much sense not to love it. -
Yes, that is very true. I don't think i have the time or patience to stand over them and watch...so congrats on that! Nor do i like the vision of me standing over a kid as they do push ups. I'm very careful with what i do because all the parents can see in, and lets just say i would not put it past all my parents to say that im being ridiculous, i don't have to make them repeat their crappy push ups, there's not need to stand over them, etc. and all that crap. granted i love most of the parents, some...ehhhh not so much. But i wouldn't say i completely don't use them, and i do keep a watchful eye as they do them, and they must count loudly in korean, which is half the battle.

Most Damaging Single Technique
NewEnglands_KyoSa replied to Johnlogic121's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
A nice side kick right to the heart would be pretty sweet. a chop to the left or right side of the throat, eye gouges are always devastating. chops and elbows to C-spine and/or t-spine are obviously devastasting. all of what i said was devastating but to pick the most would definately be the chop/elbow to c-spine/t-spine. -
ooo another aussie! Welcome!

No, i want kickboxing to stay right where it is, i've seen several bouts before and adding low kicks will only make it more like the UFC, and God knows we already have one of those. The kicking rule is good and almost got a guys disqualified if he didn't knock our guy out first. I think it's fairly popular, atleast where iam in NE it is.

I've had pretty good success in teaching children. I actually like teaching them better than the adults. I have had very poorly misbehaving children, adhd children, add children, and mentally disabled children. You have to tread lightly when punishing the mentally disabled ones, but you have to make it look like you're not treading lightly so they don't get insulted or so other kids don't notice. Usually the first time someone's being disruptive i usually say their name, and then say knock it off. or i address the class as a whole if a good portion of kids are doing it. sometimes i'll just stop all together and stare at them until they are finished and then proceed when they stop. This kind of brings an embarassing factor into for them without really truly embarassing them. I find that physical punishments usually don't work, because kids always make a half you-know-what attempt at everything it usually isnt as physically grueling as it's supposed to be. Every now and then i'll do push ups, but only when i know they'll work. I have had to sit kids in the corner before for being spoken to multiple times. I've never had to expel anyone or talk to parents, but i've been close, recently actually. I don't think many instructors have had to come to that.

I have had to take time off from PRACTICING my MAs since september due to my ankle injury and surgery. I will be back in three weeks. But all this time i've still be teaching my classes. I feel that a lot of my ability is gone, yes. But my memory has not failed me, i know all my forms just as well as i did. and as my muscle memory kicks it, it will become even easier.

Dojo Alcohol Policies
NewEnglands_KyoSa replied to Johnlogic121's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
That's very cool, i've never heard of something like that before. -
The spear hand is generally used to fleshy areas of the body and pressure points. Both my styles teach it, it's very simple to condition for it with different strikes and finger tip push ups, etc. I wouldn't use it all the time. Only when it applies. It can be devastating when used correctly.

Looks nice and kinda similar to one i do at my Kempo studio. Good control, hands seem in the right places. Nice. What did you place with that form, if you don't mind me asking?

Question for head instructors
NewEnglands_KyoSa replied to Sibylla's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Absolutely tell him why, but like i said previously very carefully and respectfull so you don't sound like you're leaving bitterly to spread bad things about him and his school. You also don't want to come off like you're telling him how to teach. But yes tell him why, and again, only tell him if you're actually leaving, if you say something about leaving, it seems like kind of a threat and if you never do it you may be viewed differently. and what i've read from your posts...word spreads fast and fearlessly through your dojo. -
Question for head instructors
NewEnglands_KyoSa replied to Sibylla's topic in Instructors and School Owners
You should only tell him if you are definately leaving. If you say what you said to me, hey im going to leave if things here don't shape up, he might see that as a threat. So only tell him, carefully, diplomatically, and respectfully if you ARE definately leaving. Good luck. -

Yea I know what you're saying bushido. I'm the stubborn always finish what you start type too. That and i can never let my boards get the best of me. -
That's a very good sign that you were using your center, your 'core' correctly. you were making precise correct movements and making them with much power. the pain is a good thing, not only does it make you know you're alive it also tells you you're doing your stuff right.

Dojo Alcohol Policies
NewEnglands_KyoSa replied to Johnlogic121's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We have a drinking policy but only if it affects your MA abilities or teaching abilities. we had an instructor come to class drunk to teach. luckily one of the seniors was there he took care of him but made sure he reamed him when he was sober. he made sure he got home safe and everything, and he taught his class for him. but he talked to him later about it and told him that if it became a habbit of coming to class that way first he'd lose his teaching title then he'd be kicked out if it got even worse. I think drinking policies are good but have to be set for the right reasons. aside from that we've never really had a problem. just don't come to class drunk, that's all we say. -

Knuckles are the worst, i've busted mine open on a punching bag(that's a long story as to why i wasn't wearing gloves, but it was justified). They are so hard to heal because you're constantly moving the darn things!
