shotochem Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Why would you possibly need to do a backflip in Shotokan Karate? Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
karate_woman Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 I'm not sure why you need to do a backflip either, but perhaps you should take a tumbling class or something? The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. -Lao-Tse
ninjanurse Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 The only move that requires you know a backflip is a backflip as far as I know. You should find a gymnastics coach to teach it to you porperly. In the meantime add some moves to your kata that don't involve backflips and add it later. There are plenty of flashy techniques out there! Looneyas Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 DONT try to learn a backflip on your own. this is a must, im a x gymnast and there are ways of learning to back flip and certin areas that need to be learnt before u even attempt a backflip. you must have flexible shoulders, and a perfect handstand. I would advise against learning a backflip as u will injure youre self, not if u will but YOU will. Go to a gynastic school and learn correct. GrrrArg Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Backflips couldn't have ANY conceivable use in a fight so why would you want to learn them at all (unless your a gymnast of course). You would leave yourself wide open to an attack whilst pulling one off-assuming you don't land on your head anyway:) Do you do Capeiroa (spelling???), because apparently they use back flips etc: but thats just as much dance as MA.
