Any of you injured because of practising martial arts?

Featured Replies

Hi. I am new here. I am a blue belt in WTF Taekwondo.

Have any of you been seriously injured because of martial arts? For example, torn ligament, fractures, etc. Share your experiences here.

Right now, I am at home nursing a left scrotal hematoma (which is as nasty as it sounds). I received it courtesy of a back thrust to the groin. I was admitted to the hospital, went through panels of doctors, an ultrasound scan, police interviews and finally discharge with a 3 week rest at home.

A word of advice to everyone here: A groin guard is really important. I have been through the pain and that is my experience.

This is my first time posting so I hope I don't offend anyone, especially if this has already been posted before. Still, share your experiences and thanks!

Sorry to hear about your damaged goods.

Welcome to the Forums.

I never had anything serious happen. Worst thing was probably a sprained shoulder.

It's happy hour somewhere in the world.

Sounds pretty nasty. I have actually seen very few injuries in the dojo. When we have students come in injured it is usually from basketball.
Im nursing a few strained Muscles, but thats due to home training not at the Dojo, I have recieved a broken big toe, Now that hurt like yesterday

Broken wrist while sparring :( Couple of groin pulls. I dunno for some reason your injury sounds worse. D-mn ! That must've hurt !
Cracked toe in Judo randori - this beginner was struggling so I decided to let him throw me. But he threw me while standing on my toe, part of which therefore tried to stay behind! Ouch!

Currently: Kickboxing and variants.

Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.

A sprained shoulder (the same I "took care" off when hit by a car and made to fly from the bicycle). I did the "good thing" while performing a kata (heian godan). I put too much passion :D

It hurts :bawling:

few sprains in my arm and leg, nothin really serious there. couple of bloody noses, ummm bruised rib. and 3 hard kicks to the groin

Hi Rhuarc .... Stop by Introductions and tell us more about yourself (besides your injuries!) I understand you're from Singapore. I am very familiar with the ITF TKD there but not with WTF (sorry) Please tell us more! I also answered your WTF forms question in the Korean Arts Forum. Looking forward to your posting there also.

Many more injury reports here:

Aw crud. I spoke too soon. Praticed falling techniques a little too much the other day and now I have rib subluxation. Hurts when I breath, sneeze, tie my shoes, anything that requires ab rotation. And I have a test in less than a week!

It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
