Safroot
Doctor said that I might've strained my lower back muscles, but doubts that I pinched a nerve because my pain doesn't radiate; it's in one local area. How can I have strained my back sleeping? Isn't sleeping the most relaxed state of the day/night?What's NSAID? What are the effects of that much Ibuprofen?Thank you for the advice!! Sensei8, first of all wish your back is getting better, secondly I completely agree with your doctor, if you pinched a nerve you will have this shooting pain radiating to you legs. Ibuprofen is a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) which is good for pain and inflammation, usually it's safe to take up to 2400mg daily (according to the Australian guidelines). for long term use it might affect your stomach, elevate your blood pressure or worsen your asthma (if you have) so it's always better to take it after food and check your blood pressure every now and again if you are going to use it long term.I guess you might ask your doctor to put you on a muscle relaxant as well if the problem is not relieved by Ibuprofen alone. That's my advice as a pharmacist and wish you get better soon "The Martial Arts begin with a point and end in a circle." sensei8
Thanks all!!I thought I was slowly progressing, but last night, no matter what I did, I couldn't get out of bed without sharp shooting pain to my lower back. Went to sleep on the floor, and that wasn't any better. I'm getting to the end of my rope!! I dread having to go to bed, no matter where that may be. I've had this happen to me before, but it went away on its own in less than 2 weeks. But...Going on 3 weeks is chronic and unbearable!Heat/Ice STILL?? Isn't my injury beyond all of the heat/ice?Oh well, I'll boo hoo no more!! **Proof is on the floor!!!

wayneshin
When it's been gone for that long painkillers are no longer the solution. You need to find out the cause. As we get older (I'm 51) our bodies recover slower but event a muscle strain should be improving by now. You need to go to a decent physiotherapist (I believe you call them physical therapists) and probably get some scans done.

Matt123
I feel for you, I have had lower back pain for years. 2 slipped discs and I also have sharp pains down the leg as well. Usually the left. The pain can be enough to sometimes put you down to a knee. Anyway what seems to work for me is doing bridges, (laying on your back with knees up and raise your pelvis.) I do a couple sets of 10-15. Also I started to do planking everyday. Usually about a minute maybe twice. Hope this maybe helps you out, it seems to be doing something for me, so I figure maybe it will do the same for you. Good luck.

sensei8
Went to Chiropractor this morning; things went fine. While I'm still not 100% yet, I'll be attempting to teach two classes: Intermediate children's class and a black belt class. I'll gauge myself during both classes to determine if I'm ready. I'll conduct the opening warm-ups, as I always do, and then go from there. That should give me an indication if my backs up to teaching. I don't and can't teach from a chair!! I'll have plenty of BB's to take over if my back acts up. **Proof is on the floor!!! mazzybear
Have you considered accupuncture? I know some folk dismiss it straight off, but my Uncle suffers from sciatica (he'd normally be the type to dismiss such things, but was at the end of his tether) and tried his first session last week. He said while the pain wasn't completely gone, it did help considerably and is going for his second session this week. Maybe if the physio route doesn't help you may cosider this.Hope you are pain free soon.M. Be water, my friend.
