thanks Kensai. how long have you been doing Aikido? -
my curiousity with Aikido has gotten the best of me. im not much into the spiritual stuff but i love the art. im the type of guy that loves to fight (but never starts them ) i think my main fascination with Aikido is just throwing people around. i love the fact that with little effort i could defend myself against a big muscle head (hopefully ) anyways, my point is that im gonna start looking for an Aikido school.

this is a little hard for me to word correctly so i'll try to describe the situation the best i can. i kickbox and grapple. i just recently quit both. i still practice and spar alot though. with the knowledge i already have, im working on being a self taught shootfighter. im planning on adding my own special touch to it to basicly make it my own kinda style (it wont really be a style, just what works for me and whatever else i add to it.) so what is the correct name for shootfighting? i've heard people call it Vale Tudo and other things. i'd seem a little silly if someone asks what my style is based from and i told them i didn't know the name of it.

the only weapon i know about is the sword and thats only because i've been working with one for a couple of years. so i guess i'd recommend the kama only because its sharp (if my memory is correct)

i do alot of bag work. i've also just started a calesthenics routine that's giving me a better work out than weight lifting. -

Aikido Strike.
Sid Vicious replied to Kensai's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
i cant seem to get the video to work. "Aikido strike" sounds funny. when i think of Aikido i think of throws and joint locks. i wish i could get the video to work. -
bag work, bag work, and more bag work. Sid

i wear contacts. i also compete full contact without taking them out. i've never had a problem with it yet. i've even gotten black eyes without them popping out or even moving. maybe i'm just lucky. Sid

i dont know if this has been discussed recently because i cant find anything like it. from what i've heard, aikido takes awhile to be able to use it for self defense. but im only 16 so i figure i have plenty of time to learn it before i'm old before i go into my questions i think i should say that i know everyone is different and learn at different paces so i just want an estimate please. how long until aikido is a very effective method of self-defense? i've heard that masters are basicly "untouchable" to most people, could that be true? thanks.

fighting a big guy

as soon as you close the gap dont forget to punch and go for some good body shots. but if you still have problems moving in, throw some good kicks. -
does anyone believe that theres such a thing as a "natural fighter"? this question has a little something to do with my next comment. first of all let me describe the situation: im 6'2" and weigh 145 lbs. (im a bean pole ) and i kickbox and just started shootfighting or vale tudo or whatever you wanna call it. i have kickboxed and beat someone who weighed 70 lbs. more than me. i have fought "no holds barred" and put two people on the ground at the same time. am i extremely lucky or do i just seem to know what im doing? i've noticed that most people have said that size doesn't matter in martial arts but i always thought it mattered in shootfighting and kickboxing.

to get bigger you have to lift heavy. your workout plan needs alot of improvement. only do a couple of different muscles each time. as far as reps are concerned, lifting heavy will give you the size you want. (my pecs went up 4 inches in just 6 weeks). i cant think of a good way to describe a good workout so i'll just tell you mine and you can see the basics. Mon Chest, Triceps Wed. Back, Biceps, Shoulders Fri. Legs, Abs Thats what works good for me. I'd recommend finding a trainer to help you get started properly.

me and my friends started a MMA tournament. we use the UFC rules and everyone signs an agreement before they fight that we're not liable for injurys. we are also watching all the fights to make sure noone gets hurt and we can stop the fight incase something happens. is there anything else i should do? sorry if this isn't the right forum for this but i consider it very combative. P.S : after a couple of fights (im undefeated ) alot of people are trying to get me to teach them to fight. (sorry about the last part, i just had a strong urge to brag )

SubmissionFighter, i understand and agree with what your saying about not being able to do something properly. But just remember tha "practise makes perfect". Sid

when i refer to the word "self taught" i dont mean someone who rented a black belt video and considered themself a black belt after watching it. with that being said lets get down to business. this i about the people who have done alot of practising using videos, books, and the internet. lets just say that they did everything in order and trained just like they would in a dojo. and after a couple of years went by they finally finished their black belt instructions. Would you consider them a black belt? Would you even consider them a martial artist?
