Agreed.. I know when they released Capcom VS SNK 2 for the ps2 3d fighters had already taken their hold and were doing well... but yet that game was still a blast. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some more old 2d fighters. However, the new Tekken and Soul Calibur both look like their going to be pretty solid games...

And is the part I'm interested in.. haha figures that is just my luck! Oh well, i still have Karate-do Kyohan
-
Ah, all i know is that my friend had a copy of best karate, and there appeared to be more pictures of each movement. However, I'll take your word for it and look in to some of the other books seeing as my Sensei didn't mention the best karate books either.

Congrats on the belt!

To Shotokan-kez: Sounds about the same to be honest, when your dealing with different schools ignore the color of the belts and focus on the number of the rank for example 10th kyu, 9th kyu, etc.. G95champ: I've read Funakoshi's my way of life, and just bought KDK, but I'd be interested in any other books you recommend. I'm actually interest in getting a second book for kata it's the "Best Karate" Series by Masatoshi Nakayama... The book for Heian and Tekki is only like $7.00 and the illustrations of the moves, are a bit nicer than the pictures in Kyohan. However Kyohan has far more content about the Kata, and karate in general.

A cool, I'll be reading over it soon actually. but for now i believe its bed time. I'll ask Sensei tomorrow about the nature translation. I'm sure he is aware of it, and with my luck was absent the day he went over it.. or he may have just not. You never know.
-
Nope, we did not learn that in class. However I just bought Gichin Funakoshi's Karate-do Kyohan, so I'm assuming its in there correct?
-
Well, consider that I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I am gonna say no but maybe I'm just uninformed?

Street fighter Two turbo.... i just loved the increased speed, it was the faster fighter out there at the time and the original game was ground breaking. I loved the hurting someone could dish out in trubo. I always felt street fighter could actually be won with well timed skill, instead of just button mashing like some, or special moves like mortal combat... Though mortal combat is a very close second.

To be honest, I don't have one at the moment... I apperantly never really got in to the 3d fighters. To this day my favorite fighter is still Street Fighter 2 turbo and its assorted version and ports... I'm a 2d kinda guy I guess. I love Capcom vs. SNK and such. I am however, hoping that the New Street fighter four might help to break this habit, and get me more in to #d fighters.

I have to say that I completely agree.. . One of the many that is.

Yes, I was talking to a only mmo friend from Finland. His style practices the "Pinan" kata with Nidan being the first... so yeah I personally would find that very hard since Nidan is so radically different that Shodan..
-
Haha I believe so!

Thanks for the warm welcome back guys, good to see you two as well. and sorry about posting in the wrong section at first I forgot the introduction forum even existed.

Heian Nidan actually, Heian Shodan and Taikyoku Shodan we're on my test for yellow belt. I believe on my next test for 8th Kyu I will have to know Heian Nidan of course adn I'll hav eto preform Heian Shodan once again... Then it's on to Heian Sandan which I'm looking forward to.

9th kyu, as explained in my coming back post.. i would be at least 8th kyu by now but I went through a period of inactivity in my training. either way I'm still VERY new to the art compared to many other people.

Right here!! I train at the Shotokan Karate Academy under Sensei Larry Vernon, and I believe we are affiliated with the JKA unless I have been told wrong. Which I don't believe I have.

I just realized, that post is a little jumbled and such. Sorry for the ramble that barely makes sense.

Hello guys, I don't know if any of you remember me. I was on the forum for a short time, around August- Oct. of last year, I began my training in Shotokan around that time. I've reached 9th kyu, and would be at least 8th kyu by now but I just went through a period of about 3 moths away from my training.. I left my job and was unable to afford to keep training.. However my Sensei recently invited my to return back to class free of charge for now that is until I move off to go to college after this summer. So just this week, I began training again and made my return to class. I'm also training on my off days with some of my tai-chi friends and their instructor.. and seeing as its middle of the summer and not their actually in class the instructor is training them and me, "old style" for free. My first day with them was on Monday and it was quite fun, we did a lot of bo-staff work outs and i got hit with a Kendo stick a few times. We tossed around and and trained with 4 by 4 planks, that was quite fun but my arms have been sore for two days becuase of it. It was quite enjoyable training outside at night by a pond, very good setting for mediation and training. If I may say so... Anyways I'm being long winded and ramble, I was just want to say Hi to everybody, and anyone that might remember me, I'm hoping that returning and being active in the forum will keep my motivated during my training.
