  1. The reason I (and I assume the other guy) reccomended bodybuilding forums is because half of bodybuilding is cutting away fat, and no one knows how to do it better than bodybuilders. Who better to trust about fat loss than people who get to 8 percent bodyfat and below while maintaining as much muscle as possible?
  2. Try posting at this forum here: https://www.wannabebigforums.com It's a bodybuilding, powerlifting, and general weight lifting forum. Someone there will be able to help you.
  3. I use the same split as SevenStar. It's impossible for MOST people to do a full-body workout with the kind of intensity you can use while only doing a few muscle groups. Sure, you might be able to do an easy routine using machines, but using free weights and progressing on most of your lifts each session - most people would just collapse. Hell, squats alone take a hell of a lot out of me. I couldn't imagine doing squats, bench, chins, and everything else in one session.
  4. Your body won't let you grow just big arms and abs. Doing so would create some severe muscle imballances that could damage your joints. If you just work arms and abs, they will get a bit bigger and stronger, but not very much, and you'll probably end up with some imballances. Join a gym and work your whole body, including legs. A 3-day split will probably serve you well.
  5. I train at the Toronto Wado Kai Ryerson dojo. Are you a TWK member, CanuckMA?
  6. I have notice a lot of people, even on TV and stuff, throw or attempt to throw boxing punches with their hands just hanging there as a big sloppy mess and their thumbs out. I just hope one of them tries to punch me.
  7. It's hard for us to offer advice if we can't see what you are doing. Have you tried asking your instructor, or an experienced member of your club? I'll offer some suggestions though: Make sure you aren't just moving forward and backwards. Try to use angles. Step to the side, and just as he is pivoting to face you, throw a roundhouse kick to the blind side of his head. Think about distance. Does your opponent love to kick? Wait for that kick, deal with it, then close the distance and throw as many punches/elbows at his as you can. If he retreats, chase him. As soon as he gets out of punching range, kick him. Just a few things to try.
  8. A gym membership.
  9. I think you should let them heal. Otherwise they have no chance to get tougher.
  10. You get to fight full contact without wearing gloves.
  11. I have to admit, I had never seen anyone wear a hockey helmet in a tournament before.
  12. I think the show is pretty neat so far, but admittedly there is too much of a focus on forms. But they did measure the power of that one guy's kick, and I believe it was over 4000 pounds if I remember correctly.
  13. Heheh, I enjoyed it.
  14. What date is it on?
  15. You are better off doing proper weight training and heavy bag work. It's okay for fun every once and a while, but the force of gravity is pulling the weights down. You are punching forward. Forces at 90 degrees don't affect eachother. So the resistance is not opposing your motion. Sure, you'll face a little bit of momentum to get the weight going, but not much.
  16. I thought only the first Shenmue was on Dreamcast.
  17. Just my luck, my University has no wrestling.
  18. Hahah, whenever someone asks for an art to take up, there's always someone who tells him he needs to take 7.
  19. While I don't dispute the fact that a good boxer will have a very powerful punch, there are two things to keep in mind: 1)Gloves add weight. Lots of it. Momentum = mass * velocity. So the heavier the gloves, the harder it is possible to hit. 2)Gloves let you pound away without worrying about your fists. In a street fight, your hands might start to hurt. If that happens your brain might not let you punch full force the way you are used to.
  20. I checked it out, it looks like the club is in Woodbridge, not Scarborough. I might look into it, but it's pretty out of the way for me because I live in Markham and go to school downtown. He does sound like a more qualified teacher than the ones at the place I found on Queen Street though.
  21. Which style would be better for take-down defense, BJJ, or Judo or TJJ? My main style is karate, so ensuring that I can use my karate will be important to me.
  22. Good point. It helps you lock out the punch. Okay, I guess I meant in terms of major upper body muscle groups. I know the punch starts with the legs, through the hips to the upper body. Do you agree that, in terms of upper body, the triceps are the driving force behind the punch? I'm no kinesiologist, so I could be wrong, but that's how it seems to me. Yes, gheinisch, but what if I use all of the proper body mechanics, as well as the pecs? How is the power lost? Thanks for the replies everyone. Keep in mind I'm playing Devil's advocate right now just to try to understand my technique. I DO punch with my elbows in. I'm just questioning the reasoning behind what I'm doing.
  23. I found a BJJ school in toronto: What do you think? http://www.rebellionjj.com/home.html
  24. Yep, there's your answer. You only have to learn four more martial arts.
  25. Thanks...I guess it might just make me work harder eh? As a follow-up question, does anyone know of any good grappling schools in Toronto, Ontario?
