I was @ one of our local competitions @ my High School...So it was sparring time, I headed to the arena, started off, the guy missed me, the floor had just been waxed, as I kicked I tripped, fell..and broke my leg... I got up being the dumb@ss I am, and tried to shake it off lol Everyone was like, are you alright?! I was just "Of crouse I am, It's all good" By this time the pain is getting extremely excrutiating, but trying to be "cool" in front of my compadres I kept going about 5minutes then the pain just got to unbearable..So i headed to the Hospital... Damn those waxed floors!!

I believe in Mind over Matter without a doubt. The only way I can conquer my fear or do something which makes me so nervous my knees knock together, I usually think of something else, or nothing at all. Mind over Matter is very helpful in Martial Arts. If someone were to give you a good shot in the gut, most people would panic (I don't blame them either) but we should quickly regain ourselves and continue. Just like if someone were to punch you in the nose, your eyes water, your nose is probably bleeding and terribly sore, you just think of something else to regain control of the situation and yourself (of the pain also) and continue. There is also an emotional Mind over Matter such as if a family member were to pass away, you would of course grieve, but sooner or later time must keep on and so should you. Think of the good times, and not the bad. Everyone leaves us sooner or later, but it's not whats important. Whats important is that were all here tigether NOW, think of the present not the futur and do not stick to the past. I hpope my lil 5 cents made sense to anyone I know what Im saying makes alot of it to me.

I don't think I could've put it any better than that. Goodluck with the test, im sure you'll do fine.

I tried waking early today (it's a Saturday, and I know most of you are probably "Dear God!! Waking early on a Saturday!! Are you freaggin nuts!!" And believe me, Im beating myself up for doing it ) Anyway, I woke at 6 and decided to do a few standing leg stretches. As I went down to touch the floor with my hands I hadn't noticed I was very close to one of our counters. Of course, the dumb-@ss I am, I bashed me head on it, fell over to the floor and didn't wake up until 10:30 when my mom found me laying there on the floor. I don't know if it's the blow to the head or the extra hours of sleep I missed that just made me pass out till 10:30.All this to tell you...Im not waking early for training ever again!! It`s too painful

Amen to that. Getting up early is way hard. Come to think of it, It's only 7:30am and im still not awake yet I know how you feel G95champ. I used to have classes that early too until they changed the times. Thank God for that!
-
Thanks for the advice G95champ. I know exactly how you feel about the extra hour of sleeping. It is quite hard to train early. An thanks, Ill need all the luck I can get lol

I asked my Sensei, the way they teach it to us, it's used on the solor plexis.

Im not a morning person, but I'd like to start getting up earlier and train just so my day goes by a little better than it usually does. I was wondering how long a morning training sessoin should last, what kind of excercises I should do, and about how many reps are good to get you going...
-
I think it's to the solor plexis, but im not positive. Ill check in with my Sensei Tuesday if no one has replied, and let you know if you'd like.

As many have already pointed out, Senseis usually take it easy at first to get their students used to the fact of sparring. Plus, this will really help in controlling your strikes and blocks sufficiently. Then as you progress, they usually bring the sparring up a notch, letting some contact in, then adding a little more and more slowly. But never rush into something, it's always best to take it easy at first, and get the feel of what your doing.

I was exactly the same way. My katas weren't the best when I did them in class, I was always so nervous and distracted, hoping no one would notice if I made a mistake and such. Then I participated in my first tournament, which was the biggest one created by my Club, about 400-500 people we're present, I went up alone, and performed a kata. Which was very nicely done in my opinion , haha, Anyway, ever since then, I've had no problem performing in front of people, I guess I just kinda snapped out of it, knowing it wasn't as bad as I thought.

Shaolin Kung Fu? Im not sure if thats what it's called. But I once saw about 1o minutes of programming on it, it seemed very interesting. Ill try finding the name later.

We learned Gekisai Dai Ichi and Ni first, then we started some of the Taikyoku series as well as some Kihon Ido Sets

The Art Of War/Books
Bratt replied to Bratt's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Aye Aye mon capitaine! Yeah, Thanks. I have a bad habit of starting a thread before checking through the rest of them. Er, sorry lol Ill check before I post next time -
Im just starting to read "The Art Of War" written by Sun Tzu..I was wondering what you thought about it? I mean, the beginning is very interesting, and I think it's a good book to read for anyone interested in war tactics and such. Oh, and do you recommend any other good books, it doesn't have to be based on war, but on Martial Arts or anything really..Just curious

We've sparred blindfolded, which was very hard for someone who has no clue how to use all other senses lol

I don't think I could've explained it better
