  1. How is that annoying them? There is more to this than that, as I simply cannot see how that could annoy them.
  2. Don't try to figure it out by yourself because it most likely will not do you any good. The chiropractor that had a look at your elbow was simply doing it out of the goodness of his heart so I suggest you visit another chiropractor and see if you can get a scan or well.. an answer.
  3. I wont be telling you what to do concerning your main problem but I do have something to tell you. Do NOT spend your life attempting to satisfy your parents, doing only what they like simply to make THEM happy, because if that's what they want then I'm sorry to tell you that they didn't really make it their top priority to make YOU happy. Wasting your time trying to answer your parents needs and being nothing but a weak minded person easily controlled by other's words and thoughts pretty much contradicts with everything karate and martial arts stand for. They have to accept you for who you are, try to explain it to them, if they don't understand then keep on doing what you're doing and maybe someday they will, but do NOT quit martial arts just because your parents don't like it. My mother most certainly does not like the fact that I come home after each practice with sore bleeding knuckles but she never tries to let me quit because she knows it's what I choose and it's simply unchangeable. You have to implement that idea in your parents heads in order for them to understand you.
  4. Hold on now.. Are you doing this merely to prove yourself to your classmates? Will proving yourself to them make you better as a fighter? No it wont, you are doing this for your own self. So act like it, and always thinking that winning is not important will pretty much hurt you in the end. Do your best to WIN, only that way will you gain experience and learn from your mistakes, but if you simply go there and play like a 5 year old I guarantee you that your next tournament will not be any better. Push yourself as much as you can and try to get as much performance out of you as you possibly can. Also, you don't suddenly remember to get ready for a tournament a day before, your preparation is what you were doing at home/dojo the last few months. Waking up at the last minute will not change anything, for tomorrow that is.
  5. Thank you for your feedback, and I'm talking about soccer. I have amazing reflexes and I believe they will do me good in football. I guess it's ok to do so then. My martial arts training although very intense and requires a lot of dedication has never hurt my performance in school. If there's one thing am good at then it's time management. Thanks again

  7. I need to bump this thread for I have something to add: If I do 70 leg lifts (my current max) my abs get kinda sore but nowhere as sore as that last time. Which tells me that there must be a much more intense abs workout for me to do, so can anyone maybe give me a 4 days a week (1 day rest after each day of exercising) that targets all the parts of the abs but I prefer it to be very intense as in depend on complexity rather than quantity because I want something to get me as sore as last time. Thanks.
  8. If hes not interested then don't keep trying, because otherwise he might come back just because he doesn't want you to get mad or anything. Therefor spending a long time doing something he doesn't like. Now heres the thing, if hes not interested then hes just not. Although there might be some rare cases. But in my own opinion I think that if you like something (sports and arts wise) it immediately shows and doesn't come out of nowhere. But again there are exceptions. Just make sure he doesn't waste his time doing something he doesn't like. Propose a list of sports to him and see what hes interested in if you really want him to get started with something. But again, do NOT let him do something he doesn't like while he could of spent that time doing something he does in fact like. Talk to him and find out exactly what drives him away from martial arts, maybe he has false info and assumptions. Hope this helped.
  9. I'm currently doing the best I can to advance in martial arts, I'm 15 years old and unlike many others I look at it more than just a hobby or something to kill time with. But I was wondering what your opinion would be on trying to be successful in an other sport as well. Like, It's one of my goals to develop myself as a fighter, and hopefully advance in the full contact championships one day. But what if, I'm attracted to an other sport (football) and really want to get somewhere with it? Would that crush my dreams in martial arts? Does that contradict with my original goals? I am NOT having second thoughts about martial arts, and I do NOT "like" it less. Is it wrong to want to do that? I've never played/play football with my neighbors when they called me to. The only times I play are at my gym class when I pretty much have to. And now I'm thinking of starting to practice football, but please note that if I was planning to just practice football for the sake of practicing football I wouldn't of asked this. What do you all think?
  10. This question is to general, and asking such a question in my opinion shows lack of knowledge. You should know enough to realize that in the end, your speed/strength and skills as well as your mental state can't be challenged by merely someone's height. If that was the case then why are there so many martial arts legends who are short. The only person to even think of such a thing has to have no experience in martial arts.
  11. There are either more than one instructor. Or that one instructor is fairly old enough to have mastered each one of these styles. You tell us. Do a checkup first, don't just blindly join a school.

  14. I've never focused on training my abs, well i did a while ago but overall i do not work on my abs. But 3 days ago while i was in my karate lesson, we were doing kumite and my back was hurting me in pretty much every single part of it so i wasn't really capable of doing anything. Anyways, the guy i was fighting with did not know that so he fought me normally, and i got 3 hard strikes from him at my stomach. It didn't hurt THAT much at the time but after i woke up the next day it was hurting me like crap, i couldn't even laugh because it would trigger the pain in that area. It stayed like that for 2 more days. One day after, i wake up and the pain is gone, and to my surprise, i look in the mirror to find out that part of my lower abs which I've never in my life worked on, just popped out out of nowhere. This topic might sound stupid to you, but i just thought that it was interesting although some of you might not find it so.

  16. For your foreamrs you can do wrist curls and biceps curls. Additionally, the forearms get used synergetically during any exercise where you are gripping for support. There's a great grip strength regimin out there called "king of crush." They can be found at https://www.ironmind.com. They come in 4 levels of difficulty (five if you count the trainer). I would recommend you start with the trainer or level 1 at most. They are amazingly effective at building grip strength, which is directly related to forearm strength by the way. For the muscles surrounding your knees: Squats are the number one best exercise. However, if you have any back problems (bulging discs, compression fractures, scholiosis) they may not be right for you. Check with your doctor for that. If you do not have problems, make sure to start slowly and learn proper form for squating. They are the best way to build leg and back strength, but doing them improperly is the number one way to get yourself hurt really bad. If you're reluctant to do squats the leg press is very good as well. For the hamstrings (back of the legs) stiff leg dead lifts are good (same rules as squats though) or leg curls are effective as well. You can hit your calvs by doing heel raises while holding weights. Those three exercises should do wonders for your legs. You can't build muscle where it does not exist. I'm sorry to say there are no muscles in the sides of your knees. Only tendons and ligaments. This is a good thing because your knees would be very difficult to bend if there were. Also, there's no way to strengthen ligaments and tendons, that's why stretching them isn't good. If you have problems with your knees popping out laterally (to the sides) you should check with an orthopedic doctor. Specifically someone who specializes in knees. It could be symptoms of a larger problem (ie...tendon or ligament damage that needs repaired). Hope this was helpful!   17. Building the muscles around the bones you want to use will help, with both your knees and the forearms. Also, using the makiwara for your forearms is ok, just use it in moderation. After extensive time in training, they will begin to toughen. Thai fighters don't get tough overnight. Years of pounding the heavy bags and competition and sparring all help in the conditioning process. It just takes time. If you try to hurry things along, then you will only bring on injuries and set-backs. I understand. Which exercises could i do to build muscles around the knee and the forearms? By the way is it even possible to build muscle around the side joints of the knee as well?
  18. Well how do you strengthen the forearms? Is the only way to do it is by doing weight exercises like wrist curls and so? Is any striking on the makiwara needed? Same question goes for the knees (Mine are pretty week, any simple hit on it is painful). Thanks

I just read about Iron Palm/Hand Training and basically it's just hitting your hand against a strong surface over and over again to strengthen it and so that you'd be able to hit harder and block harder while feeling almost no pain. I want someone who actually knows about this to tell me himself how i should do this. I already have a makiwara set up and am planning to start hitting on it 200 times with each fist as soon as i start with my weight lifting routine. Can i use it for Iron Palm Training or wouldn't that work? If it would work then how many times a day should i be working on it? Because i really need to strengthen my palms since they aren't really that strong and it hurts quite a lot when blocking strong hits. Also, how can i strengthen my knees so that I'd be able to hit with them without worrying about not being able to walk properly. Because when i watch full contact matches like in Muay Thai the fighters can block with their knees without feeling a thing. I've read that in order to achieve that you need to build muscle around the kneecaps. Well how can that be done? Am 15 by the way. I hope someone could answer my questions. Thanks.
  21. Are there any exercises that target your wrists? As well as ones that build muscle around your forearms? Because i have bony forearms which makes it hurt when blocking especially strong attacks. Thanks.

I went to my doctor because of my joints pain (legs,back and a little bit in the fingers) and well, it wasn't the first time, i've been there alot of times and he told me i just need to eat better and get more iron because my body cannot sustain such pressure without me eating well. Well, i did as he told me for about two months and ate like i never did before (no fast food ofcourse) and i started taking multivitamins and iron tablets. So i come back two months later (thats today) and he tells me to stop karate for a few weeks (up to 4) and gave me papers for joint tests and stuff. Am 15 years old by the way, and i think that asking me to quit karate for that long is useless and no matter what the problem is it's not going to help me. He says that hes about %100 sure that i have no joint problems and it's just the pressure i put on my body (come on am not the only one in the world who practices karate). So what do you all think? Am thinking of not stopping karate and just taking these tests, because it's hard as hell for me to quit karate for that long, i find it crazy, i go mad if i am ever forced to skip a karate class, let alone 16. Did anyone ever have to quit Karate for a while? How did it make you feel? And that's not just it, i just can't imagine my self spending 4 weeks without any kind of training, and i was just going to start with this weight lifting schedule that includes cardio and i can't wait to start it. PS: One of the joints that hurt me is my knee's, and sometimes while walking, i lose control of it and it bends by its self, this whole knee thing started like 2 months ago. Thanks for reading.

  25. Is it possible to build muscle around the knee and its joints? Because while in karate practice if i ever get a hit on the knee it hurts alot and takes a while for me to recover. Also, is it supposed to keep hurting for as long as 4+ days after getting an elbow to leg hit? Thanks.
