Will Martial Arts help someone with ADD?
The BB of C replied to krunchyfrogg's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes, it should. -
I'm not sure. It looks like it could be one. But I can't tell. Do you know where I can find videos of actual training inside the school?

A: This post is about 1/16 of most of the posts I read B: I don't believe we have any way of telling you how long it will be before you can defend yourself. If I knew you personally for long enough, I might be able to give an estimate. But we would still have no way of knowing for sure. C: Good luck with all of your classes.

Fighting someone who has no control
The BB of C replied to dragonwarrior_keltyr's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In addition to what I said earlier; I also have this to say. Don't fight unless you're ready to get hurt. There will always be people who are stronger, faster, and have no control or reguard for rules. It just means you have to train harder to be ready for them. And when you see them; I believe it's better to stand firm and see the fight through than get the opponent in trouble. Unless they're litterally trying to kill or maim you, I see calling an opponent on something is a coward's way out. I could tell you a good number of stories where I fight/sparred someone who had no control or went over the boundaries and rules. I never called them on it. In fact, 90% of the time it was more fun for me. The other 10% I lost and got hurt because I wasn't good enough. But I feel better about losing and knowing I tried despite they broke the rules than being a tattletale like "Teacher! He's punching too hard!" -
People with bad intent quitting before 1st Dan?

This is why I don't train people unless I trust them. -
I feel the same way sometimes. That the martial arts are disreguarded for what they really are. I respect you for wanting to shed new light on it, but you don't need to take it to this extreme. It's good that you practice a lot, but take some time and enjoy life. Friends, dating, after school activities, things like that. You'll find the balance and you'll be very happy with yourself and you'll also find it easier to cope with the problems in the world around you. I know this all worked for me. About your back, DON'T BE FOOLISH. See a doctor and let it heal. Pain is weakness leaving the body...only when you're training. But if you have pain and you're not training, that's your body telling you that something is wrong and to fix it as soon as possible or it will only get worse. And if you don't fix it, and you keep training like that, you'll only make it worse and I can gaurentee you it won't be long before you disable yourself from practicing your Kumite at all. Take the necissary time off, fix your back, then have at it again. It sounds like you're doing great so far. Don't ruin it for yourself and almost just as important; your cause.

I hope you have children just like you!
The BB of C replied to USCMAAI's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
That makes a lot of sense and I certainly don't blame you for thinking that. If by some horrid mistake of nature I ever end up with children I would think the same way. -
I've noticed this. It's because martial arts are involved in fighting and sparring. And people tend to think you're crazy if you like to fight.

We did visit the young man's Dojang last night. My daughter humbled herself in front of the boy, his instructor, the youngmans parents and his entire class. She said she was sorry and was greeted with " you were lucky, next time I will beat you!" I was stunned! The boys instructor was just as angry! He was very cold and not very receptive. The only thing that made the visit moderately successful was that the youngman's father made him accept Kinzie's apology, and then thanked her for comming. Oh if I saw a little kid say that to my daughter I'd let her give it to him all over again. -
I'm looking for something more
The BB of C replied to the undead shall feast's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
You shouldn't smoke. That'll be what kills you in martial arts. Jiu Jitsu is a very fun style to learn. Of course they dicipline you in several different ways. You tend to learn respect, perservearance, and your body gets pretty diciplined too which makes you stronger. There is a spiritual side to it. But only if you want there to be. Make sure you don't go into a place that teaches philosophy or have a spiritual side to their martial arts because it will be a very frustrating class for you if you don't want that kind of thing. That's my advice. -
Fighting someone who has no control
The BB of C replied to dragonwarrior_keltyr's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I do something similar. I call it an induced adrenaline rush. I don't think he really lost control I think he just started kicking it up and it looked like he lost control. And because he is enducing somewhat of an adrenaline rush in himself, he doesn't feel your strikes as well or can more easily absorb them. But I don't think you should ask what to do against someone in the street because in the street nothing is definate. You may fight this guy out there and one thing would work on him and then someone very similar as a fighter and the same technique would get you countered and killed. -
Blocking and parrying in combat
The BB of C replied to dippedappe's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
That's why we have to remember our late friend Bruce Lee's "water" philosophy. To always stay calm, roll with the punches, and do what you were taught. I believe that the day a while ago when we lost sight of that "clear mind constant readiness" philosophy in the school, is when people started becoming afriad on the streets. Then the adrenaline pumps, motor skills go out the window etc. just like you said. It has been a thing I've noticed. The instructors that preach and drill and repeat this 9x during a class are the ones that produce students that can use the ultra complicated parrying techniques in a self defense situation. Also think of it this way. Are we seriously asking ourselves if blocking is realistic in self defense? Have martial artists lost that much focus nowadays? -

Your daughter is officially the coolest person I've ever heard of in my nearly 17-years of living...next to Jackie Chan I believe she did the right thing. She stood up to a bully and did what she had to. I'll bet you that kid will think twice about underestimating his next female opponent. -
Blocking and parrying in combat
The BB of C replied to dippedappe's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
What I meant by that is this; Look at Aikido. What is that style? It's a lot of intricate movements consisting of complex blocks, counters, pressure point strikes, usually ending with a wrist throw. I know that a lot of pressure point strikes and small joint manipulation (such as wrist throws) are illigal in full contact competitions like Mixed Martial Arts and Ultimate Fighter Championship. There are a lot of other examples I could give (and kind of don't feel like it because I just woke up and am still feeling a bit lazy ), but I'll just stick with that. Hense, a lot of complex techniques are illigal. However we're talking about real self defense. So it's a totally different story. But you understand what I'm going for, right? -
Blocking and parrying in combat
The BB of C replied to dippedappe's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In my experience, they both work and it's always wise to block in any kind of fighting situation, you just have to do the right one when it's neccissary. Kajukenbopr has a very good point in the post above me. To Bushido_man96, the reason that they don't do a lot of complex techniques in Mixed Martial Arts or Ultimate Fighter Championship competitions is because a lot of them are illigal. -
I asked my mother about it. She said "It is a body energy and it's okay. So long as you don't start worshiping it or putting the energy above the Holy Trinity." That makes sense. So I guess it's okay.

Noticing a good fighter

I don't think it's possible to tell just by looking at somone. There are too many independant factors. -
Ever been asked "Show me what you've got?"
The BB of C replied to smckeown's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes. I've been said that quite a few times. It usually ended with the other person curled up in a ball on the ground and groaning in pain or claiming I broke his ribs. -
I would have done the same thing.
