I about 10 stitches across my chin when I was eight. Just tickled when they came out, didn't really feel a thing My sister on the other hand had stitches taken out of her leg (she sat on a vase on Christmas day >.<). It took 3 of us to pin her down while she screamed her head off.

Sparring Stratigy Link

Worked for me. Try going to https://www.tkdtutor.com . Then click Sparring (on the left), Free Sparring, Fighting Styles. It's a really good website, I used it to help me write my thesis a while back, there's just loads of good info there. Thank you, DWx. That was a help. No problem. What is a 'feign' attack? Most likely he means a feint. So the attack would be used to trigger a reaction for the person to follow through with an actual attack. -

I guess I would be a "Wait and Counter" fighter who deals out combos... Love to be the "Total Package Opponent" but unfortunately my legs tend to be tempermental, they either decide they want to be flexible or some days they don't want to move a great deal. I'm 5"11 and am at the heavier end of the spectrum so my tournament opponents tend to be slower but more powerful. Luckily for me I train with loads of lightweights and have been forced to train myself faster and lighter on my feet so I usually do well. Nice article. -

I had to hand my competition form in yesterday. In the end my grandma is going to pay for one set if I buy the other. My goal is to do more bigger tournaments like these so a set of red and blue will be the norm. Thanks for all the advice.

I used to do something like this when walking home after school (it was a long walk and I used to get bored). Just walking along trying to remember license plates and stuff. Got pretty good. Another thing I used to do was try and work out how far behind someone was from my by their footsteps. Just general environmental awareness

I think though that in this case the guy has a right to say no that he doesn't want to fight in front of his students. I think that actually this display was probably more beneficial to his students as he can say no that he doesn't want to fight and showed them how to deal with a conflict.

It is a lot like Tekken, there's some cool added stuff though. In Mission mode (single player) there's this thing called Shadow training where you have to copy the strings of moves the computer does. I find it quite hard as you've got to recognise what the moves are and then remember which buttons to press. A big bonus on the Tekken games is that you get to fully customize your character by buying clothes & stuff with the credits you've earned by winning matches. Some upgrade stuff like your defense or offense where others just look cool. You can also buy the ability to do certain moves and upgrade ones you already have. I tried out my controller by the way. Works quite well, doesn't seem to like me pressing the corner directions though.

My current set is on its last legs anyway and is due to be replaced. My Dad did point out to me last night that even if I don't buy 2 sets now and buy just the 1, somewhere down the line I'll need a new set anyway.

I'm trying to sweet talk my grandma into letting me have a set as an early Christmas present. Struggling to explain the concept of sparring to her though. Probably wont be able to get my parents to pay as they are paying for my entry and have to drive me 150-ish miles to get there. Problem with buying used is that because its this dipped foam stuff, used ones are likely to be torn/on the verge of tearing and are a waste of time for the amount of money. Borrowing might be an option if I can find someone to borrow off. Might ask around.

Not Olympic, the tourny is UKTA (a UK org) and will use ITF rules so I will have to have the dipped foam ones.

I found a thread on how to set up a controller properly: http://forums.ijji.com/showthread.php?t=25416 Not tried it myself though. Hope it helps

Coming up next month is this tournament which'll probably be my biggest one to date (not to mention my first this year) and I've been told that to do the sparring I will have to have both a set of red pads and a set of blue. I was planning on buying a new set anyway, the only problem is my current set is black so I would need to buy both now to compete in this event. So do I or don't I? Buying two full sets will cost me around £200 which will mean I will have to dip into my University savings as my parents are not going to pay for 2 sets of gear. On the other hand I could just not bother with the sparring and just do forms but sparring is my main thing. Any opinions would be helpful. PS I have to decide by Thursday as that's when my form has to be sent in...

Push ups against a wall could build you up. Depending on what angle you go at to the wall, you'll get more or less weight. Then gradually work down until you can do normal push ups horizontally.

Hehe...my brothers can tell horror stories of me when I used to play the Nintendo (old NES). I have ruined a couple of controllers in my day! Of course, that was before I became the nice, even-tempered, gentleman that I am today! How would either of you coped with a Wii, you'd throw the control through the tv or something!

The default keys are keyboard but you only really use 3 keys + the arrow keys. There is an option to use a game pad or something like that I think.

Not specifically Karate as he also does TKD, this guy shows some nice applications for moves: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=24HnpE6m9Us

After just searching youtube I came across a clip from this online game Kwonho. I think it might be my new favourite game of all time... I spent all afternoon on it. http://kwonho.ijji.com/guide.nhn?m=about&menu=introduction Basically its a bit like the Tekken games. You choose your character's style from: Tae Kwon Do Judo Tai Chi Chuan Baji Quan & Muay Thai and then you compete against other players online. (I didn't though, I spent my time hiding in the tutorials trying to figure out how to do the awesome combos I'd seen). It has awesome graphics and the moves are, from what I can tell anyway, legite. No fancy super power up stuff, just clean real techniques. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iYEMiXR86aY Anyone interested?
