  1. Go find another Aikido dojo, the best lesson taught to me is that 'a jack of many trades is a master of none.' Not beating down cross training here, but focusing on one art will ulimately make you better in that art. All the best in your search.
  2. Long long history of Hundreds of styles. Get a book.... perhaps 'Secrets of the Samurai'.
  3. Kodokan is the oringal name of Judo. It was oringally known as kodokan judo. So yes, there is a style of Kodokan, no idea about the Hawaiian reference.
  4. Judo is likely to have more full contact Randori and hence you'll learn better technique which will prepare you for a so called 'self-defence' situation. Judo, in most cases wont cover any weapons, but then it does cover ground fighting in great detail. TJJ has many great systems, but what out for a lack of sparring. Also, if you do do TJJ, you'll need to do some Judo to get the ground fighting aspect. Unless your lucky enough to find some Kito-ryu, or Shinkage ryu, but there not big even in Japan.
  5. Hmm... Well quiet clearly you are NOT mature enough, anyone who dismisses the Gracies are not only ignorant, but disrespectful.... Someone around here does not know his Dojo kun....
  6. The Gracies for me are just the next generation of great 'masters' of thier trade. I love Aikido, I know its not greatly respected with the more sport fighting styles like BJJ, Judo, Boxing, Shoot fighting and MT. But I practice it because I enjoy it. I also do grappling and its against the wishes of my Aikido teachers, but I believe its right for me and in no way intended to be disrespectful to them. Personally, there is NO art on the planet that compares with Aikido's fluidity and economy of movement. HOWEVER, this doesnt mean that I have any bright ideas about taking on the Gracies or any sport fighter. I do spar in my Aikido classes but again, its restricted. Look at Boxing, its restricted to its particular range, but look how amazing they are at that range, same for Judo and BJJ. Being well rounded is very important. Being able to train realistically and powerfully means the use of rules, to stop you killing eachother. My philosophy is that if you can win with rules, you'll never win without them. I dont practice one of so called 'self-defence' style. Non of my teachers, from my 73 year old Aikido Sensei to the younger Grappling instructors tell of age old techniques that are 'too' deadly. You can never know a technique is deadly until you can practice it at full power. I personally would rather techniques that I have tried against people that arent just giving me the technique, hence why the style of Aikido I do is so good, and why I just look in awe at sport fighters that put their bodies on the line to prove they are the best. If you cant beat a skilled person in the safety of the dojo, then you cant beat them for real.
  7. No, the fight was actually REAL! But anyway, MMA real, WWE fake. AND THATS THE BOTTOM LINE, BECAUSE KENSAI SAYS SO!
  8. Umm.... A Graice..... against a guy who does 'Self Defence'...... Oh scarey! What a joke, just because YOU Shotokan Warrior do shotokan goshinjutsu, doesnt mean anything. I very much doubt any self defence expert could take a Gracie.
  9. Reality check here, lets all remember that the mighty Goldberg was CHOKED out by Jerrico! Does Sano know that Wrestling is set up? No denieing their atheletism buts its not real!
  10. I think if someone is offended by a patch their too sensative. Just explain about the other style you do and your away. Eventually you might wanna get a new gi, but at todays prices its not going to bankcrupt you.
  11. I'm sure they'd clean up in mma... Then why do they always lose?
  12. If anything could be called Anti Grappling, that would be it.
  13. https://www.martialartsuperstore.com https://www.playwell.com
  14. Yea, but if its a lock and you turn I just lean back and break your arm. If you get out, it means that it was not on and I am at fault and that your skill has got you out of my 'pre-lock'. Once a lock is on its on, hence its name.... A LOCK.
  15. Those are the ones I'm thinking of.... Air Kicks and Back flips... and you think those things are useful in REAL fights! I like Yoshida and Crokop alot.
  16. Umm... UFC is actually REAL. Can we all please remember that. Oh and Crokop is an agile monster and that Japanese Judo killing machine..... The 'Gracie Killer', cant remember his name tho.
  17. I'm not such a big Bruce Lee fan. Good films tho. Just dont think he was the best Kung Fu man in the world, or one of the best old/new school practioners. But the most famous, which carrys a lot of weight!
  18. No, they just get killed. but Rob Van Damme wont get killed as quickly.
  19. Drunken Monkey has language barrier issues! I THINK he's trying to say he thinks I'm STUPID!
  20. No, as Bruce Lee was a grappler! He trained with Chuck Norris who trained with a Gracie!
  21. I dont. I think the US is great. Dont really have a problem with them.
  22. 'yeah right - all these british guys think they are like james bond, saving the world twice a week and get to **** the prettiest woman... i think that is exactly what Drunken Monkey wanted to make clear by stating that WC and JKD are not the same' What the hell is this about?! I take offence, dont generalise! How did you get that from Drunken Monkey stating the TRUTH! Oh and by the way WING CHUN isnt JEET KUN DO! As you'll see that, Kali, Boxing and Grappling have been very much intergrated in the JKD, WC does not have any of these things. Plus yea, I would like to be James Bond.
  23. A mixture of both is always important. But I sorta agree with that.
