Try out these "worst jobs in Science" from Popular science magazine: http://www.popsci.com/popsci/science/41190b4511b84010vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html I tend to agree with #10 having worked with many Post Docs over the years and would like to give a personal nod to my job, Assistant Scientist, because I get to try and make life easier for these folks.

Oh I haven't been to India. We had someone in our lab from India and he recently moved back home after 4 yrs in the US. I'd love to go visit he and his family someday though. Everyone I've met from India has been great. Shridhar and his wife were some of the nicest people I know and I'm going to miss him now that he's gone...

Welcome! What part of India are you from? We just had a post doc in our lab move back home to New Delhi last month.

Thanks! -
We use focus mitts and thai pads. Kicks, punches, elbbows, knees, shins... we use them all. Generally one partner holds for part of the class then we switch. We'll also hit full force on the pads. Better on the pad than on me right?

Good luck! Get better soon!

Blackbelt test Nov 19

No, there are usually more people. I was the only person going for BB that day and there was only one other person testing for a colored belt. There were however a lot of kids doing gymnastics that day (we share space with them). Let me tell you, it's hard to keep your focus when someone is going off the vault right behind you and making tons of noise! I second the "thank God it was before thanksgiving" comment. I ate so much turkey I wouldn't have been able to move! Hope your test went well too Doug. -

LOL yeah throwing my roommate around is great fun. He's a good sport about it though and it really made his girlfriend laugh out loud. -

Here's my yahoo photo album of my pictures from the test. Feel free to look at the other albums from my vacations to Olympic Ntl park and Glacier Ntl park too. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/niel0092/my_photos Please also bear in mind that I'm EXHAUSTED in these photos and be kind. -

No need for WTF

Yeah, that would be alot of fun. I wish we did allow a bit more in our sparring but I have to say that when I started at the University the TKD club was the only one that allowed contact of any kind. Made my choice alot easier. -
Never even encountered these sentiments until I went online and then it was from "art X" towards TKD. Frankly I could care less about the politics involved and find the whole thing rather silly. I really like both arts actually (most arts for that matter) and never had a reason to bad mouth anyone. Just my 2 cents.

Wow am I exhausted! I did all 17 forms today, with a few small mistakes but it was ok. I nailed the one-steps and the self defense moves I came up with went over very well. There's nothing quite like making your head instructor laugh out loud cause you have your partner in a vicious armbar after you threw him into the air head first! I got my first two breaks on the first try but missed getting the round kick hook kick combo at first. I dont feel too bad about it though as those were the hardest boards I've ever seen. It was like kicking through granite. Sparring went well but I was exhausted and wished I could have done more. I did land a nice rt cross to my sparring partners mid section that raised a chorus of gasps from the audience. That felt pretty good to hear. I did leave it all on the floor today though and took everyones advice and did it with a smile. Thanks every one! Glad your test went well KK1975. Sounds like you had a great time! -
Ever try meditation? I've found it to be very rewarding so far. Otherwise I'd suggest reading up on your history and the history of other arts, expose your self to new concepts and ideas, read philosophy... and above all make your BF bring you breakfast in bed! LOL

Frustrated and Nervous
niel0092 replied to writerlady04's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I have a joke we use for board breaks, maybe more of a saying really: "the boards are already broken, they just dont know it yet" Fix that thought in your mind and the break will go much easier. -
17 forms (8 Taequek, 8 Palgwe, 1 Chong Bong -a local form) 36 one-steps ?# one-steps you design (I have 8 ) 2 sparring matches, maybe more 3 board breaks (1:jump spin heel kick speed break, 2:round kick hook kick combo, 3: 360 jump back kick) ?#: mystery breaks the instructors make up for you to do on the spot 1 written paper and a whole lot of QandA

It's my TKD test this weekend. I'm a yellow belt in judo and Kali is kind of informal for me when I train with folks from the Minnesota Kali group. It's been a hard week of training getting ready for tomorrow. I've done all my forms and one-steps repeatedly all week and finished writting my paper yesterday. Tonight it's off to Kinkos to make copies and then a relaxing night before the test. Thanks for the support folks, I'll update you all by Monday at the latest. -
Love that video. If you watch closely you can see the smaller cat almost be like "oh nuts, here it comes!" just before the big cat pounces. LOL
-
I like some of the forms they do but prefer to watch traditional forms generally. When they get too flippy spinny it looks more like gymnastics to me than MA. Having said that, it is remarkable how much work and effort these people put into doing these competitions. And this was not meant as a knock on gymnasts either. Those folks work awfully hard to do what they do!

Oh no wait, I didn't mean I had passed yet! I have the test on Sat to go through. I was just looking foreward to learning it in the future.

Really looking foreward to learning Koryo, maybe next week if I pass my bb test on sat...
