Does anyone else here practice Hapkido?
niel0092 replied to aigaios's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
There are a few hapkido people around here. Tufrthanu studied it for a while and I loved it when I tried it a few years back. -
Really? Well my hat's off to him then. That's pretty cool

A possibly dumb question about sumo wrestling
niel0092 replied to bigpopparob2000's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'm pretty sure those guys ARE very strong. The extra weight probably helps with the wrestling though, otherwise I'd expect to see trimmer sumo-ists. -
Love that movie. So how about fighting Ed Norton or Brad Pitt? Great actors, probably cant fight though... We also have a guy at my school that likes to hit the smaller folks way too hard. He doesn't pull that crap on the rest of us 'cause he knows we'll flatten him. That crap just cheeses me off... It's hard to retaliate on some one when he never does it to you. Grr. Tell ya what laurie, you kick your dojang jerk in the head this week and I'll do the same. That'll show 'em!

Wow, I was wrong on the score last night. Oil 5-4! Do you think a sweep is at hand?
-
So, any predictions on the Edmonton/Anaheim game tonight? I'm going with the Oil, 2-1.

San Shou?
niel0092 replied to kayz's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Cung Lee is who you may be refering to. I've seen a few of his fights on ESPN and he's very impressive. Just totally dominates the other fighters. I really like the San Shou rules. It allows strikes and throws but not ground work. It really helps to avoid the "lay and pray" we see sometimes in the UFC with fighters that aren't skilled at a ground game. -
What I want to know is how Noah got the letter anyway. The fighters are not supposed to have contact with the outside world right? No TV, no newspapers, internet, etc. Who slipped him the letter? Why? Was it real, trumped up tv drama, or a sly move by team Shammerock to get rid of a member of team Ortiz?

You could also try http://www.mnkali.com A number of people at our school also train here. Rick Faye is a top notch instructor and very well respected in the MA community. There are MT classes as well as CSW, BJJ, Kali, and the phase program. It's nasty nasty stuff and very well done.

The stick training in Kali lends itself nicely to empty hand training. Anything we do with a stick has an empty hand application and we spend a great deal of time doing both armed and unarmed work. I've also found that using sticks helps a great deal in learning body mechanics.

Branching Away From TKD

I tried a little judo to suppliment my TKD and loved it. I'd like to do more of it someday. -
Which Karate Forums Member Would You Most Like To Meet?
niel0092 replied to Sohan's topic in General Chat
Lots of folks past and present. Patrick, Laurie, Ninjanurse, Iamrushman, all the staff... everyone's been pretty cool here. I know, lets have a great big BBQ! -
I chalk it it to many people in that age group being either in or just out of college. There's usually not a ton of extra cash flow to spend on MA in your 20's. Also alot of those peope could be focussing on careers, starting a family, etc.

Congrats! -
It's a Smith & Wesson Extreme Ops, about $10 from Smokey Mountain knife works. Yeah it's cheap, but I have plenty of expensive knives and I'd really rather not gunk one of those up at work or risk losing it. This one's just an inexpensive work horse for me

I ended up buying a smith and wesson tactical folder. It fits the need for an inexpensive work knife, right size too. Thanks for the input folks!
