  1. I think you missed the point. What I'm saying is that in Kali you will be challenged mentally, and that the mental challenge is a large part of kali. While in Thai boxing getting a solid workout and sweating alot is integral to their training. If you are not challenged mentally while doing Kali it might as well not BE Kali, just as if you are not sweating in Thai boxing then you probably aren't really doing thai boxing at all. No comparison to the various techniques of these styles was made. Both are wonderful and very different arts.
  2. Exactly! I knew you guys/gals would understand.
  3. Welcome!

  6. Welcome!
  7. I did a bit of sca so in this situation I'd like a shield and a gladius. Parry with the shield, bash it in the opponents face, stabity stabity stabity your way to victory I'd like to say a dagger and kali stick but I'm just not quite good enough with that yet.
  8. I heard a neat quote the other day that made me feel much better when training Kali. "Kali without confusion is like Thai boxing without sweat." Doesn't really happen does it? As much as I learn, there's always still something to trip me up and make me scratch my head in utter confusion. I love it. Train hard folks.
  9. Very nice. Thanks!
  10. Cool. Did you have a link?
  11. I'm actually going to the Vikings game this week. Cant wait to beat the tar outta Detroit!
  12. Lately I've been getting some pain in my left hand middle finger knuckle when I punch. It's on the appropriate knucke for punching (ie I'm hitting with the correct part of my fist) and I'm not having any wrist problems of any sort. I currently use a Century Wrap glove when I do focus mit drills but I'm thinking of changing it up to another glove with more padding to better protect my hands. -We do LOTS of punching on focus mits, thai pads, and heavy bags. Has anyone experienced this before? How did you improve your situation? Did you see a doctor about it and what did they suggest? It's uncomfortable to hit hard with my left hand but I'm sure it's not broken. There's also not any bruising. Should I look into hand wraps to wear with my gloves and how does one wrap their hands anyway?
  13. I'm really enjoying kali. I've done single and double stick, and some dagger also. I missed the palm stick and balisong class last week though. Man, was I mad about that! I've also enjoyed pannantukan which is the empty hand portion of Kali aka Philipino boxing.
  14. Oh ninjanurse, not you too!
  15. Ouch. Well I may root against the Pack when they play us but even I would be sad if they didn't score a single point. Chances are they'll do it against the Vikes... LOL
  16. Oh Patusai, a Packers fan? And I thought you were a sensible individual. (I watch the Vikings)
  17. Hi folks. I got engaged this weekend! Thanks for all the help. I'll write more details for you later.
  18. Yeah, I'm planning on doing just that. It'd be horrible if it was lost or stolen. Talk about a bummer! And yes, it is a round briliant cut. I still can't beleive how much this thing shines!
  19. I did end up buying a ring last night after all. It's a .52 carat diamond solitare, G color rating, and VS2 on inclusions. The stone is set in 14k white gold. It's gorgeous. I looked at a number of stones and setting and this one blew me away. I got more for my money than I had planned on really. Thanks for the help everyone. Stay tuned next week to find out if she says "yes".
  20. Thanks. I'm pretty excited really. I'm looking today because my girlfriend is out of town for the week. I know about what she wants, what her tastes are, and how much I can afford. I think I'm going to look at a solitaire, round cut, set in white gold. I've read that the round cuts tend to reflect more light out of the top of the diamond than other cuts, giving you more bang for the buck. She's not a high maintainance kind of girl at all and our tastes in jewlery tend more twords the simple. She's not a gaudy kind of girl at all. I may end up having her go with me later just to see how our ideasa compare but tonight is just so I can get a feel for what's out there and learn a bit more.
  21. I took french in highschool and early college but I'm forgetting most of it. Just not a ton of opportunities to practice it really. Typically I can follow along with some of the native speakers in our department but once they get going really fast it's hard for me to follow along. I also began learning german for a buisness trip but never got very far with that either.
  22. I just read the thread about an other member getting engaged and I thought I'd start this thread. I'm heading out tonight with a friend of mine to look at engagement rings for my girl friend and it's exciting and kinda scary at the same time. I really want to pick the right ring for her and not get screwed over by the jewlery store. The two almost seem diametrically opposed. Pick a ring out of gut feeling or go into it thoughtfully and carefully. Anyway, I plan on trying to do the best I can in both areas and was wondering how others have done. Tell us your stories here. Any engagement disasters or success stories? Was your ring just right and all you hoped for or did you cringe in terror at how ugly it was? What do YOU look for in a ring? What do you like about the one you gave/received? I've done a bunch of reading on it so far so it's time to put it into practice. Wish me luck tonight in my quest to find the one ring that will knock her socks off!
  23. Oh, and welcome to the boards DancingSteve! Great first post. I really enjoyed reading it.
