  1. Bo Kali Sticks Nunchaku, Sai and Sword on request and only blackbelts.
  2. out of curiosity, were do you get pencil and paper in a Dojo? let alone the time to write...
  3. In my quest to find a new martial art i decided to start Judo. i wanted to learn more about it before i start and i came across this excellent site. im not sure if all of the content should be there, but its great none the less. http://www.judoinfo.com/menu.htm
  4. they are also wearing padded equipment. although i agree with you that circumstances can affect an attack.
  5. i listen to kung fu fighting of course!!!
  6. when i was 5 i was realy into the ninja turtles i wanted to take ninja and be a jinja turtle (as many kids did) but there was no ninja around. so my mom found 3 karate class' 2 of them were well known in my school but my mom chose the less known one ($7.00 a week and no paying for tests. a much better deal) turned out to be the right choice as the other schools turned out to be money grubing Belt Factories. i started when i was 6 and im 21 now
  7. i saw this a while ago on discovery, History or national geographic channels. try doing a search for Chi Balls in You Tub you might find it. i would myself but i have dial up and video's dont play to well.
  8. i saw a few interesting things on TV. related to this subject. I haven’t watched any of the posted video's (dial up) so tell me if its the same. a guy on Ripley’s believe it or not hit around 10 students in different spots (not even hard) paramedics reading different instruments hooked to the students said that the electrical patterns in the brain of each student was changed and all of there breathing stopped. he brought them back to normality by rubbing the different area's. Another thing i saw was about a class that taught how to throw "chi balls" kind of like a special move in a video game. The teachers threw it at students and they all fell over. But when a scientist had these "chi balls" thrown at him he wasn't affected at all. They chalked it up to the power of the mind believing in these events that caused them to work. Maybe it’s the same with Dim-Mak.
  9. ill be the first to say Nunchaku i am far more skilled with them than any other weapon. after that i would say Bo-Staff
  10. my brother made it all the way to 2nd brown and then quite karate. i can tell he regrets it now when i talk about my black belt. stick it out and you will be happier in the end.
  11. as far as a "Touch" i dont know. but i do know that certain strikes to certain area's of the body can kill. I saw a sight online once that talked about a pressure point that kills but i dont know if it exists or not.
  12. its not the shape of the katana thats special its the forging techniniques. its was the first time anyone had layered metal like that. The result was a very flexible yet sturdy blade that was so durable that generations of fathers and sons often passed down the same blade.
  13. to me that would depend on the size of the Dojo. obviously the larger it is the more black belts are needed. but 15 with 6 coming does seem a bit much.
  14. "Can you keep it down, I can't hear my friend on the phone." - A visitor to my dojo as i was demonstrating a Kata.
  15. this is also the way my dojo does it.
  16. i was confronted by a drunk guy outside of a bar. he could barely stand up and he swung at me in slow motion (full speed to him). i cought his attack and did a leg sweep and gently lowered him to the ground by his jacket. were best friends now
  17. since you said body I’m assuming you mean torso. it was shown on the fight science show and it said 2000 lbs of force. if they hit the abdomen it can cause internal bleeding. if you strike a rib it will can bruise or break it . if the strike landed over the heart it could stop or disrupt the heart. i can go into it in farther detail but i don’t want to write an essay Nunchaku was always my favorite weapon. at first it was the twirling ill admit. but now its for the speed and power they generate. when i was active in karate i won 3 weapons form tournaments with them.
  18. I’ve been in karate my whole life. i have a very high power level. i haven’t trained in about 3 years though. recently i have become increasingly interested in training again. i haven’t gotten my bag up yet but i started at the basics again. stances and strikes. I’m finding that if i do a reverse punch in the air it hurts my arm. at the end of the strike it feels like my joints are being pulled apart. this could just be because I’m not making contact with anything but does anyone have any excursuses that can strengthen the joints to handle my punches?
  19. perhaps its just a way to describe an aspect of a particular person. say you have your purple belt and don’t know advanced kata, but you can fight as well as a black belt. you are "black belt equivalent" in sparring.
  20. The easiest weapon is the one that every kid has growing up. Ever play with sticks in the back yard? Anyone can pick up a stick and do damage with it. And once mastered, a stick weapon is an effective tool. After that I put blades. Similar to the stick weapon, but it now has a greater chance of hurting you with the sharp blade. Spears bridge the gap and eventually leads to swords. These are the best in terms of balancing the weapons equation (extension of body, greater damage, increased range) after that it gets harder. I put section weapons next. It takes a long time to make it feel like you’re in control of the seemingly random weapons. The hardest by far would have to be ranged. Throwing weapons and bows take a long time to master.
  21. im trying to find an Aikido instructor but there doesnt seem to be one in any reasonable distance from my school or home. i was wondering if there were any good books out there that might outline some of the basics.
  22. Hello to anyone who chooses to read. im from NY state USA and have been practicing Goshin Do (The way of Self Defense) Karate for 15 years.my mom got me and my brother into Karate at the ages of 5 and 6. i am now a First Degree Black Belt. i thought all the split decisions on Nunchaku were funny. I have been told i am extreemly talented with them. so i hope i can sway you all to love them as much as i do
