  1. Punch the keyboard harder .
  2. Last wrestling season I was continualy matched against people who were much better than me. Both at practice and at meets. My lousy record proves it . While I may not of won a lot of matches I believe my skills have increased dramaticly more than if I only wrestled people at or below my level. And next season I think I will be a lot better than last. I believe with this example we are comparing apples to apples .
  3. Lewis has plenty of power behind his punches but never really capitalized on it. There were plenty of times where he could have finished it with a jab+cross combo but didn't for some reason. His stategy DID work though, obviously . I predicted a 9th round KO by Lewis. Oh-well I was close.
  4. If you consider yourself a Martial Artist then your view of grappiling is way off. No martial art is complete without grappling. If you think you can defend from a decent shot without ever doing so than you are diluding yourself into a false sence of security. No one art is perfect, none. Some are a bit more well rounded but none are perfect.
  5. Some more great advice from Withers. You can't improve by fighting people at or under your level. Granted your ego might grow but your skills wont. Enjoy your poundings because they will get you tough and help to improve your defensive skills. Good luck.
  6. Ignore it. Don't concentrate on the outcome.
  7. Real good advice from Withers.
  8. Pain is just weakness leaving the body. Deal with it and become stronger.
  9. Thanks for the warm welcome all. Jack: I have not gone to boot camp yet but when I come back next May I will give you the low down if you still want. G95champ: It is my honor and privilege to serve our country. God bless.
  10. Would you watch? What would you expect the out come to be? I don't think that Tyson is that great of a boxer. He has had VERY limited experiance boxing real good boxers. Not to mention that he is nothing more than a walking, talking, piece of sh1t. I think that if he went up against anyone in the UFC or related organizations he would have his azz handed to him quickly. My limited logic is based upon a few boxers I have sparred with. They have no defense against an attack to their legs. Unless he spent some quality time with some type of grappling discipline he would loose in mind.
  11. All things being equal I am more confident with my standup skills but if I encouter a situation where an assailent looks like he knows how to strike on his feet than I will try to take him down. I've been in very few real fights, thank god. Two of them ended with joint locks (while standing) and the other three all ended with a quick jab to the face. None of them lasted more than two minutes.
  12. I leave in Feb for San Diego. I'll post what I think when I get back. My recuiter loves it and is apparently very good at it too, he has been in the infantry for 13 years and loves the blood and guts stuff. Perfect guy to be my recuiter I guess.
  13. Could you please post the rules? Full contact, point, are take downs allowed? One thing I like to do right before the fight begines is kia so loud you partner, if relativley inexperianced, will freeze and then start off with a front foot direct kick(front or side). I fight strong side forward for that reason (faster&more power). If takedowns are allowed and I am sparring someone with limited ground work or takedown defence I go in for a simple, fast, single leg take down and work it hard. Good luck.

  15. Creatine is some great stuff. It does not just add water retention. It increases muscle recovery, and helps add lean mass that will be retained even when the cycle is over, granted that the water that WAS retained will be flushed out so you will be smaller than when you are on creatine but bigger than before.
  16. Take every one's lifts with a grain of salt guys. My powerlifting coach has given me a lot of advice. One, was to never believe anybody without a picture or a published document. That is the nice way of saying you are all full of ****
  17. While not the exact same situation my Tang Soo Do instructer has a black belt in jujitsu and aikido. He incorporated them both into our training. I am very thankful for the little bit of grappling I learned and feel pretty well rounded.
