  1. I like the idea of "self talk" I have pretty much done this kind of thing throughout my life. I've always considered it kind of an opportunity for some honest reflecting in a thinking out loud kind of way. I normally always do this in solitude, other wise I could be considered a babbling fool LOL
  2. One of the reasons I started taking karate was in hopes that the training would act as a catalyst, guiding me towards making many lifestyle changes, one of which is to quit smoking. Threads like this one are a great inspiration. Best of continued success to you Shotokan-kez and to all who struggle with addictions and dependencies.
  3. I am rapidly approaching the big 40 myself, this Jan in fact. I'm looking at it all with this motto "40, it's the new 20!" Seriously though, your workout is an inspiration!
  4. While I certainly agree that many are susceptible to falling into the trap of impatience, not only with ones self but ones surroundings as well. Much of the advice given here is RIGHT ON IMO, I only hope I can remember some of this when I encounter my own "blue belt blues". I'd like to add that from my perspective, Karate-Do is in part about overcoming these type of obstacles.
  5. Hi all, I guess I'm lucky or unlucky depending on how you look at things. My Sensei is an equal opportunity punisher. LOL. In other words. he is strict, but fair and consistent with everyone as far as I can tell. Like has already been mentioned, I think the important thing is strive to do your best at all times. Regardless of belt ranking, age, gender etc.
  6. Thanks for the welcome, looking forward to this whole experience.
  7. Greetings to you all! I just discovered this little corner of the web yesterday, I’ m a new Karate-Ka, only recently began training in Hayashi-Ha Shito-Ryu Karate-Do. So far it has been every thing I hoped and more. As a studious person, I naturally want to learn as much as possible about my new found interest in Karate and the martial arts in general, this seems like an excellent place to start! I look forward to learning, sharing and getting to know you all.
