oh babes dont worry the time will pass quick and just think of all the fun you'll have come xmas - remember you got that big meal to think of!!. What you are doing is the right thing by letting him spend time with his dad with out grudging him it. Thats the sort of things that kids will remember and thank you for in the future. Like you said it a great oppertunity to spend some time with your lil' one and get ready for santa coming- dont think two weeks is long time - think only two week to get everything ready!!! Remember we're all hear for a chat if you need it Carolyn x

Things NOT to say to your instructor...
karate carolyn replied to Valithor's topic in Instructors and School Owners
yeah or the "please go easy i have a hangover " for some reason this does not sit well esp if you have to do a turning kick (not me though would never do anything like that ) maybe another could be "whens the smoke break?" -
lol Ross is like that and he's 22!! haha oh thanks im not to bad cause there is no kids in my family so we can just get little things and have a laugh but my heart goes out to the ones that do. just gets my goat when the boss was see on holiday after it collapsed man i would have loved to mawasageri (sp?) his bottom about the beach

sounds cool i love putting up the decorations esp this year after talking to my boyfriend found out he has never had a xmas tree in his house so he is like a little kid at the idea of putting one up in mine (well ours he moved in a week and a bit ago - aghhhh!!! takes a little getting used to) looks like its not going to be just my mum and i after all!! my only grip is we lost £200 on that farepack thing i hope the bosses of that bank get a vist from the ghosts of xmas past, present and future - scrooges the lot of them !!!! (sorry felt like a little rant there i'll stop now)

Personally i think it can be a good thing it can give you a good chance to experience other ideas from other MA and not get stuck in a rut. One possiblity for you would be to find a Bodokan karate school as this is the style i study which actually has some Aikido mixed in with Shotokan which could be a good way for you to feel comfortable in a new style . In my break from karate i studied TKD for a while and found two things. One i developed my kicks better which helped in returning to karate and two that although i have much respect for TKD, karate was more my style and so i was more than happy to go back with a better frame of mind and no what ifs about changing to another style . Sometimes my sensi will show us something from an other MA and explain why this would or would not work, why we do it differently etc which i find intreseting and i think it also developes a good attitued to other styles of MA. I think far to may times some people get in to a 'my styles the best' frame of mind when really they all have something to offer. what ever you decide good luck!! Carolyn x

Hey, Im so sorry for your loss iv been there too and know what you must be feeling. I lost my dad 4 years ago very suddenly and i still miss him. It'll be hard but it will get better and you will never forget him. I always think the best way to remember them is to make them proud of you in life. Again my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Carolyn x

evening the odds for females
karate carolyn replied to darkness's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Just cause someone is strong does not necessarly make them a good fighter I was at a turnament one year and saw a massive guy knocked out by one (very good) hit from a not so big man provoking the question- whats the good of strenth if your technique is poor? Well for me i try to be light on my feet and have good balance i danced for a number of years and sometimes i find that i am at the advantage because of this. i can control my kicks better and can keep my self grounded. Also dancing has left me pretty supple and have no probs with my stretches were some guys seem to find it hard. What im tring to say is you will have many good sparring qualiites that is to your advantage because you are a girl and i think that concentration on your technique will win through for you and that the others will come in time. - just my opion what does any one else think? carolyn x -
mmmm intresting well for me im in the lucky situation that half the class are women and it seems to even things out and as a result we all seem to be treated the same. We do have the odd moments were a punch my hit a sensitive area (if you get my meaning) and get the slightly embarresed "Sorry" off the guy (makes me laugh - bless 'em) but apart from that its pretty even-stevens. I hate to think that some one would let me get away with something just cause i am a girl - i think that would really rattle my cage, purely for the reason that in the real world an attacker certainly wouldnt !! hope you have a wonderful time with you family bushido_man96 and im liking your idea of having two, maybe i could talk my mum into having two Christmas' complete with two lots of presents and food - now theres an idea!! again have a great time Carolyn x
-
oh that sounds likes it going to be a xmas to remember hope it all goes well!! We'll for me Xmas has changed over the years I lost my dad a few years ago and my brother is living in South Korea so cant make it back home so its just my mum and i but we still have a great time and stuff our self silly with food!! as for what we do, we have never had a traditional dinner but instead get the biggest Chinese meal ever!! (oh my god i cant wait !!) some times i think im the only one who does this but we're not big turkey fans and dont see the point in eating something for the sake of it. Well again hope it all works out for you Shotokan Kez and hope you have a wonderful time with your family (and the same to you all) Carolyn x

Very, very frustrating!
karate carolyn replied to Abraham_lincoln's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Never mind at least your heart was in the right place and that you wanted to go thats the main thing. It would be worse if you didnt care at all about your friends grading. Im sure he'll understand we all do stuff like that from time to time. Dont beat your self up over it (thats what sparrings for - sorry bad joke) carolyn x -
you know, a small bird emmmm i think maybe you's call it a parrakeet? (Only know this cause i had the same conversation about it with my brothers girlfriend on time)

Hi all Does anyone else study this type of Karate just curious as this is the style that i study and would be grateful if someone could give me some background info on it. Oh and if anyone has any good sites on the history of Budokan or Karate in general that would be swell. My sensi (one day i will spell this right!!) always tells us the history of moves etc but sometimes i wish i could find out much more about the early history. (sorry if theres been a post like this before - im still a young pup in this forum) ta karate carolyn
