hi Shotokan-kez oh that would be great for you to move up here (well maybe im bit biased (sp?)) . I train in Cumbernuald which is North Lankshire near Glasgow but know that there are tons of places for you to keep going to practice all around. Any perticular place you were thinking of? If you wanted to i could ask around for you for a Shotokan school in that area. As for me i do Budokan Karate which is a form of shotokan (i think - im actualy trying to find some history on Budokan if anyone could help) and think you would be more than welcome to join our school if you wanted too. hope this helped Feel free to get in touch with me if you want any more info or i can help in any way carolyn x

Well at least you get the choice for some reason we get told what languages to use (something to do with the licences (sp?))at my coll. tbh Java aint to bad but would much prefer to use C++. (just for the sheer fact it took me ages to set a path in java that worked, a couple of hours of my life gone due to missing out quotation marks when saving my file!!!!! Really didnt like java after that ) ) What is FORTRAN? cant say iv heard much about that one. Hows you college going anyway? oh and thank you i think from now on i will embrace my geekiness and may even reveal to my friends that i am a closet star wars fan too!! carolyn x

Hi Yeah!! there are people here too that like programming what a forum karate and programming!! As you guessed i do too, at college at the moment studing software development. I have used VB the last couple of years for coll but now on to java finding it so much easier but then i have always like command prompt interfaces. iv also dabbled a bit with C++. Please believe me tho im not a total geek (well just a little ) carolyn x

Hi all Thanks again for all the feedback it really has been insightful. Just to give you an update I decided to go for the double gradings and am very pleased to be the new owner of a red belt!! Not only did I get the double but my examiner told me I was very strong in my technique which I was very chuffed about. The icing on the cake has to be that all my fellow students really rallied together like a proper team and helped each other (we all arrived an hour early to go through it all together) and as a result we all passed our doubles!! So not only did I pass but realised what a great team we are and possibly if I hadn’t went for the grading maybe I would have missed out on that!!!! Thanks again for all the posts and in response to arran6 yeah I don’t know what I was thinking but being a teenage girl I had other things on my mind luckily I came to senses and like you I couldn’t image life with out karate now!! ta much Carolyn

Hey I thought this was funny hope you do too; In class one day when we were doing punches to the count. As a good way for us to get a grasp on counting in Japanese my sensei gets the class to take turns of counting. Half way down the line a little boy got a bit carried away and started counting in French and then the next time in Spanish lol made me laugh anyway!!. Well this got me thinking of kids in classes and I know that when I was young I used to get carried away when doing Mokusoh resulting in someone having to tap me to tell me to stop only to open my eyes to find a class that has been waiting for ages for me to stop lol Anyone else got any stories to share?

Hi all Im Karate Carolyn. I posted earlier on the karate page but thought i should introduce my self to you all. Im from sunny Glasgow in Scotalnd and am at present studing software development. Im a 24 year old girl who has just recently returned to karate after a long (very long) absence. I have dabble a bit in TKD but have to say my heart belongs to karate but have much respect for all MAs and am loving finding out about all the different styles that you all do. Love the fact that there are so many different nations here too but have noticed that a lot of you are from America is this where the forum started? Anyway i love a chat so feel free to get in touch with me and please give me honest opions on things i dont offend easily haha talk to you all soon carolyn x p.s my spelling is one thing im not too good at but i will try to make sence x

hi 24fightingchickens Thanks for the post valid point but as for the gradings they will not cost me any extra as i would be attending the course (which i pay for) that runs before the gradings so i know for a fact that my sensei really has my best intrests at heart and not just trying to make money out of me. even by my own admission i have a long way to go yet even just in the fitness stakes but i knew that it wouldnt be easy if it was i wouldnt enjoy it so much!! ta much tho x

Wow the feedbacks been great some really good points. Please don’t misunderstand me though I do not disagree with what my sensei has said but he left it to me decide what I thought was best and I thought this would be the best place to help (which it has). I hope no one thinks that I am purely doing Karate as a status thing as I have far to much respect for MA and my fellow students for that and hold my sensei in the highest esteem. I do agree with lordtariel and that it is the person that wares the belt that it is important hence the reason that I am happy to ware a white belt (as I am starting my journey into Karate again ) but was just unsure as to what was the best thing to do and had no intension of jumping back to brown I knew either way that it would at least be a year at the earliest before I even thought of wareing the brown belt again. I’ll keep you posted as to what happens Thanks again to you all. Carolyn From Bonnie Scotland

Grading question Hello this is my first post so any feedback would be much appreciated. I have recently went back to my old karate club after an absence of nearly 15 years. This is the same club I went to as a child and reached the grade of first brown. I have now went back and have started my training again however – this is the dilemma when I first went back my sensi told me (as I had my old grading book as a record of my grades) that I will start over as a white belt but when i have reached the level I was I would be allowed to ware my brown belt again without having to go through all the gradings but now he has said that I should go through them all again but do double gradings. Im not sure if I want to do this again. The time element does not bother me even if it takes the same amout of time with or with out the gradings to reach that level again. Could some give me some advice? Thanks x p.s love the forum finally can chat with people who love karate as much as me!!!!!
