  1. my mother came home today and told me that at work she had met a man who teaches kung-fu at a highly popular school in are area. When my mother told him how i train in mantis kung-fu and will test for black in june he said that i could also train with him as well as my current sifu if i want to learn even more martial arts. He knows of my sifu and has also met him before. But here lies the problem, i hav trained with my sifu for almost 4 years now and the instructors there hav taught me very much. though i would like to broaden my Horizon in Martial arts i just feel that training with another master even though i still train with my sifu would be betrayel. I no some people on this site have done this many times, and think nothing of it. but i practice at a small school and have naturaly grown close to the instructors. I was planning on learning more styles eventually especially since i will be moving to attend collage in about 2 years, but i wasnt planning on learning anything new until then. Not to mention i always wanderd what would i do if my sifu wanted to go to a tournament or something that the other school was going to. i guess i kinda feel like Danielson in Karate kid part 3.(especially since my Names Daniel lol. ) has any1 ever been in this dilema besides me. i kinda want to learn more without havin to wait to collage, but i keep remembering that"no samurai has two masters" what should i do?
  2. yes the sparring i do with sifu iz slow at 1st then we pick up speed
  3. i keep seing these adds for martial armor own the backs and in "inside kungfu magazine" i was wondering if anyone knows if this stuff is good for tournies or not. i was considering getting it but im not sure if its worth the price tag not to mention if its even legal in most tournies. http://www.centurymartialarts.com for pics of this stuff if u hav not seen it or dont remember it.
  4. okay these things have been botherin me for a while so a want to get these questions answered finally. 1.) ive been training in kung-fu for 3 1/2 years know and i luv it but wat i dont get is y i sparr so well with my sifu( by well i meen great technique) and wen i dont sparr with him my technqiue is not as great. i feel like a pro with sifu and a novice without. idk if this is cuz im usd to sparring with him or what. i meen i execute locks, throws, takedowns. etc. beutifully with him but sadly its only with him. it makes me doubt if i can even defend myself the same way in a real confrontation the way i sparr in class. 2.) i have also been to sum tournies and find that i sparr rather naturally but i wantd to change it cuz i felt it was rather sloppy and did not look like black sash/belt sparring. 3.) iz it even possible to sparr like a blac sash/belt in a no holds barr full contact match the same way u would in a point match. i know that ud use more grappling and locks etc. but i meen can ur core move sets be the same for both. 4.) if u hav any video links to show me actual kungfu full contact matches id be very greatful. am i doing sumthin wrong or iz it me jus reacting to how my sifu sparrs. please try to answer these questions in numerical order.
  5. streetfighter 2 4 life.( ken, ryu akuma) Mortal Kombat is pretty good. samurai showdown and all the capcom vs. games especialy vs. marvel
  6. what isa freestyle example freestyle karate a how r they different from traditionalstyle version of that said martial art. i no this might b a noob question but ive always wondered that
  7. OK im going to be in a tournament soon and of course im sparring. wen ive went to previous tournaments have always conformed to the way other people sparr, using mor kickboxing based moves instead of kungfu based, how might i use more kungfu based moves instead of using what others use.

  9. It took me a very very long time but i was able to find enough information to confirm that there is indead being made a dragon ball Z movie. this is what ive heard so far. Brendan Fraisure will be playin goku but from what i hear they say he has the body for it now and can do the goku laugh well. ( still wish they had hav gotten a real martial artist though) it is coming out between 08-11 it will most likely be 3-4 hours long Goldberg will be playin Nappa(pefect choice) the same fightn engine/style used in the matrix will be used in this movie so expect great special effects. ive seen a pic of piccalo own youtube it lookd the best out of all the charactors and any other questions go to https://www.dbzsc.com for more info. and post anything u might no about it aswell. lets all hope it dont suck.
  10. yesterday i was working out at the gym for about 1:30, and i decided to leeve and walk down around to the other side of that shopping complex to go to my mom cuz i got sick of waitin for her. About mid-way i realize ' I am super tired and if there are alot of bushes and dark spaces around here ( it was night time) and there arent any people around, sum1 could easily jump out and attack me if im not careful. So i naturally kept my guard up. Luckly for me nothing happended, but it got me wondering. what if i had seen sum1 comming up or a group of kids start cumming in my direction. "do i run or do i fight" if i run i might make it away but if im not fast enough than they will catch me and plus i will be tired . if i stand in fight than theres an chance i will win the fight or they might beat me like i stole sumthing. not to mention im still tired from the gym. what would be the ideal thing to do in this situation.
  11. does any1 study the tan-tui method of kung-fu i no many styles study it as a basic training system before they get other versions. my school had a tan-tui system for the shaolin lohan, and my friends old school had 1 for eagle y do so many schools use this as there basics program?
  12. Im so excited, this is the biggest tournament will have ever attended. This year the U.S. martial arts championships are in Ohio, andi cant wait. I still have to ask my sifu if we can all go but most likely he will say yes. Its so big im going to actually have to take days of from work just to train. but im curious has any1 here ever been to this tournament if u dont know where this tourny is here is a link. https://www.uskick.com im a little nervous since the fact that this tourny is so big i might actually have to watch my back this time but i dont care. and im deffinitly not going home without a award
  13. ... i cant belive they r actually doing that. its going to be terrible!!! how can they mess up a classic like that, Bruce's 1st movie that was made for america, by actully doing sumthing lke this. i will probley not see own principle, unless they got sum1 like Tony Jaa 2 play Lee.
  14. i have noticied many people seem to have negative reaction to XMA. Citing things like, this is not a usable in combat situations. In complete contrast, I see a lot of the same people defend traditional forms and kata by saying that the rehearsed moves may not be useful in combat, but they do allow people to learn transitions and basic technique and allow them to practice solo. Doesn't XMA take that type of thinking to the next level. Doesn't it allow people to express their "art" on another level? also doesnt it also depend own the type of XMA team. a team like EMC requires all members to already have expierence in martial arts aswell as acrobatics, and they also must have sum to combat application own account of certain XMA style fighters doing well sparring tournements. example: jonathan Phan from EMC when he fought own final fu. Yes, final fu did restrict head shots, and grappling but he still showed that he new what he was doing. wouldnt it depend own the XMA team in question own wether or not there members hav any actual combat skill. It is also just as possible for the fighters to be able to take what they are taught and decipher the effective from the in-effective isnt it ? the reason im asking these questions is because i really wanted to join a martial arts performance team ( probley team ryouko since i cant find any other, but if any else can tell me sum really good teams in the U.S. besides in Cali i would be eternaly grateful[/b.
  15. YES THE DAY HAS FINALLY ARRIVED TODAY IS FINALLY THE DAY MADDEN 2008 COMES OUT!!!! i now im not the only 1 who is excited and that many people were probley watin 2 midnight to pick it up. so whoelse is as as happy as i am to finally get this game.?!
  16. okay i have been sparring for a long time, and one of my fellow students who use to be bad in sparring has become VERY VERY good in sparring all of a sudden. I am very proud of him but, because of him doing better he has got me to realize i sparr rather sloppy. u see i do alot o weight training alongside my martial arts training and because fo both of those key factors i have developed very strong muscular strength, but the problem is that i relize i rely to much own and without it i might not be anywere close to how good i am. so now i hav to learn to spar without relying so much own my strength, this is easier said than done for me though, as i am so used 2 using it. is there a simpler way to break this habit?
  17. WOW i new he was fast but i did not even see the strike to the eyes i blinked and he was already breaking his hand back. if i sparred with him id be hit before my eyes, brain, or pain receptors could even transmit that. makes me wish even more that he was still alive.
  18. 1.) 2 many puns lol.i hav not met any1 like that yet but im sure now that i hav jus said that im going to very soon. but i have determined this student +good teacher = good student bad teacher+student = bad student good teacher + student + tournement = student doing very well in tournement bad teacher + student + tournement = PAIN !!!! good teacher + student + situation were u must defend urself = student defending themselves, defeating aggressor or escaping with life. bad teacher+ student + situation were u must defend urself =
  19. yesterday 34 years ago(july 20 1973) Bruce Lee the man who knocked down doors so most of us can even learn the styles we study today. the person who is technicaly is one of the main reason we have shows like UFC or K-1 where fighters train to use only wat is practical and not wat is pretty.or even for us to hav full contact tournements. died, do to allergic reactions to medication. this post is loving memory of the best of the best, the master, BRUCE LEE. http://youtube.com/watch?v=PfXfc1CYnCw one day when i die i hope i can meet this great man. R.I.P. SIFU BRUCE LEE " Forever imitated, but never duplicated".
  20. P.S. transformer fans ROLL OUT!! (ive always wanted to say that)
  21. hey i jus saw the movie today and i have got to say.... IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE IVE SEEN IN MY ENTIRE 16 i had high expectations for it in the beginging and it completly blew my mind the fights were amazing, the CGI and character desighn was simply beutiful, acting was great, it was was hillariously funny with all the comiedians in it as cameao apperences such as bernie mack, and anthony anderson. also as a added bonus they even stuck with the old characters. ( bumble bee, starscreem, etc.) highly recommed watching this movie at all costs, i dont care if u get malled by bear going to the theater u have got to see this movie, it is going down as my current favorite movie 10 stars!!
  22. do any of u think UFC is going to eventually die out in popularity, and not jus UFC but MMA cage fights all together. i meen many people still dont actualy allow MMA matches in there state, as well as so many different people trying to gain money from MMA and so many different MMA cage fight companys popping up everywere. which is starting to make MMA matches less exelurating. I meen couple years ago everyone was talking about robot fighting and saying that it was going to be the next best sport, and of course many people starting making there own robot fighting companies ( jus like MMA matches) but eventually people just got board with it and stopped watching. and at the rate that so many companies are being started, and how many companies copy of other companies, do u think that mma cage matches are going down the same path. keep in mind that i meen MMA cage fighting, not mma style training.
  23. what are the nine hand sighns and how are they unchristian do u meen those hand sighns like in "naruto " or anything simular
  24. japanese karate for bout 1 year as a little kid ( no perticular style like shotokan, kykushin, or kenpo) mantis kungfu for bout three years
  25. aside from what every1 here has already posted Bruce Lee studied wing chun kung-fu and was able to make one of the most practical fighting dojos"the jun fan institute" ever made.( with a lttle american boxing, and tai chi thrown in") and then stripped out some of the inessentuals and made jeet kune do a style made specificly for streetfighting and is also technicaly a chinese style.
