i alwaqys describe sochin stance as a beginners front stance as it looks like a front stance with the back leg bent which is how i see alot of new comers do it
in unsu the jump is supposed to be a jumping spinning back it before you land but to this day i have never ever seen anybody achieve it not even master kanazawa sensei 10th dan.
personally i dont like the look of frayed or worn belts. when a black belt turns white to me it wouldnt be the same so my belt doesnt wear like some. but thats my opinion.
it took me 4 years to get shodan then another 2 for nidan. are you a shodan yeh? it should take atleast 3 years because its atleast in my club it is 3months between grades up 2 3rd kyu, then 6 months between all brown belts and six months between 1st kye and 1st dan then the respective years continuing..
i hate this ive seen it done in clubs. im glad that it mine it isnt like that. i feel that ive worked damn hard to achieve my 2nd dan and all my previous grades so it really pi$$es me off to see people who walk around with a black belt when they really cant do much more than a white belt.
im a second dan but i know katas up 2 about 4th dan level because i love learning them and making them look good. i need 2 learn 3 more then i will know all 26 shotkan kata. no hangetsu doesnt have a jump in it but that jump ios in enpi i believe.
I think you should let him do it on his own and if he fails his grading he will do one of 2 things, 1 is think ok i must try harder and next time he will give it his heart and soul or 2 he will think ok forget this and quit. i hope he does ok
