if you do shotokan in my opinion you should follow kanazawa he is the highest grade atm (10th dan). His bassai is the one i practice all his katas are the ones i practice

We have cat, horse stances but no han dpositions in shotokan.

well i passed my shodan at 12 and second dan at 16 and everyone seems to think i deserve it, and i have no problem with jr BBs but under 12 ears old no thats to young!!

12 years old for 1st dan and 15 second dan

i just want my kncules to be stronger so if i ever have to hit a person hard my knucles wont hurt as much. and thatnks for all the info people

I really want to condition my fists to hit harder surfaces than punch bags, and i think the best way to do it is a traditional makiwara. do i have to build one and if so how?

i know 24/26 shotokan kata, and kez why are they bringing in 2 more i dont believe that, that is worng IMO!!!

there is dai and sho, dia is greater and sho is smaller but they are both pretty much the same in lenght!

that is the only explanation i know of aswell, in sho in our club is the spear hand, and dai (which i dont know0 is the ippon ken strike!

game of death if bruce had lived would have def been his best, sadly the crap version is what we have. the burce figths are great though. id say way of the dragon

Hi people, i have just learnt Gojo-shiho-Sho. but ive found out that some groups call gojoshiho-sho and dai the other way orund. anybody know why?

in my class we black belts train like everyione else unless we are needed to teach others and split the class up

in my club we are not so traditional. we teach traditional shotokan and kickboxing but our gi's can be the usual traditional white gi for kyu grades or a kickboxing plian white gi, then for dan grades the same kickboxing style gi but with black trims.

my 2nd dan grading was on the sunday of a weekend training course. so first you must attened all sessions on this course. The grading is this: 1) 5 heian kata 2) Kihon learnt to perform on the day 3) "Quickfire" un learnt ones 4 by each examinar. 4) Advanced kata how ever many the panal wants. 5) 1 Step kumite to involve takedowns on all counters. 6) Kata Bunkai of kata of your choice (3 Sequences) 7) Free gloved up sparring 2-3 people 2 mins each person.

you cant beat learning them from an instructor though and its my strong belief that they shuld be in the garding syllabus espescially for balck belt gradings!!!!!!

in shotokan there are no jumping side kicks jumping back kicks or jumping hook kicks etc so how if you rely on just kata are you goin to learn them?

Many people will practise thses in Kata only. It's not uncommon, there are many many techniques that pepole don't include in their training other than Kata. Hiza Geri just happens to be one of them.why just in kata there are more jumping kicks that are not in kata!! so how would you learn them? in our club jump kicks are in the brown belt and above sylabus so u have to learn them!!

in shotokan there is jumping kicks and we do learn them at 3rd kyu level, some people dont do them in shotokan but why? they are shotokan techniques so why not learn them it makes no sense to me!!!

Bruce lee is my fav what a legend!!! i love way of the dragon but game of death would have ruled all had it been finished

he did do some of his fight scenes i think like the one in karate kid 2 against chozan and his buddys. i think it is gojo ryu cuz in karate kid 3 the kata is from gojo i think isnt it tensho kata?

im not sure when it is but it was in the daily mirror i think a couple days ago it looks quite good.
