what style does Jason study ? Interesting question. I recently did some more research on Statham, and it appears he's had a mixture of training, but in his words, he's "never achieved rank." He's pretty vague on his MA background in interviews, but it seems he has studied TKD. He was an Olympic diver in '92, so that is likely where he gets much of his athleticism. Respectfully, Sohan That's cool of Statham. Imagine that, a martial arts star that won't brag! I like him, too, and can't wait to see Crank. As for my favorites, Best of the Best 1 and 2 are good, 1 being better. The Last Dragon and Only the Strong both have special places in my heart, as well. Enter the Dragon is probably my all time favorite, though.

This is all good info. I often wondered why he wasn't seen much after Enter the Dragon. Maybe he'll bring one of his schools to my hometown! -
Information about Advanced Hyungs

General Choi's encyclopedia doesn't offer much information on the meaning or translation of the forms, just the layout and moves. There may be a book on the subject; I'll be the guinea pig, and just buy the book! (like I need an excuse to buy more books!) -
Good luck! Advise on sparring would be easier to give if you give us some information on your sparring system. But, in general, don't go crazy and wear yourself out. You will probably be nervous, so do some breathing and try to relax yourself. Try to feel out your opponent by doing some stomps, or by throwing a kick or strike, and remembering how they react to it. This info will help you to set them up and counter their attacks. Hope this helps!

I don't think flipping on the street is a wise idea.

Hit "upcoming event's" the flyers there with pricing. Looks like $165 a day, or 3 day seminar $395 without accomidations $585 with accomidations. I used to be stationed very close to there, that resort is really nice, or used to be. WOW!!! Lots of money! Can't do it, even if it was close!

That I would pay to see You know, one of the female black belts in my class set me up like that once. She said: "I think you should toss Mr. Walker around for the demo, doing self defense!" What's the deal? Nobody likes me!!!! Just kidding! it's so cool to toss a 200lbs guy , boooooomb...............booooooooomb I'm 245...... -
Wow, that would be one heck of an opportunity! Didn't see a price, though. What do you suppose the tag is on it??

This is good practice! I was doing a knee, then kick drill in our children's kicking class a couple of weeks ago. It is good to build speed for the chamber, and getting the feel for kneeing a target.

It is kind of funny that you mention this, because kara-te used to mean China Hand, until the Japanese changed the idiogram(??) to make it mean empty hand, to try to break its ties to China, and make it Japan's own, which is kind of what TKD has done with Shotokan! Wow, the soap opera of the martial arts! We took that one full circle, didn't we?

Hello there, and welcome to KF!

I would say to stick it out for a while longer, and see how things go. If you have an injury, and he asks for you to do something you can't, remind him. It isn't worth getting injured further. If after a few months things don't change, and you still feel like you do, then you may look at moving on. But if you really want to stick with that style, then you can learn a valuable lesson of perserverance here. Good luck with the training! I hope it works out for you. And welcome to the forums!

Wow, that is cool! I think he is around 60! He is still an animal, too.

That is an interesting one, P.A.L. It would teach you to move, that is for sure.

The True Martial Artist
bushido_man96 replied to PlasmaShock's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I feel the arguements of chivalry and things like it are very ambiguous. Everyone has a different definition of honor and chivalry. Let's look at it this way. Let's say that I come home from work, to find my whole family has been murdered. I know, its extreme, but hear me out. Now, lets say I find the culprit in my backyard, knocked out cold because he tripped on something, and slammed his head on the sidewalk. Now, he, starts to come around, and is trying to run away. I have two choices: detain and capture so I can watch the courts deal with him (oh, yea....he would live in county lockup for another 2 years before going to trial), or, I can..........well, lets just say, that, um..........well, you all can put two and two together, I think. We know that the honarable thing to do is let justice run its course. But personally, knowing that my family is lying dead in my house, I am not going to be in favor of option 1. Now, what kind of person does this make me? A warrior? A martial artist? Homicidal? Vengeful? A poor example? I don't know. What do you think, and what would you do? -

Gee, thanks! -
I view fighting as from the long range, ie, kicking, close range as in punching, and then grappling.

I agree with you. I kind of feel the same way about those who use running a certain distance as well. I agree too, but instructor always right so ask no questions Yeah!
